I gotta go with the Blue one, kinda reminds me of the artwork done on the old Handsaws!! Well done by the Mag Crew!!☻
Thanks RoadKing! I'm glad MagDaughter had time to paint them!
I’d describe the 3rd one as “cosmic”, it’s my favourite.
It does have an outer space vibe!
All the handles are beautiful. The paintings remind me of Vincent van Gogh paintings. Nice ideas to do all the sandings. You have a great day!
Thanks WM3!
The other day, in a video, I commented that I love your screwdriver handles. They're always perfect and so beautiful. Someone told me it was Bombay Mahogany gel stain. I spent an hour or so online looking for that but couldn't find it. So thanks very much for posting it today. Perfect timing. I see that it is, in fact, not gel stain and I have now already added it to my cart. Now if I can just do a good job with application like you do. Thanks for always showing the right way to do things.
Magdaughter's handles were great. I thought the one with the stars reminded me a bit of Edvard Munch. (we want another video with her commentary - she's a delight!)
The polyshades can be tricky to apply. I use a very soft (natural hair?) brush and very light coats. If I get a run, I use 320 otherwise I use 0000 steel wool between coats. It usually takes three coats.
@@357magdad I bought a pint of Old Masters Gel Stain in Dark Walnut. It should arrive tomorrow. But I have the polyshades in my shopping cart.
No way to pick a favorite handle. Bombay mahogany is always a winner. Magdaughter’s creativity showed through with a very unique take on each handle. Great work by both of you. Thanks for the additional work on those files. The vinegar gave some good results.
Thanks Robert!
Impossible to pick a favorite, they are all fantastic, plain and painted. I would say Mag Daughter has a real gift and talent. Put her on the payroll it might bring your great restorations to a new level.
MagDaughter is a very busy young lady! I'm glad she had time to help her old man out!
My favorite is the blue night sky! Your daughter did a great job! Thanks
Thanks Tony! I'm glad she had time to help!
Magdaughter hit it out of the park! While I really like the Bombay mahogany and the starry night version the green slime is my favorite! With her talent and sense of humor she really needs to start her own channel. Take care 😃👍🏼
Thanks David! MagDaughter is amazing!
I love that tear-drop shaped handle, very cool :-). Miss "Pokey-Thing" did a great job on the creative handle paint jobs. 👍
MagDaughter does nice work!
Very nice restoration on those handles, especially the cleanup on the burned handle. Extra points go to magdaughter for her artistic creativity.
Thanks Pat! I was happy MagDaughter had time to help!
Mag Daughter is a real artist (just like her dad) Congratulations to you both...I would like to work with tools to decorate this way
Thanks!
Wow! Magdauter did a great job on both!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Robert! I'm glad she had time to paint them for me!
Good job on restoring the brass ferrule I like the pointy black one and the other 2 are really cool looking I like the pointy one since it looks like my
x-acto blade handles that I taper to a point The two custom painted ones are awesome
I thought you'd dig the custom paint jobs!
Hey Magdad, beautiful work as always and I bet Jack is having a little chuckle at Magdaughter’s handles. They look so awesome and it takes an imaginative mind to think outside the box like like. I know I wouldn’t have thought of it. The blue one is my favourite. Nice music too sort of appropriate for the theme.
Cheers my friend, Stuart 🇦🇺
Thanks Stuart! I understand Jack had a bunch of grandchildren, so I bet he would appreciate MagDaughters efforts.
@@357magdad 👍👍👍
Wow those are great! Your daughter done a great job painting 🖌️🎨 those handles!!!!!
Thanks Mike! I'm glad she had time to do them!
They’re all good and while the pointy handle is unique I like the night sky the best. Mag daughter has some talent!
Thanks John! MagDaughter is very crafty!
Ditto!
Please nurture your daughter's fantastic imagination and artistic ability... I was deterred from it as a child by my parents.. they told me I'd never make a living as a artist .boy were they wrong.. not only has it fed me but it's the thing that has brought me the most joy ...thick or thin I've always found peace creating 😌
MagDaughter was born into a creative and crafty family!
Nice job on the handles and the files. Mag daughter did a great paint job.
Thanks Dale!
Your daughter is very creative...learning from mom/dad...both with great ideas...
MagDaughter is amazing!
You are a plethora of good ideas magdad! Love the little socket in the vice as a little dolly ! I've got a bunch of throw away sockets in a bucket I'm gonna try that !
I use sockets more for mandrels and shaping bucks than I do for loosening bolts!
Lmao 🤣
Hi Magdad!
Great Restorations of those handles, & Great Episode altogether!! 🙂
As for which one is MY favorite, I have to say that I'm having trouble choosing between your Mahogany one, & your daughter's "Night Sky" design! LOL!!
So I guess I'll have to call it a tie!! 😊
Btw; just before you ever came out and said it, in the video; "Night Sky" was the first words that came to my own mind, when I first saw that handle! 🙂
I see where another viewer called it a "Cosmic Design" & one could surely call it THAT, as well. Either way, it immediately catches one's eye, right off the bat!!
