The Bear is Mad... Harbor Freight's #1 Tool Salesman

  • This video is not a tool review and is in response toThe Bear saying I was committing fraud and that Harbor Freight is never in the wrong. Any time anyone says anything about Harbor Freight The Den of Tools is right there to save Harbor Freight. I am fed up with all of this extra RUclips drama over some ICON tools. I wanted to give my experience with tool testing from harbor freight and with the icon tools warranty, but the bear of course is mad. In my opinion Harbor Freight gives these tools to him only for him to sell tools. Like it or not it's just my opinion.

    Thanks for the honesty. As a non-mechanic and barely BIFY(break it, "try to" fix it Yourself), I like the availability of inexpensively tools @HF, however, lately I've been buying Tekton more since their quality is fairly good at affordable prices. Thanks again!

      The bear has dangled me some carrots to buy Tekton tools when I already had good use out of some Harbor Freight ones as a pro. I've bought some too, but mostly they sale things I have from other manufacturers so they're a consideration if I need something extra at the house instead of dragging it home from work.
      Actually like my Tekton 1/2" impact set so much I'd rather use at home and at work. Lol plus I seem to work on a ton of old Corollas and I need half inch tools times 2 a lot on the knuckles and what not.

    • @boosted2.4_sky
      @boosted2.4_sky 4 года назад +1

      Tekton has most of their tools made at the same place so a lot of the tools are very much the same.... but I have noticed Tekton's prices will be a little bit lower and if you go on their site and create an account you can actually get 10% off towards your next purchase it's actually a pretty good deal....Tekton is Harbor freight's biggest competitor....

    I mean, I like the bear’s channel. He’s got a lot of good content. Nothing against the man personally either. But I tell ya what. I watched his review of the craftsman 20v drill (not brushless) and your review of the same drill (and impact). Yours was favorable and his was unfavorable. But in his the test was to run some kind of water pump. And in yours it was to, you know, actually drill holes! Lol. So I don’t have to say which review I found more beneficial.

The Hercules had more power, more battery life, and I also like the simple brush drive instead of the electronically controlled brushless. The anti-kickback on the Bosh just messed with me on heavy-duty stuff like that. I use the 12v line inside for shelves & curtains and such. I bought 1k in icon tools with my tax return. Overall they have been great. I had 3 bad 1/2in ratchets (non flex head) that were bad out of the package (they would reverse themselves when ratcheted fast). They warrantied them no problem. They appeared to be pulled off the market since they aren’t online anymore (another recall?) That was the main reason I bought them, I figure I have a place close by to return them if broken. When it came to power tools I bought Milwaukee with tax money. There is no doubt it my mind they are superior to harbor freights line. Not only do they have more tools that use the same battery, but they are actually worth something if I upgrade. I bought the 1400ftlb Milwaukee impact for 350$, that came with two 5ah batteries. HFs came with one weaker battery for 75-100 or so less. Not worth it to me.
    As far as the bear goes, I am not really sure where his hostility comes from. Harbor freight makes some great tools at the price point they sell them at. They aren’t the best tools money can buy because they aren’t priced high enough to afford to have the best materials and engineering behind them. They will get the job done and the better stuff they sell is not bad. It’s not worth arguing they are as good or better than the best in the industry since they aren’t. I wish Hf would stop marketing themselves as the “snap on killer” and “Lincoln electric killer”. They aren’t either, and that marketing is lost on me. Just sell me some decent quality products and stand behind them, what a novel concept that has literally been gone from this country for a long time.

    • @Nphen

      I got my 20v Hercules drill-battery-charger combo for $80 and snagged a 5ah battery for $40 before the price went up. The 2.5ah battery is fine for normal work and switching between tools. I got the 20v impact; tool-only, for $45. Got the 12v drill, screwdriver, and impact, each with battery for about $40 each on clearance (they charge on the 20v charger I already have). So it's quite a bit cheaper to get started with than Milwaukee. I am definitely upset at the lack of new tools in the Hercules line, though. Milwaukee wins there, hands down. And my batteries aren't compatible with the Bauer line. HF could have gotten me buying more tools if their batteries were cross-compatible!

    One of the reasons I watch you is because you tell it as you see it. I don't want a tool review where the person is swaying his opinion based on a relationship with a company. Keep up the good work. I don't mind people working for a company, but be honest when you see short comings or at least make it clear you work for the company and are pointing out the good side of the tools. That would let people know it is more about sales rather than honest review.

    dude do me a favor? do a video on the best complete mech set from lowes, home depot, harbor freight, for quality, longevity, and ease of warranty. then which brands to buy for pliers. impact sockets. power tools like drills, saw, etc. air tools. are boxes like icon worth it? any other brands like icon that feels like SO, MATCO, etc bigger name brand boxes?
    have a friend whos wife has snap on box new, but her sockets are hf pros as were her ratchets, she just got icon sockets. ratchets. can you suggest another brand with prem feeling and hard use like snap on at icon prices? or stuff thatll just last? forget fighting with other yt ppl. make new friends and associates. do group reviews. should one get us general box? if stay in place but use a cart to move stuff around a vehicle, can someone use say a us general big chest, then a snap on toolcart for more often used tools? i like your content and honesty, if hf doesnt have quality products appreciate review on what is and isnt.
    will prob get a snap on box myself soon, and kobalt/husky tools for most, maybe some more pitty pro? was thinking of getting icon, but i guess us general in green to match my gym equipment is a better deal! so far i love the ratchets from icon, im worried though they wont be around. im sure their reg pitty brand will be. but im thinking of what to grab as lowes does craftsman now. just dont like laser labeling on sockets and wrenches. eh. but anyways hope youre doing well and continue to do so!

