NICE!! I had my first open cockpit airplane ride in a 1929 Stearman C3R. My father and I were at a fly-in in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. After wiping down our Staggerwing, I saw this beautiful airplane covered with oil. I asked my dad if he thought I could go clean that airplane, my dad said go ask him.
The pilot Jack Greiner, a well-known antique aircraft had restored not just a Stearman, but serial number one. The first Stearman built! After several hours of cleaning, I received my reward, an hour flight in a very historic, rare airplane. NC8828 Will always have a special place in my heart! Pretty cool for a 11 year old kid! Great segment Bruce!

Now THAT is a great story Eloso! Did you do a loop and a roll too? Haha....The Staggerwing is just a beautiful airplane also. Bruce

@@CHOPPERGUYHD No loops or rolls but lots of fly-bys and a couple of wing overs. After all these years, I've been blessed to fly or fly in many types of aircraft. A seaplane, a skiplane in New Zealand, a Learjet and countless open cockpit airplane rides. Miss flying the fix wing stuff but still enjoy flying hot air balloons. The not so new love of my life. Now 35+ years! Your stories convey your love of aviation and appreciate you bringing them to us. Thanks!!

Thanks to a good friend of my Dad I got to fly in a Stearman "Sweet Pea" in Colorado. I've done a LOT of things in my life, but that rates as one of the COOLEST experiences of my life. Thanks to the Owner/Pilot for that day, I LOVED IT.

Nothing like the open air cockpit and the sound of that round engine Ryan, right? Flying Joe's Stearman rates up there with the coolest things I've done too. The plane was great and taking lessons from Joe, a Vietnam Huey Vet, well... it doesn't get much better than that. Throw in our many year friendship and that tops everything.

Three sounds it he aviation world that I love, round engines, the huey helicopter, and an A-10 Warthog engine mixed with the cannon.

Stock Stearmans fly lousy aerobatics. Low power and heavy stick pressures. Tons of wind in the cockpit. The 4-aileron Stearman with the 450 Pratt & Whitney does Ok. I used to fly formation often with a bunch of Stearman guys in my Pitts Special S1S. It was hard to fly that slow with those guys.