Take Care, & Best Regards As Always, & Highest Compliments & My Strongest Encouragement to "Magdaughter" to continue broadening her talents, on future projects like these! Fine Job, Dear!
Ron H.
Abilene, TX.
Thanks Ron! MagDaughter is a multi-talented young lady!
Two gold stars for mag daughter for her creativity on those two files, but as usual, my favorite is the Bombay mahogany. Mag daughters gonna have her own utube channel if she keeps that up. Nice job both of you. Thanks.
Thanks Joe!
Your daughter needs her own channel. She’s a master of color design. That’s all I can say.
Thanks! I'll let her know!
Wow, I love the finishes on all three handles. Your daughter is talented. Get that girl some canvases to paint on.
Thanks Gayle! MagDaughter is quite crafty!
Very impressive restoration. I thought that you would use that oxide stuff on the burned one. Mag daughter did a great job, what kind of paint? Bombay Mahogany still my favorite.
Thanks Larry! I sealed the wood with shellac and she painted them with acrylic. I then sealed the acrylic with matte clear.
Bombay Mahogany is my pick.
Removing the teeth from a worn triangle file and grinding/ tapering to a point is a great way to turn a file into a bearing scraper or scraper in general.
I've made some knifes from old files.
Hard to pick, but I like the blue handled one. I could hear the pride in your voice when you were talking about Magdaughter!
Thanks Chris!
Beautiful job on all 3! Jack would be so happy! Awesome stuff!
Thanks ScoutCrafter! I think Jack would approve!
Mag Daughter sure is talented. My favourite handle is the night sky.
Thanks! That's my favorite too!
You two did a great job on Jack's files. I did like the blue file also.
Thanks Larry!
I like the van Gogh looking file handle the best, but they all look awesome. In middle school shop class we would burn wood projects the stain them, there was always one meatball that would take a totch to the wet stain and cause a big fire 🤣🤣🤣. You and mag daughter do outstanding work. Cheers
Thanks Joe! I had considered charring that one handle.
Hi Magdad , They Came out great ! I Think Magdaughter Has Some Talent and Imagination . But I Like The One You Did the Best.
Thanks Wayne!
They all turned out awesome. I don’t know which is my favorite 🤔.
I use vinegar a lot but I add salt to it and it seems to work a little faster. Anyway, great stuff today Magdad! Thank You for sharing!
Thanks Jack!
Vinegar always did a good job on files for me. Mostly in just a day or so. Those are some fantastic handles now.
Thanks Alex! I was hoping the extra soak time would "sharpen" them a little.
Nice set of file handles Magdad. I think your daughter is very creative and talanted! I can see her being involved with more projects and maybe doing something for your auction. 👍🎥🇺🇸Roger
Thanks Roger! School is getting ready to start up again, so her free time is gonna be limited. Look for these file handles in the auction!
Love the segment...very enjoyable watching...Great job on those file handles...Nice...
Thanks Uncle Black!
To be a kid again and have that imagination!! Great work both of you!
Thanks Madstiles!
All 3 file handles turned out really nice!
Thanks Steve!
The blue handle is pretty cool looking. I would go for a more traditional look like yours or just use a light stain to show the wood.
Thanks Hal!
Magdaughter's starry handle is reminiscent of Van Gogh's Starry Night painting. Real talent there...
My favorite too for that reason. 👍
Luckily MagDaughter still has both ears!
@@357magdad 😂 … and all her marbles…
Personal I prefer the mahogany finished handle but Magdaughter did an excellent job on the other handles...very creative!
Thanks! Bombay Mahogany is hard to beat!
@@357magdad Agreed
They turned out beautiful . To nice to use. Magdaughters blue one is my favorite. Thanks
Thanks Glen!
I like the blue handle. Nice job Magdaughter. And Magdad of course
Thank you!
The files look great and Nag Daughter is a very good artist. She did fantastic job on them. THanks for sharing this.
Thanks John! MagDaughter is an amazing young woman!
I like all of them ! Great job! The green is really sharp !
Thanks Kris!
Night sky is my favorite, nicely done.
Thanks Terry!
Your daughter has an artistic gift.
MagDaughter is amazing!
Very well done Magdad! All three are great but my favorite is the mahogany handled one👍
Thanks YDOC! Bombay Mahogany is my favorite color!
What a nice family project. Well done
Thanks Bob!
Never let your children near your hobby. They always do it better than us. Great work as usual.
MagDaughter took an introductory shop class in high school last semester. Her projects turned out pretty good!
I concur with your choice (number 3). Your daughter is very talented.
Thanks Ian!
I love the coloured two handles. They are looking great. Well done, Mags daughter
Thank you!
Nice job on the handles, the blue MagDaughter one is my favourite. The Bombay Mahogany came out darker than normal with that handle. Looks good though, just not showing the colour as well as other handles.
Dave.
The first coat of the Bombay Mahogany really soaked in. I think that made it darker.
