Cranberry date bars
Topping and crust
2c ap flour
1/2tea baking soda
2c oats
1/2c sugar
1/2c brown sugar
1c melted butter
Reserve 1 cup crust for topping
Bake pressed in 13x9 for 15 min at 350
1 12oz jar caramel sauce
1/3 c flour combine with caramel
12oz chopped dates
3/4 c pecans
1 c fresh cranberries
Spread over baked crust then top with remaining 1 cup crust
Bake 29 min at 350 and cool completely before cutting into bars
You need a couple of those heat generated fans for the top of your wood stoves. No electricity needed. They would help to move the heat forward during power outages.

Fellow Michigander here. Those winds were crazy. I am so thankful they stopped. The constant blowing was not only ridiculously cold, it was irritating. Prayers and blessings for a wonderful Christmas.

I would think management would protect their pic up employees by requesting people to drive up to the doorway….poor workers are probably frozen…..🥶
Try jalapeño bacon dip and homemade crackers or on homemade bread…..YUM
I made homemade noodles using eggs I froze when they were cheap. Having that with home canned chicken broth, jalapeño dip for lunch.
Roasting a ham with brown sugar glaze, scalloped potatoes from home canned taters, cheese biscuits , salad , buttered green beans and deviled eggs for dinner…and homemade caramel brownies…..invited my one daughter over for dinner but she declined😞……too tired she said…oh well I tried….
Just the sound the snow makes under your boot tells me how cold it is.
Being on a well was the hardest part of losing power on our farm.
We have generator hooked up to our well. Supplies power to barns and two houses.
The years when a daughter bakes with you are heaven.

We have a well for water and just this summer we finally got a hook up so we could run the well pump off the generator. Too many power outages without water! Probably one of the hardest things for me to deal with. So I am tickled that my husband got that figured out.

We do have one we would only use the gas to fire it up if it went to long.

After the 2020 Texas power outage “rolling blackouts” that didn’t roll for 4 days I feel your pain. Thankfully we had a gas barbecue pit to heat food and a fireplace for some heat in one room. But I have to tell you living near Houston we aren’t ready for freezing weather without power. Hurricanes with flooding rain we can handle as long as our house is high.
I totally get that. In AZ had we lost power though we would of prayed it was in winter.

I had laughed at “breezy” on my weather app earlier today as well. Somehow “breezy” doesn’t seem an appropriate description for below zero weather.
The cranberry date bars are very interesting. Although I like dates, cranberries and caramel, I would never have put them together. Kudos for your grandmother for even trying that combination. They look delicious. Thanks for sharing. Merry Christmas to you and your whole family.

They are sold out now, I tried to buy another one today but I will have to make it instead, I think your recipe is what I will use and just mix in some cream cheese. Some things I just use manual items, some things I use an electric, but have a manual item stored for power outage. One is none, two is one....
Such a great idea! Someone said what will you do with out a manual mixer if the power goes out. I said not make things I need a mixer for or do it by hand! It’s funny we forget most of these things are quite young and people have been doing things like cooking and baking for thousands of year.

By the golly, it is Christmas Eve, here in Maine, and it is 8 PM. I have enjoyed this vlogmas so much.
How long did the moose stay in your yard, beneath the tree? That would fascinate me so much. Back in 1990, I won the lottery for hunting Moose, here in Maine. I shot a cow, she was 966 pounds, considered to be a large moose, for a female. She was 6 years old., they could tell her age, by extracting a tooth. It filled my freezer, plus I was able to share moose meat with my 9 children and their families, and so many other people. I used a 30-06 rifle, with a scope. I do not enjoy killing animals, but it was food for us, not just the sport of killing or claiming a trophy. I chose to pick a female, as they do not have antlers, therefore no trophy. Anyway, I love moose, and really enjoy watching them. There are MANY, here in our state.
Your cranberry recipes look so delicious. The filling one, in the graham cracker crust, looks to be my favorite.
It is so quiet here, being Christmas Eve. My children are all home with their families, and to be truthful, its lonely. They have their own traditions now, things are different. But, I have many memories of when they were all young.

Thankfully our state power company didn’t turn our power off this week when our temperature was in the teens. They were in trouble in 2020 when people didn’t have power for up to 5 days.

Girl, it's 17 in my house. Just went to wash a load and found my pipes froze. I had the rest of the faucets dripping last night and they're good. We are in Alabama! lol We can see our breath. We live in a super old house, not in the best condition. So we have all the sweaters and socks on. And you know what?? If we lost power, for one, thank God it's not in the summer and number two.... I remember what it was like growing up in the 70's, boiling water on the fire for wash water, reading books for hours and WHAT??? HAVING THAT COFFEE!! I can do everything pretty much if the power goes out. Water is another story sadly... no river near LOLOL Glad you guys are practical and prepared. Keep that pot honey, I have one too. As long as I have my coffee and my books, I'm good! ~~~~ shhhhhh warm ahhhhh

We do we just don’t yearn it on unless it got bad. For a long time
You may want to get another blender for daily use a have the old one for grinding hot peppers and horseradish projects in because they have a way of not washing out with out leaving some flavor in/on surfaces.

We have adopted Aaron's grandmother's pumpkin pie to my granddaughter's recipe book. I am going to try the cranberry date bars when the stores open Monday. What kind of blender do you have. It looks like it works great. I don't want to spend 400.00 on a Vita mix blenders. I know I won't use it to make it worth the money. I am still shopping for one that is reasonable.
