    Note on the Philadelphia A's-Detroit Tigers game: Ty Cobb had been suspended for going into the stands in Philadelphia the day before and beating up a fan who had been heckling him (I believe the gentleman was handicapped). The Tigers went on strike to defend him, and Detroit management fielded a team of scrubs/scabs to play the Athletics that day.

  • @Rockhound6165
    @Rockhound6165 5 лет назад +13

    To be fair to the Tigers pitcher Allen Travers who gave up all 24 runs in the loss, the entire Tigers team went on strike to protest Ty Cobb's suspension for beating up a fan so Tigers management literally went to the streets to field a team. Travers was found standing on a street corner in Philadelphia and although he never pitched a game in his life, was tabbed to pitch that day so keeping all of that in mind, he really didn't do that badly. Also, missing from this list, was the Phillies shelling the Mets 26-7 in 1985, a game where Von Hays hit 2 home runs in the first inning including a grand slam.

    • @MarkRosa
      @MarkRosa 5 лет назад

      Not quite "on a street corner"; Travers and most of the Tigers were local amateurs, with several coaches reactivating themselves for the day. Still, it's one of baseball history's most fascinating stories and well worth mentioning and reading about.

    • @Rockhound6165
      @Rockhound6165 5 лет назад +2

      @@MarkRosa But Travers was literally found on a street corner. From Wikipedia: "Jennings found Allan Travers on a city street corner. The 20-year-old junior from Philadelphia's St. Joseph's College was a violinist in the student orchestra, but had never pitched a game in his life. He had even been unable to make the school's varsity baseball team. Instead, Travers served as the team's assistant manager, preparing game summaries for the school annual." So he wasn't even on a team and had never pitched before and only did so because it paid more.

    I remember the Red Sox losing 22-1 to the Yankees back when I was 6, and I was shocked that a team could even score 20 runs in a game. I had no idea they had a worse loss than that.

    I was at a game similar to the one you mentioned for Nats v Mets back in 2017, it even included the Nats and Mets. While I don't remember much of the game since I spent about three inning waiting in line for ice cream, I do remember that Rendon had six rbi's, Noah Syndergaard got hurt which ruined a promising start for New York, and the Mets got shlacked 23-5.

    According to an SB Nation video, the guy that gave up the 24 runs was a college guy that was paid to play in the game after the rest of the Tigers protested a suspension of Ty Cobb.

    -Last year attended what was recorded as Dodger's worst shutout in Dodger Stadium history: 14-0 loss by Houston Astros. 5 years earlier I was at a different Dodger Stadium game where final score was SF 19-LA 3. I think one more and I'mm banned from Dodger Stadium
    -My dad's worst viewership was at Arlington in 1999, Rangers opened up early 3-0 but final score was NYY 25-TEX 3. Most absurd part: The Yankee batters hit a total of 0 home runs.

    For how often you bagged on Coors, it only showed up twice, and the Rockies only delivered one of their two beatdowns in their illustrious park. Yes, it's an offensive park but it's becoming a really tired excuse. Several parks give up more homeruns every year (Houston, New York, Cincinnati, Arizona in particularly) and lead in other categories too. Coors leads consistently in one offensive category: singles.

    Reminds me of when I used to play RBI Baseball on the NES. I would sometimes put the difficulty on "easy" just to see how many runs I could score. I cant remember if it was the 1990 AL all star team I used or the 1987 Detroit Tigers, but I racked up some 52 points in 9 innings lol Good times.

    I was at that Mets game in Washington with my dad, who was down to visit me. We never leave baseball games before they're over. This one we left in the fifth inning, when the Nats had put up a touchdown and then four straight field goals for a score of 19-0. Being a Mets fan is often painful, and that was probably my most painful moment as a Mets fan.

    My Dad and I were present at the 'Stick when the 'Gints walloped the Cards (revenge for that '87 NLCS defeat), 21-2. Not only did Spier, finishing his career where he started, with SF, hit for the cycle, but a journeyman named Ernest Riles hit the franchise's 10,000 home run. The current overall tally now stands at 13,613, in no small part thanks to Barry Bonds, and almost 92K runs scored. Hoping to at least see 100K runs (since I'm 60, I think I've got a good chance, but given their lack of power since Bonds left, maybe I'll see 15K or even 16K, but 20,000, not too sure, unless they break out the artillery somehow.
