Abortion no longer illegal in Colombia

The last years, we’ve seen that conservative forces gain ground, while women’s rights are reversed - in all parts of the world. In South America, Colombia is an exception.
The right to control and decide over your own body has been at the heart of the women’s rights movement. We call it sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR), which includes the right to have an abortion without being criminalized for it.
Colombian nurses, doctors, and activists - using a green scarf as their symbol - have for decades been on the frontline, fighting for the legalization of abortion. In February 2022, they won a great victory; Colombia’s Constitutional Court declared that abortion was no longer a crime.
