  • Our guest this week is the Conservative backbencher Jacob Rees-Mogg MP who will stop at nothing to achieve a hard Brexit.
    Taking a break from his daily routine of goading the government on their Brexit position, he chats to me about his early life and political ambitions, what he’ll do if he’s wrong on Brexit and whether the referendum was racist.

    When will Channel 4 get rid of Krishnan? He is a dreadful interviewer. Surely it can't be that hard to find someone much better.

    • @LabTech41
      @LabTech41 5 лет назад +13

      But you're under the assumption that the people running the channel WANT someone better. Virtually all modern media outlets at this level are owned and operated by like what, 5-6 companies? That means that a small conference room decides what the modern world sees and hears as the official record, and clearly these people are of the opinion that one brown man is just as good as another when the brown person's purpose is to act like a puppet to ask THEIR questions through his mouth.
      If you flip the script and ask yourself "is this guy doing a good job of trying to foist a corporate angle on the interview?", then you quickly come to realize that this guy's actually doing an excellent job; it's just the public's under the impression that his job's supposed to be trying to get at the truth, when often that's very much NOT the case.

      I've become a racist because of The Guardian, the BBC, and Channel 4. I've got nothing against a few blacks here and there, but when you see discrimination against whites in the BBC and other places, and when it has become clear the ultimate objective of the left is the genocide of the white race by miscegenation, perhaps being a racist is not such a bad thing. He's not a moron, he intuitively understands that Rees-Mogg speaks mostly from principles. One can infer Rees-Mogg's position on political questions by simply being aware of the literary history of the Wests political enlightenment.
      And that's trustworthy, in one sense of the word. The best newspaper in my country is a radical left-wing one, and I read it. It doesn't matter what their stance is, as long as I'm aware of it, and as long as they advertise and flaunt it, and as long as they're consistent in their principles.
      Of course there are exceptions, but most politicians these days don't actually stand on principle, they're populists of some sort, without a coherent, thought-out position backed up by vast bookshelves of information.

      What does ‘control of your own destiny’ mean in this context? We had a great trading partner in the EU, common laws (mostly written by English lawyers / experts) to guide a vast area of industry, safety standards, health standards, rights and benefits to all free citizens, it helped promote peace and the sharing of technology to enhance everyone’s lives. Of course it had its problems (what doesn’t), but it was a noble project. Countries can’t just stand on their own forever, we all need each other on this planet, we’re all humans striving to do better, we can do better. Why stick to the tribalism when it’s brought centuries of mistrust and war?

    • @MUSTASCH1O
      @MUSTASCH1O 3 года назад

      @@Elphin89 I the case of the EU, controlling your own destiny means giving control of our laws and standards to people we can vote for, i.e. parliament. We are less in control of our country's destiny if our laws are increasingly determined by people who do not represent us (EU Commission), and an EU Parliament that has ignored what democratic principles it has by passing laws that were voted against by member states (e.g. Lisbon treaty was passed despite votes against).
      Leaving the EU doesn't mean we can't work together with European nations. We don't have to be a political and monetary union to be allies. It's not all about little England tribalism; it's about protecting the power of our votes to affect the direction our country.

    • @Elphin89

      I no longer see why it is a better choice to give more power to a less representative institution (the EU) and try and reform that, when we can have more direct representation via the UK parliament and reform our own political system instead.

      Honest decent principled, and that is precisely why he would make a ghastly Prime Minister and would not be able to do it. He seems like a thoroughly decent chap although I have never met him, but would dearly like to. The interesting thing about him is that he has plenty of inner time, and never babbles. In the house is always courteous and good-natured - I don't think he is spiteful bone in his body. I just wish you will be a little more forthright about homosexuality and the slaughter of the unborn - would be a proper Conservative.

    Big supporter of JRM but the questions on immigration has given me doubts and showing me for the first time that he is the same as the rest of them, out of touch. Its not about economic migration for the majority of the british people its about the numbers of legal and illegal immigrants coming to britain not working then bringing their large famillies here and then reproducing and their kids having 12 kids and the complete takeover and strain that it puts on education services and NHS. Our heritage and way of life being changed to suit these people and the fact we are becoming the minority in our own country. That is why we voted brexit!

      Except for the fact that as the EU has shown that it has, on the whole, completely porous borders to those wishing to enter from outside & a large number of traitors inside facilitating this process.
      As such there is now little distinction between so called EU migration & non-EU migration; what matters to many is distinction between migration of Europeans & non Europeans in regards to long-term demographics.
      The migration of Europeans from the Eastern & Southern regions of Europe have (had) more immediate short term economic impact on the economy & job market but it is the cultural impact of immigration & the slow dispossession of the native peoples that is most objected to.

    I like JRM, but he is a bit sanguine about the prospects of British culture surviving if immigration is not drastically reduced.
    The British people do not want immigration to go up after Brexit, especially from majority muslim countries. A points system, where immigrants are vetted for their spoken English, qualifications and commitment to integration into British culture, is the desirable policy.
    "Anyone who holds a British passport is as British as I am."
    This is sadly untrue. There are many people in possession of a British passport who went to Syria to fight for ISIS and many more who believe that Sharia law should be the law of the land. You couldn't get more unBritish.

      tbone35453 The best form of vetting is free immigration without a welfare state. That is a situation in which each employer and each landlord can do her own vetting.
