      I think the AIO computers are disposables... parts are not replaceable or upgradeable, except the drives (HDD, SSD and/or ODD) and the RAM.

    I’ve just cloned and replaced a drive on my 2015 Dell laptop for an SSD and wow what a difference, old drive r/w 97/117 , new drive way up in 500 similar to Carey description. So easy with Acronis (thanks Carey!) the only difficulty I had was the ssd drive was slightly thinner than the original it took a few attempts to engage with the connector(was a slide in slot at the side of the laptop) so I would recommend this entirely. Thank you Carey!!

    Coincidentally I just did a similar upgrade for my neighbor! I replaced the Seagate 500g HD with a Samsung 1TB QVO 860. I used Samsung's software to clone it and it all went smoothly, not only speeding up their laptop, but doubling it's storage capacity. Oh, and I swapped out the 4g memory for 8g, which for Windows 10 is always a good thing. Now, if only there were a quick fix for the slow internet connection!

    Thanks for showing us the upgrade of the all-in-one PC. I always wondered how to open one of those. I have a neighbor that wants to upgrade her Dell all-in-one; now I know where to look for screws. I get squeamish trying to pry apart the back afraid of breaking the plastic panels.

    I have never cloned a hard drive. When customers bring me computers they only want data backed up and a fresh install of Windows

    • @DigiFootageFX
      @DigiFootageFX 4 года назад +2

      Yeah but sometimes people have a ton of apps or software that they use regularly, and a fresh install of windows means having to reinstall perhaps dozens of software packages, as well as configuring all of them again to be the way you had them, etc. It can take days in some cases to get a brand new install operational the way it was before. So a clone is much much easier and faster to do in those cases. The only time I'll do a fresh clean install is if there was something very wrong with the OS, or if the person actually didn't have a number of large software packages or data tied to those packages to begin with.

    I tried cloning the drive on one of these many years ago and it just would not boot from the SSD. Perhaps it was a bad drive? It physically recognized the drive in the bios but no matter what I did it would not boot. I’ll never know. :)

    • @ShamanKish

      How did you clone it? Did you use Acronis or some analogue disc dock?

      priority on boot? I did a clone and install on macbook pro, going from hdd to ssd and i did not have to do a single thing (slow af doing it via usb but 2 hours later it was done)

    Recently updated my Inspiron 27 7700 AIO with 11th gen I7, with a touch screen. built march 2021. It has 2 drives a C: NVMe 500GB and a D: 1TB 2.5 inch mechanical 5200 RPM drive. from a scratch and dent sale at the dell outlet website. the upgrade was the 1TB Mechanical to a 1TB 2.5-inch SSD. the upgrade went almost without a hitch. Dell has begun using Bitlocker to encrypt all drives and further mary them to the PC; if the drive is removed from the PC you will need a key to open it. True Image 2012 from Acronis did tell me there was an issue with the drive and would try cloning sector by sector; O presumed it was bad sectors caused by a drive head crash and ran chkdsk/f on the D: drive. Then re-ran the clone overnight (even though I got the same warning). True Image 2021 from Acronis did say it was successful; it was NOT! Research showed it was because Bitlocker was turned on and active; I did not realize Dell enabled it from the factory. For Acronis 2021 to work you must Disable or suspend encryption, but to be positive i got a good clone I turned Bitlocker off. You can enable it after the upgrade if you want. boots, shutdowns, reads and writes are lightning-fast worth the hassel
