Demi C Thar Black man is cashing in on you and doesn’t even want to represent you. It’s funny how all of his shows have mixed people on it yet the family with the Black mother on their is called mixedish.
Your thoughts Not mine Makes sense mixed people like to pick and choose when they want to be called Black. Let them vy for the attention of Black men or respond to a casting for a music video or tv show and watch how quick they pull rank over an actual Black and call themselves mixed. I’m going to keep talking because we need more than one narrative out there you never know who is watching or listening.
Black Goddess You say biracial people like to pick and choose when to be black but black people like to pick and choose which biracial person they accept as black.
Nikki W That’s a half truth Black men see you as Black because they want sexual access to you and they don’t like having their desirability undermined by White men that’s why they always consider biracial men mixed and not Black but the women are Black to them. Black women who consider you Black only do so because they are Black male identify they seek the approval of men who don’t reciprocate blind loyalty to them ( another topic for another day) so they accept you as Black thinking your promotion/desirability will trickle down to them. It doesn’t, what happens is your image gets to elevated to the top while there racially unambiguous images gets pushed to the bottom and they get to represent Black women. I will never support my own erasure. Sorry not sorry
Your thoughts Not mine I am not mixed, let’s get that fact straight first of all lol. How about you respect other people’s experiences and realize blacks people aren’t a monolith? I don’t relate to his experience but I respect it. Get with it or get lost, your comment was highly irrelevant.
Ladies and gentlemen we are witnessing new level of black greatness. Our life stories should told by us. “White gaze” “because of slavery” both reality . I couldn’t relate to Cosby show either growing up but this show is a sign of the times or what it could be. Success is success big or small.
Unknown Ticket Hmmm All i see is a black family that got rich as a result got some bougie kids. I’d take that any day of the week. Lighten up it has some jewels. Pressure from the man got us scared to live.
The disagreements between him and his wife, I felt that. That was real to me sometimes spouses don’t see the hard work that each other do especially when there are kids.
hustlehardcampaign right! When I saw all the hate online mostly from black women ahha... I was like thank God I watched it before all the hate came because I legit laughed out loud at most episodes. My friend saw all the hate first and decided right away that she didn’t like the show. I’m like cancel the noise and give it a legit chance
I’m entertained by the show because I see it for what it is, a parody. I can say it is a parody of rich Black people and Black people in general issues. I didn’t come in with any preconceived ideas and I certainly will not perpetuate the problems of colorism.
@@brendajameson5093 It's only colorism when dark skinned people aren't somehow thrust front and center. His family is light skinned. I just don't get the "backlash". I'm so tired of, "not black enough". We are the only race that jumps to tear each other down, in an INSTANT, while wondering, "Why can't we get ahead?". Many of us do not even understand who we are or how varied we are in our race. If there is black in you & you proudly acknowledge it...you are BLACK. We do not alllllll come from the same black life experience but, I promise you, when another race sees you...YOU ARE BLACK.
I agree. One of the unfortunate fall out of slavery is that we are all MIXED! So the issue of being "black" becomes if you are a person of some African descent who identifies as "black". If that is not the working construct, then we are back to the paper bag test of who is too light and who is too dark.
My parents are Colombian. We own the only Colombian restaurant within 100 miles in Pennsylvania. Colombians come in so happy to have their culture nearby, waiters like them, food they knew, music they love, things they can't get anywhere else in PA. YET those same Colombians find SOOO MANYYY THINGS TO COMPLAIN ABOUT. We serve them like any customer and just hope they don't come back. We don't give a fuck. We got white people, dominicans, Puerto ricans, costa ricans, and everyone else enjoying our COLOMBIAN food and service. So fuck the haters, we still get paid. So it's okay black people don't like his show. KENYA STILL GETTING PAIIDDDDDDDD
💯... also! Other races will not respect an be truthful to the content. Funny is funny, an the truth is the truth! When we speak on the reality of life we live. It make others uncomfortable! The fact of the matter is we, I/E us. The American colored - an I mean Nigga have influenced the world! An thats my opinion!
I loved Blackaf, me and my husband couldn’t Stop laughing. I loved how you talked about how Black people do what they do. My husband is white and we both enjoyed the show. I loved your acting it was so authentic.
The naysayers claim that we as blacks are not a monolith but they want one show to represent all of us. I am a 1st Gen African American. I do not know about the ghetto or the rich folks. If I were to write a show it would be highly influenced by my personal experience. This show was entertaining AF. I laughed so hard and binged it in one setting.🤣🤣🤣👍👍👍
totosheyi I believe your statement to be true. But don’t get offended when the black community (a majority of people whom don’t share your experiences) can’t relate to your show or are offended by the constant whitewashing of our culture on tv.
TI, love you bruh! I'm nearly 60 and I appreciate all that you do especially this interview with Kenya Barris. BTW, Rashida KILLED HER ROLE!!!! She definitely deserves an Emmy/Oscor nod -- Best Supporting Actress.
Everyone should see it! I binged the show. It was good to me. Didn't know much about it. No recommendation through friends but I was out of entertaining shows at the moment. I loved it! I can see myself and my family and friends in them. My uncles were similar minus the many resources but it was relatable. Is it over the top somewhat for the average person, maybe. However, I have different classes of friends (different cultural backgrounds) and it has taught me that we don't have to relate to things that we're not familiar with, just be open to enjoying life. See things from different lenses. This show is funny and entertaining at best.
Kenya reached back in his bag and gave us an actual representation of a wealthy black family, although some of us might not relate to that lifestyle, there definitely was some GEMS dropped. Black-ISH was whitewashed but that is probably the closest depiction of black wealth on Network TV, unapologetically. Question: Do you guys actually advise each other on what projects to work on & what projects to pass?
Man, this sht is facts. For some of black men who can move in different enviornements, sometimes I want gold bottoms, a chain. I want to wear dope sneakers and tees. And sometimes you wanna wanna be suited and booted in the office.
I really enjoyed BlackAF! Me and my brother were laughing our asses off watching that show. I understand that colorism is an issue and it would be great to have more dark skinned wives/mothers on black family TV shows. There is a valid conversation about black wives seeming to be lighter than the father or mixed. Nothing wrong with having that convo. This show and Blackish are about KENYA'S family and he did a great job with both shows imo. I'm not going to shit on this show. TWO things can be true. Most ppl dont seem to understand that.
BinkiBianca The show is loosely based off of the man’s life though, his wife is mixed. That’s an accurate representation of black life as we as a people are very diverse. Colorism is definitely an issue but so is pulling down our people when something doesn’t reach a certain level of “authenticity”. I loved the show

