"What was supposed to be a time of celebration for Asna Tabassum - the University of Southern California’s 2024 valedictorian - has turned to disappointment after the university denied her the chance to give a speech at commencement over security concerns.
“Over the past several days, discussion relating to the selection of our valedictorian has taken on an alarming tenor,” USC Provost Andrew Guzman said in an online campus-wide letter. “The intensity of feelings, fueled by both social media and the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, has grown to include many voices outside of USC and has escalated to the point of creating substantial risks relating to security and disruption at commencement.”"

Since Asna Tabassum appears to be an observant Islamist-her hijab suggests this-she should probably start by using her freedom to speech to criticise Islam for considering kaafirs to be 2nd class human beings.

Yep - even today the IDF killed children in a playground. Sadly, that's the norm. But some people chose to blame Hamas for everything, not recognizing the long violent history of Israel. For example, the march of return in 2018. As peaceful as can be, but the IDF snipers still killed 100+ people - all peacefully marching. It goes on and on. That's why so many Jews actually oppose Zionism. Kudos to them for being real Jews, and recognizing that they should not kill, steal etc.

Congratulations USC. You have turned an unknown valedictorian whose speech would have been heard by a few thousand graduates and their parents into a martyr whose speech may eventually be heard or read by millions. Asna Tabassum may, hopefully, become a powerful spokesperson for the Palestinian people, and may find herself on numerous TV programs.

Asking Jewish students to listen to someone with her views at their own graduation is abhorrent! Equivalent to inviting someone from the Klan to speak at a ceremony where POC would be present. Posting hateful views about others disqualifies one from being honored by being selected as valedictorian. She disqualified herself.

    • @Music_Lover26
      @Music_Lover26 4 месяца назад

It is not a question of being "scared" or of what she would say. What she might say is NOT the issue. When you advocate for "the total abolishment" (an EXACT quote from the link she shared on her social media), of an ENTIRE COUNTRY you are advocating genocide. Actual genocide, not the one constantly being shouted at protests. Students from that country and from the faith and ethnicity of the majority of people of that country should not be forced to accept a person with such views as the valedictorian of their graduating class. To be named as valedictorian is a privilege and an honor, one that many students aspire to. Such an honor is based not only on grades but the overall achievements of the person who is selected. A student with such abhorrent views is not representative of most students and should not serve in the honored position of valedictorian. Should students of color be subjected to having a student espousing racist views as their valedictorian? There appears to be a lack of understanding of what being valedictorian means.

The irony is, Hebrews & Arabs are both Semites.
If they could only sort out their religious differences, agree to disagree, and learn how to get along with each other like grown-ups,
there wouldn't be so many human wildfires around. Maybe then they would have a chance of getting to know each other.
The USC faculty and the MSM are intellectual turnips in compare with Ansa and many other students in colleges everywhere.
I hope other bright young minds will get a chance to speak their peace when the time and place are right.
The weaponization of labels to prevent and subvert communication, to silence potential critics and philosophers (wisdom-lovers),
is a blight on humane progress, and leads to Cancel Culture, which does just that: it cancels culture. Flunk, USC.

@@Miranda3730 this is from a Valedictorian speech that made international headlines last year. You can search CUNY Valedictorian Speech 2023 and it will come up.
Also where TYT isn’t being clear here, is that the link her profile calls for the complete dismantling of Israel.
To ask ahead of time for a draft would be considered censorship, so why take the risk of allowing such a radical view to be blasted?

You advocate for the abolition of a country and people supportive of that country don't want to hear it that is NOT racism! It is common sense! I am American and do not want to hear someone advocating for the abolition of my country at a ceremony of any kind or anywhere. Being chosen a valedictorian is an honor, not a right. She forfeited that honor when she dishonored herself and fellow students by posting a link on social media calling for abolishing a nation. A nation that is an ally of the United states, the country in which she attends school. A Jewish nation loved by and supported by fellow students who are Jewish.

And I guess now we should investigate everyone who is chosen to give a " Valedictorian " speech.

@@briendoyle3823 What she would have said in her speech is irrelevant. Anyone who is chosen as valedictorian is carefully vetted. It appears USC's initial vetting in this instance was not thorough. When someone literally advocates for the "abolishment" of the Jewish state that is a genocidal statement and position. Therefore, the character of someone holding such views is not the character that is desired for the honor of being chosen as valedictorian. And whose position on the podium as valedictorian of the ENTIRE graduating class would be extremely offensive and traumatizing to those students and parents whose nation they are demanding be "abolished". That position is the same as that of the t*r tori$ts who are at war with an ally of the United States. A group declared to be t*r rori$ts by the United States government. This is an American university. A private institution that has the right to decide the person they feel is most suited to be valedictorian. A student who is a positive example to all students by virtue of their achievements. A well-rounded person. This person's academic achievements are negated by the vile nature of some of her views.
