After surviving an encounter with an enemy drone as in infantryman, I started researching about enemy cyber warfare and long story short I start classes tomorrow for IT cybersecurity degree!!
Also wanted to mention last month I passed my Sec+ exam and also AWS CP exam for good measure. Your videos provided a TON of motivation to study and pass both exams. Additionally, I signed up for your training this evening and I’m on the “waiting” list. Thank you!!
Hey Nicole, I just wanted to thank you for your service to our country and for the great videos! You inspire me and make learning cyber security exciting!
Glad I came across your channel Nicole. I got out of the Air Force in 2015. Got a bachelors in GIS (no job knows what that is expect ESRI) and now I want to go for cybersecurity. Subbed!
This is really a great video. I noticed a lot of ex military ( current reserves) going itno cyber security. Also some former LE or "policing inclinded civvies" going into Computer Forensics.
Great video, I ETS next year with a Cybersecurity degree and Net+ with hopes in getting sec+ soon. My current MOS doesn’t align with IT, would you suggest reclassing to 17c/25b to gain more experience or simply getting out and hoping I land a good job? TIA
Hey Nicole! Thanks for this great video! I signed up for your training to go deeper into Cyber Security. I want a GS 12/13 2210 job series federal job so bad!
When I left the military I got a Helpdesk job at a Supply Company. Was promoted to Cyber Security Analyst after 1 year making 45k a year. I've been out 5 years, and those numbers sound amazing to me. In doing so my security clearance expired, am I basically screwed out of getting any kind of federal contracting job that offers those kinds of salaries? What would be the best move for me? I feel like 45k is not great for someone with 11 years of experience in IT.
This is terrifying to hear as someone considering getting out next year. I'm an NCO making close to $100k in CA. There's no way I could survive off $45k.

Hi Nicole, Just curious when you were working inTurkey, was this with a defense contractor and did you need a security clearance and did you get uplift? I worked in Afghanistan , twice, and uplift made the salary almost double, than it would be in the states.
Please reply..I'm college pass out now..over 4 years when I was in college I studied complete CCNP LEVEL NETWORK & FIREWALS LIKE PALO ALTO , FORTIGATE , CHECKPOINT BUT WHEN I SEE THE INDUSTRY AFTER OUT MY COLLEGE THERE CLOUD WILL BE THE PROMINENT AND HIGH PAID.. NOW IM MOVE INTO AZURE SECURITY & AZURE ARCHITECT & MICROSOFT CYBER SECURITY CERTIFICATION...AZURE DEVOPS.. IS IT GOOD DECISION ? NOE IM completely SWITCH FROM NETWORK SECURITY INTO CLOUD SECURITY & AZURE CLOUD ARCHITECT.. IS THIS A GOOD DECISION ? WHAT ABOUT SALARY ?
I just want to point out some information that if you were an e-1 during your entire time in the military, you were the problem. After four years you should be at least an e-4. Lets also not forget about the other benefits.
Hey, I am currently in the military and pursuing a degree in data network and security. I am also trying to get my comptia cybersecurity cert. however, the military offer the 601 and I heard there’s a new version 701. Just wanted to get your insights if that would be the new requirement for working for the DOD.
I agree with you to appoint, but I will say I have seen multiple people Do an amazing job and their particular field and when they tried to move up, the company management told them they are too good to lose in that job so they promoted other people who did less to the job and the only way they moved up was by jumping to another job so I would say be careful at how you do your job to make sure that you don’t put yourself in the box. You’re too good to lose that specific spot because then you’ll never get promoted anyway.
This pretty much proves that I.T job titles often don't match up to the role and job duties you perform. Job titles in I.T are notorious for being ambiguous. That is why the so called Network and Sysadmins roles in weren't trying Network/Sysadmins roles but Help Desk roles with the admin tittle.
Hi I am a newbie to all of this and have just started my ISC2 beginner coursse. I would really appreciate if you advise me what route should I be taking if I want to target roles in infromation security audit or compliance. I am in third world country, and usd exchange rate is horrible here, so I am always looking for cheap and/or free courses.
Hey I saw your video regarding ADHD. I was curious how did you qualify to be listed in the Military with ADHD? I have ADHD myself and was told that I would be disqualified because it was considered a learning disability.
Nicole (or anybody), question I'm mid-age man that is looking to get into the Cyber Security industry, I'm retired military and I am a truck driver (go figure). But lets be serious, I really want to be a cyber security analyst but is it too late for me being that I'm already in my middle 50's? Please be honest everyone.
Not too late I would imagine. It will be hard from what I have heard but set time aside to get certs and start an entry level job. You can work your way up in a few years
Question for anyone who can answer, I’ve been seriously debating WGU for the cybersecurity degree but have absolutely 0 experience. I am coming from the veterinary field. Is it truly beginner friendly or am I just going to waste my time and money?
I did WGU cybersecurity with 0 experience and they do a really good job setting up the classes with enough info for both complete noobs and those with experience. It also helps that I found the info interesting. I haven't started applying to jobs yet tho, so I can't speak on the job search stuff.
Hi Nicole! I’m hoping if you can give me some advice. I am in help desk and have been for 4 years. Basically taking calls all day for log in issues, app issues, and doing tickets. I’m planning to go to WGU but stuck between cyber security and cloud computing. I am very interested in both and was wondering if you think I have a better chance at getting a cyber security or a cloud computing job with the experience I have? Also, I wanna get the ball rolling and start my career started ASAP so do you know which degree would be the fastest to get? Thank you in advance!
That is so dependent on what you want to do! If I would start over, I would go with cloud but because you already have IT experience maybe security. You don't need a degree to start your career maybe a little bit change in your messaging to recruiters/employers . Also, maybe figure out the specific job you want as " cloud and cybersecurity" are both very vague words
Great content and very informational! Thanks for your service and all the valuable information - I'm changing my career from being a graphic designer and this video is really encouraging! - You just gained one more subscriber!! No offense, but it's so adorable to hear you speak about a mercenary spirit and how you were through with it while both the thumbnail and title of your video scream otherwise. For one, I considered a career in IT/cybersecurity as I'm very analytical and even got certified. However, this field seems so dull and uninspiring that every relevant rejection I received from employers felt like a blessing. Honestly, I don't know what people see in this area other than money. I know that I probably won't see a six-figure income, like ever, but I feel slightly vindicated because my work directly impacts people's lives. And if you think about it, earning six figures is WAY too much for just one person. Would one pickle this money and take them to one's grave? I'm not saying that your path is wrong in any way, but I've been following your channel for quite a while because it touches on one of the biggest trends in the working world, yet I never heard your reasoning for pursuing this career other than it's trendy and pays well. I mean, you did mention somewhere that you personally enjoy art or traveling, if I'm not mistaken, which implies that you do have a soul. So, why cybersecurity then, if it's not out of a mercenary spirit?
@@nicoleenesse I did watch that video (this is where I picked up on your interests in art and travel), and I do find your approach to finding a career path reasonable. However, this new video totally undermines the ideas of following your feelings and no waste, as now you emphasize money/status (what if someone does enjoy doing an entry-level helpdesk job VS cybersecurity even if it pays less?) and question your previous choices by hypothesizing how you could have gotten there quicker, which implies that there was a waste on your path that you now regret. I'm fine with whatever philosophy you preach as long as you're consistent with it.

Which branch was that? I got into the Air Force with ADHD. But I wasn't on meds. I'm now joining the Army and it didnt bother them either.
Just don't mention it :)