Everyone didn’t grow up the same way. Everyone isn’t so closed minded. My mom was dark skinned and so am I. Just because some ppl have those issues does not mean Everyone has to adjust to make others feel better!
Kenya Barris, one of a brilliant leader in my opinion, has genuinely gave the world an incite of what’s real in culture. Salute to T.I for his decision to choose Mr. Barris, but also for his growth in life. #KingsConvo
I really enjoyed Black AF and I really hope we get a few more seasons. 🤞🏾People must be ignorant to speak about the actress that played his wife. I thought it was clear that it was a reflection of his family and his wife who is biracial. It shows how biracial people have to “prove” how black they are just because they have lighter skin. I hope people get that.
Blackish WAS my favorite show now BlackAF is. Kenya is the goat, his dry sense of humor is hilarious his account of his family life is his truth and it’s so funny to watch
I loved it! It was funnyAF! I'm looking forward to more seasons. The casting was genius. I love and relate to Rashida's character as a woman and mom of mixed race. Again, it was so so funny.
I felt like BlackAF shows oppression doesn't always end with your tax bracket becoming higher (which many black people already know). With that said, there wasn't enough relation to the average black person to hold the title well. He grazed over many inconveniences we face without always properly touching base on it. Watching TI's family based shows gives a better feel to the black experience than the content on the show -IMO. A perfect title would've been STILL BLACK.. because the family dynamic shown is not enough like any of the families I know yet they are still .. ya know
I laughed a lot watching this show and I usually find regular comedy shows a little bit silly. This is a different kind of comedy. The first episode I wasn’t sold on it. I didn’t get it but I decided to keep watching. I’m glad I did, the show kept getting better and better. Really funny and educational. Thanks for the great show. I ended up loving Kenya, Rashida and the kids. Can’t wait for the second season!

