just a couple other things with land based fishing, Surf rods aren't always for distance, on some beaches you dont actually cast all that far but you want a long rod to keep your line high and out of the breakers. when casting in close the way the rig is set up doesn't matter all that much, but when you need to cast distance you idealy want your sinker to be below your bait, this helps with cast distance, personally when i mulloway fish here in SA i use pretty much the same rig you do except for the sinker line lenght, i have a shorter hook trace but a longer sinker trace, its either that or you use a hook/sinker set up where the hook can "clip" into the sinker and unclip once it hits the water. and another thing is burley, now burley is a cause of debate, it depends on what fisherman you talk to, some say it brings in all the rays and others say they wont fish without it, personally i use burley, firstly because i honestly dont mind catching rays they are a bit of fun and a hook up on a ray is in my opinion better then no hook up at all and secondly it brings the bait in which in turn bring in the bigger fish, and if you start catching that bait it gives you a source of fresh bait but also it causes some commotion in the water that the predators pick up on and decide they want to know whats going on. in my personal opinion land based fishing is more rewarding, it requires more time and effort and when you get those fish land based it just feels better, both my biggest gummy and snapper are from a boat (10.6kg for the snapper) but i honestly rate my biggest land based snapper (8.9kg) and gummy higher then those fish i got from the boat
Won’t give your spot up, but used to fish their many years ago, great spot. The walk along the fence gave it up even before the old pier. I even caught an EP, think that day we caught 10 different species.
Hey nev I have been land based for my whole life as I can’t afford a boat it would really help out if you could let me know where you were so I can try it
just to confirm in vic we can use 4 rods not 3. Maximum number permitted in marine waters Lines per person 4 with 2hooks , or 1 bait jig as per vfa.vic.gov.au/recreational-fishing/recreational-fishing-guide/fishing-equipment/marine-fishing-equipment another good vid though :)
