    After watching your how to assemble a detolf video I had to come here and see what your collection looks like. It's stunning. The figures a lit so well, the mirror behind does exactly what you claimed and helps show off the rear of the figures, and it's all so pretty. Superb. You must be rightfully proud of what you've achieved. And can I just add how good your video editing was with the pop up dialogue boxes explaining each figure with a bit of extra info there too (like how you had nightmares about the creepy lolita staring at you!). Pure quality.

    I really like how you place the figures on the manga shelf.
    Pretty tastefully done and doesn’t look like a clutter.

    All these in 18 months? Someone dried out their savings account :)
    But seriously, cool tour video! Many collectors are too lazy with their videos showcasing their collection.
    Your's was fast, clean and the pop ups with info was a nice touch and useful for viewers.

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  2 года назад +2

      Thanks! As for drying out my savings, the pandemic really cancelled a lot of things, like eating out (including lunch), trips, and just recreational activities. So, that really helped out a lot. But eventually, the collecting addiction takes over once you get started, so, you can see that became a problem.
      Eventually not having enough space will limit my future collecting (I hope). I don't want to buy figures just to keep them in a box in my closet, and I don't want to get rid of any either... so I'm running into a dilemma I think most collector's face.

    Nice collection. But I expected more figures from a $16000 collection since I've spent only $13000 and probably have double the scaled figures including 1/4. Did you buy them at PO Price or Aftermarket price I suggest going for PO now since after market prices are scary, you'll get more figures that way

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  2 года назад

      Actually the $16000 is the figures and manga combined. And the manga is currently worth more than my figures. I think the figures themselves came to around $7000 give or take. Still a lot of money when I take a step back and look at it all. You must have a pretty impressive collection though, I feel like I might be a few years away from catching up to you.

      I totally get that, even I am getting to the point where I'm like "I really want this figure... but I shouldn't". To answer the work question, I work in software engineering. But, I have to say that with the pandemic, it really cut a lot of my spending and really made a lot of this possible.

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  2 года назад +1

      These are Ikea Hemnes shelves. And I just used Govee LED strips and taped them on the inside of the book shelves. The corners protrude like 1 cm into the shelf space which hides the LED strips from view (if that makes any sense).

    Brother I'm about a year into figure collecting now and I have a decent collection as of today. I was just wondering how do you handle bringing home girls who aren't into anime?

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  2 года назад +4

      This is such a great question! When I first dove off the deep end with manga, I was already dating someone who already had more manga than myself. So, I felt more empowered to start collecting it, since it gave us an opportunity to read together or discuss thoughts on a story. A year after, when I dipped my toes in figure collecting, I never thought I was going to have as many figures as I do now. I was thinking 3-4 figures to stick on my shelves and I would stop. Well, that didn't happen. Lucky for me, my partner is Japanese, and anime figures are not out of the norm given her cultural background. Though I do talk a lot about this hobby with her, loop her in and get her thoughts on new figures I like, and just make sure she feels involved (note: she doesn’t collect or plan on collecting figures herself, it's not something she is interested in doing, but since I'm interested in it, she likes to get involved and help me out).
      I think this question also comes up with introducing your collection to friends and family. My collection was build through the 2.5 years of COVID, so now introducing friends back into my home, I do get a lot of surprised faces. But I think, people do gravitate towards confidence, and I am never ashamed of my collection, I'm actually proud of it. When people see my attitude, and their shock then turns to interest, where they will start pointing out characters they know, or try to guess the anime a character is from, or at best just tell me which figures they really like. Out of all my real life friends, I'm the only one who collects manga or figures (which is what prompted me to make the channel in the first place).
      I think the best way to approach dating someone new is to talk about your interests lightly, get a sense of how they feel around the topic, then slowly dive deeper into it without drowning them in it (unless they are totally on board). Just don't throw them off the deep end by bringing them to your place without them knowing you like collecting, it could be a lot to take in (regardless if it's manga, figures, or something completely different). Even if they are not into manga/figures, they can still show interest in it down the road, or at least support your interest. You and your partner don't need to be into the same hobbies.
      When it came to anime (in previous relationships), I would see if they are interested in watching a movie/show, I would pick something that is very easy to digest at first. Then see how they like it, and then slowly walk them to the deep end by introducing another show, and another. Moving from lighthearted to anime craziness.
      That being said, I have dated people in the past who absolutely hated anime with a passion. This was when I was younger, and I handled it horribly, where I hid my interests because at the time I was scared they wouldn't accept me, or the situation made me feel ashamed for liking what I like. Highly recommend not doing this. It really made me feel like I couldn't fully be me… and you only live once, so it's best not to live it with regrets… because that might bite you later down the road.
      So, out of all my rambling, the only word of advice I have in this situation is, introduce them slowly.

    You've got quite a few figures that arnt in cases, how do you keep dust off of them?

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  2 года назад +2

      Good question. Dust sucks doesn't it. Even the detolf top shelf still gets a small bit dust despite only 3mm gap at the top.
      First, I try to attack where the dust comes from, since I have carpet, a lot of the dust comes/lands there and gets kicked up. So I try to vacuum once a week, it always surprises me how much dust that gets sucked up each week. Second, I keep an air filter in my room (I moved it out while filming); it can catch a lot of the dust or pollen floating in the air. And lastly, I just dust my figures every month or so with a Tamiya model cleaning brush, it actually works really well at cleaning figures.

    What do u have holding the detolfs and where did u buy them,

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  2 года назад

      They are the top half of a IKEA LACK TV unit. I highly recommend not using them. They are only meant to support ~55 lb, and each detolf weights ~75. I had to put massive reinforcements under them to support the weight of 2 detolfs. I'll be moving at the end of this month and plan on replacing them with a better solution. I plan on sharing what I replace them with once I get my new room setup.

One of the best dev’s I work with did an unrelated art degree, then taught himself to code in his free time (starting with 2d game engines, then websites, then web applications, and now he’s full stack). Good luck with the transition, it’s an exciting direction to be traveling.

    How to get $16000 😂

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  2 года назад +1

      Well, growing up my family always told me I could sell a kidney, but since those are in limited supply, it's best not to. Anime has taught me that I could always summon a demon lord or a useless goddess and demand tribute, though anime has also taught me that it doesn't tend to work out for the protagonist. Getting Isekai'd is an option... but you'll probably end up with a harem and not $16000. This is a really hard question. :D