      A tool box is that - just a box. Don't waste your money on Snap-On. Icon is more than enough. Professional mechanics like Justin Dow even use US General boxes at their shop jobs. Look around for mods to the US General shop carts. If you're looking for a good brand of tools that's not HF, look at Tekton or Gearwrench.

    I watch both channels, along with Justin Dow and a little Justin Sturgill, and enjoy all of them. As a professional, I find all videos helpful because I like to see different opinions on different items. I think you have good advice for professionals and the bear has good advice if it involves at home or tools not used much. HF has some good stuff that I got because I don’t need top of the line, while others I will pay top dollar for. I use Knipex cutters, that will never change. For other pliers, I found the Doyles to be very nice and cheap. I enjoy both channels and will continue watching both for varied opinions, unless I find something that makes me lose faith in one of you. Either way, keep doing your thing brotha. We love your, “I don’t give a f***,” attitude when it comes to tool reviews.

    Milwaukee is definitely better than Hercules. But the Hercules is cheaper. I decided to buy into the Hercules line right before they pulled the switcheroo and cranked up the battery prices. If a big 5 amp hour battery was still under 40 bucks Hercules would be a good deal. But it's just not anymore.

    Your ICON videos, helps.. For every review from every creator, the more the better an if we look theirs tons of materal on Y.T., for a item, having more helps everyone.
    Brian brother.. Dont let anyone get to you like this.. Im glad you got this off your chest... but just stay focused, "you got this", just because someone tried callin you out, your the better man because you stood your ground an told your side of things.. We all knew youd end up gettin some back lash for stating facts of the tools an the company an their Warranty.. Just dont let others make you stop doin what your good at or sharing your opinion, if you get chances to get more free tools, kool & you should continue but be smart an do what you do an dont worry abought others, you know as well as of the rest of us, this stuff is just a reaction to what you needed to say an pointing out facts !
    Also its not fraud if your not an employee of the company an you have a tool that was free an it breaks/damaged an you return it to get a replacement (even if that was the case but its not !!), it shouldnt matter., (fact) tool trucks give away tools, when you buy the primary tools.. to have a set, they wont exclude the warrantys to the set, just because you bought the primary tool or another set that was free !

    The guy literally sat behind a desk before youtube. How many times has he stepped on a tool truck or dealt with on truck warranties. I mean can you blame the guy for protecting his pay check. Seriously how did he become a tool authority. He reminds me of a fucking Kirby vacuum salesman, offers some free bull shit to get in the door then offers a piece of shit no one needs. How can you trust someone who promotes 2 brands basically. Kobalt and harborfreight . Never been in an of the trades at all yet people listen to him. We can all read manuals to check out specs but we watch these vids to actually see the tools in use by people who actually use tools daily. If someone showed up to my jobsite rocking hazardous fart tools I would tell them to pack there shit and bounce. Stay in your lane. Eff em all Brian

    • @erikc3936
      @erikc3936 4 года назад

      It's funny you would bounce someone because of the tools they own. If it gets the job done on time who cares what brand they are. Being in the trades myself both construction and automotive. I have had my stuff stolen many times. Yes they are insured and replaced. But who wants that hassle? After a few claims rates go up and companies get suspicious. After the last time my truck was broken into on the job site. I was fed up, so I went to Harbor Frieght and Lowes to replaced my stolen power tools and hand tools. Yes you get what you pay for. But both of these brands make quality products and junk as well. Just like all the big brands do. Since replacing them with these brands. I still get the job done in the same amount of time and they don't get stolen either. Tools are like blue jeans everybody makes them. Some better than others. Try them out and buy what fits and feels the best to you. I have never had any issue with warranty replacement with either line. Tools don't make person. It's the person that knows how to use a tool. That get the job done on time and correctly.

    • @T6Tarek
      @T6Tarek 4 года назад

      @@erikc3936 getting your tools stolen and replacing with what you can is a different story, I too have been in both trades went to school to be a mechanic, got my certs for mechanical and auto body ( ase & I car). I went back to construction when I wanted my own business. In both fields every time someone has shown up or wreched with all the cheapest stuff they didn't care about their craft and it was all about a paycheck, on the job sites they were lazy hacks. That's my experience. Being the boss though I make a choice who's on my site and that's my choice to make. I'm not saying either if you had a few cheap tools you gone, but if you have been in trades for any length of time you should be past only having the cheapest stuff available, I'm sorry but I don't HF drills and impacts (construction impacts 1/4") hold a candle to rigid, makita, bosch, milwaukee, kobalt or others, shit even some porter cable was decent. Do I own cheap tool? Oh hell yeah one of my favorites for decks and fences are both my kobalt 7 1/4" sliding mitre saws. I'm working in a lot of multi million dollar homes where caulk and paint doesn't cut it.

    “Free tools” as with most free stuff comes with a price. Even though a company should learn from negative comments, most companies reactions are going to be mostly negative because they are trying to make money off of things they are having reviewed. Plus it’s a pride thing when people are insulted by an opinion that differs from their own.
    Hopefully HF will move forward and improve their offerings.

    I can't stand people who "think" they know what snap on will and will not warranty. It all depends on the franchise owner, buy tools from them and they will most likely go out out of their way to warranty it for you. You are HIS customer, not corporates. I've had so many pawnshop and yard sale tools warranted by my rep that I openly explained where they come from. People who have actuall jobs where they use their tools everyday and buy from Snap-on knows what's up.