Most that are complaining haven’t watched the show completely, vibrate low af which is why they can’t comprehend the shows content beyond the visual aspect, and suffer from severe PTSD. Like he said I don’t do ignorant. Those that complain about color within our own community and attempt to discredit someone’s blackness because they’re light skinned when at the end of the day we will ALL get shot for nothing without impunity most of time...this is why. No unity within our own community...there’s no community so we don’t have a community.
Nice show! TI never ceases to amaze me. And Kenya is another misunderstood genius. Black America needs to learn to celebrate our geniuses instead of always berating them.
Checked it out, couldn’t relate. Didn’t see my life or the life of many Blacks I know reflected. At this stage in my life wish fulfillment television isn’t what I’m looking for. More power to him for the Netflix deal and his overall success.
I had the same qualms at first but my lady says I act just like Kenya. If you pay close attention to how he is learning his deficiencies as a father (from working so hard) you can start to see that there is a lot of relatable moments. When you get over how wealthy they are (trust me I rolled my eyes too) you can see that the story itself about family is very relatable.
I think this is just a slice of the black experience, showcasing wealthy African Americans that do exist. We are not monolithic. For example, good times I liked that show but I didn’t personally grow up in the projects. I enjoyed fresh prince of bel air, but I have never even visited Beverly Hills. I love seeing different depictions and interpretations of our collective stories because we are such a diverse people. It’s nice to see the upper 1% of black people, which has never been showcased on network television. The black 1% is growing especially in entertainment, sports, business, and tech, so I think we will definitely see more varied experiences. If you watch dear white people this nicely depicts the diversity within the African American experience. We are lit AF!!!
Liked the show.. it’s from an affluent view.. to me it seems like it’s about a dad with rich nikka problems. Him and TI both got rich nikka problems so I get that part... when you boil it down; families all have those internal struggles that were displayed.
N.W.A. I don’t think we wanna be shown as broke, but we can’t identify with the ethical dilemma of keeping or selling a $75k necklace. Do you kinda see what I mean?

Phenomenal Interview! This is my first time watching a Kenya Barris interview and I'm so very inspired! I LOVE #BlackAF
I’m entertained by the show because I see it for what it is, a parody. I can say it is a parody of rich Black people and Black people in general issues. I didn’t come in with any preconceived ideas and I certainly will not perpetuate the problems of colorism.
Honestly are these real issues...come on
@@jamesbarber1103 issues are subjective.
The show perpetuates colorism. Kenya is clearly obsessed with color.
@@brendajameson5093 It's only colorism when dark skinned people aren't somehow thrust front and center. His family is light skinned. It would be an affront to me the same way if his kids all looked like Diane from Black-ish when they're light skinned in real life. Was Black Panther colorist? Plenty of countries in Africa have light skinned black people (i.e. Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea)...was their existence denied by not having a part of that fictitious country?
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 Either you're gaslighting or you don't understand the definition of colorism. Either way, nothing you said has anything to do with colorism or the problem with Kenya Barris' shows. I would advise you to watch the Grapevine's youtube video about this topic.

Black af is funny af. My type of sense of humor. I want the series twice already. Waiting for the next season.
We do not alllllll come from the same black life experience but, I promise you, when another race sees you...YOU ARE BLACK.
davinci barnette #facts simple and plain.
BlackAF was funny AF, Most ppl don't have sense of humor no more that's why they didn't like it.
💯... also! Other races will not respect an be truthful to the content. Funny is funny, an the truth is the truth! When we speak on the reality of life we live. It make others uncomfortable!

A perfect title would've been STILL BLACK.. because the family dynamic shown is not enough like any of the families I know yet they are still .. ya know

Nah let their WEAK complaints fall on deaf ears.
