The number one rule to follow when making a knife out of already tempered steel is not to get it too hot or you will lose that temper, a good guide to how hot you should get it is you should be able to hold it with a bare hand.

I started collecting knives at age 6 on up to my early twenties when I stopped collecting but still today have a reasonable number of knives and carried one ever day til this day. The saying “when all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail” is largely true. But when you have a knife and a flexible mind, many of the world’s practical problems can be overcome with a knife.

I did enjoy the video! What a cool and handy project. I did get that angle guide a while back using your link in another video you made. It's really nice to have and I appreciate you listing these items. I never would have known about that guide if it wasn't for you. Thanks for all these videos and all the information you provide too. I wonder if ScoutCrafter and will be trying this project out? 🤓

Very cool, Magdad! I've never seen one of those angle attachments for the 1 x 30. I've got to get one. I was wondering what went into your choice of 25 degrees for a knife. Most knives are ground shallower than that, I think. Looks great though!

Thanks for watching! I included an Amazon link for the angle guide in the description. I was trying to approximate the angle guide that came with my Smith's Tri-Hone.

Neat idea I use to make knives out of old mercer Simonds and nickelson files a new idea. Lowes sells made in usa werner scrapers and puddy knives for under 10 bucks out of high carbon steel. That's one cheap made in the usa knife take that Benchmade 😆.

Very similar to what I did people loved them everyone I made family members took them. I ran out of old rusty files 😆. Maybe do the same thing with new scrapers like I suggested werner has a made in the usa line like I said or exotic allex from Japan. Allex makes fantastic cheap scissors from Japan some of the utilty ones would make a fantastic knife if you took it apart.