She did great! Definitely gave those handles some style points!
Thanks Danny!
Chuck seemed a little depressed today. Is he eating right? Getting plenty of exercise?
Chuck is doin' ok!
Maggaughter did an excellent job on those handles. I have to go with the traditional mahogany finish. The handle with the burn gave me an idea I hadnt thought of before. I kind of liked the spot on it and might try charing a pattern or highlight with it sometime :)
I had contemplated charring the whole handle.
Nice work MagDad and daughter.
Thanks Michael!
Awesome job MAG Team 👏 👌 liking the slime handle.
Thanks Richard!
Well I really like the blue sky mag daughter handle. She did a real nice job.
Thanks Frank!
I always enjoy your videos. Great job on the file handles, especially the painted ones by Magdaughter. I've used vinegar alot to clean up my rusty files I buy at garage sales. I am not sure if the files become sharper, but, after a good cleaning with vinegar and a wire brush, they sure work a heck of a lot better. Great work!
Thanks Paul! I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
Magdaughter has a great imagination a true tribute to her Magdad !
Thanks! She is an amazing young woman!
I like the traditional dark mahogany color.
Bombay Mahogany is tough to beat!
Great job on the handles. My favorite is the blue one.
Thanks James!
Great video and I like the blue great video and job 👍👍
Thanks Brian!
Hard to pick between those 3... but I'll go with the ones your daughter painted up.... I favor that slime one the best....how long in the baking soda..just a dunk in and out..or you let'em sit for a little bit.. I never know weather I have done that part right when using vinegar 😊...and now I want bbq sammich 🤠👍 good stuff sir!
They didn't stay in the baking soda water long, maybe a couple minutes. Then I rinsed then off and dried them and quickly got the WD-40 on them before they started to rust again!
@@357magdad thank ya!👍
All three look fantastic! The blue sky is my favorite. Would love to see how Magdaughter did ‘em. Dip? Thanks!
Thanks Stan! I think she just painted them with a brush.
Like the “Cosmic” handle…she did well!
Thanks John!
MD does great work!!!
Thanks Daniel!
Nicely done, Mag Daughter! You and Mag Dad make a good team.
Thanks Sue!
Shout-out to mag-daughter for a great job on the handles! (Tree version gets my vote😁)👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😎😎😎
Thanks Alan!
Looks nice but I'm not sure how much I like the idea of a pointy handle.......I'd have to try it but for some reason it doesn't look like it would feel right in my hand.
Truth be told, I almost never use file handles. None of them feel right.
That was a fun video. Did not expect those finishes but look really cool!
Thanks! MagDaughter had fun painting them!
I like the blue handle the best but they are all nice.
Thanks Thomas! That one is also my favorite!
You have a talented daughter. Very impressive. Curious why you used vinegar instead of your normal evaporust?
Thanks Gary! I was hoping the acidic vinegar would "sharpen" the files a little.
Nice job on all of the file handles. Like em all.
Thanks John!
Very fun to see! Congrats to both of you. Wait - all 3 of you - forgot Chuck!
Thanks! We all had fun!
Looks too good to work with, well done.😊
Thank you!
Really like it. Well done magdad
Thanks Ian!
The third file handle is classless...magdoughter is showing true artistic style...
Art...a window of the soul...🖖
Thanks Chuck!
Wow, your daughter is talented.
MagDaughter is very crafty!
Beautiful!
Thanks Shawna!
so nice !!! Galaxy design
Thank you!
My favorite is the 3rd one like Stary night feel to it the best way I found to clean old files was to sandblast them
Thanks Larry!
Whaaaaatttt!!!????? Those are on whole nuther level right there! 🔥🔥🔥💯💯😍
Thanks! We both had fun!
Magdaughter needs a raise!
Between the car and college I think she's covered.
Magdaughter did a really cool job.
Thanks Robert!
Picasso! 👍
I like them all. Once you get the rust off of a file, could you chemically "blue" it, or would that be bad...???
I think the WD-40 is enough to preserve it.
They do not make files like they used to. If you want sharpen your old ones first clean them as best as youn can, even down to scraping the crud from inbetween the individual teeth. Lots of work but worth it. Next do this outside with a respirator and rubber gloves. Lowes sells sulfuric acid, not phosphorrous. Mix that 10parts water 1 part acid drop files in for an hour maybe an hour and a half and be amazed at what happens. Rinse in baking solution blow dry and soak in lube of your choice me, I use wd-40. This is not a gimmic. It's messy, toxic somewhat dangerous but worth it. Just do a couple, you'll see.
Thanks for watching Walt! I've seen others try the strong acid on files. I can use vinegar in my basement shop. I've used a couple of the files, and I am happy with the results.
Can you tell me how to make dull files sharper?
I think the four day soak in vinegar sharpened them some.
@@357magdad I have some old ones that aren’t rust so I don’t think that will work on mine. Any suggestions?
@@gayle525 Vinegar is a weak acid and will remove a little bit of metal. This can help make the files sharper. Give it a try!
