In March 2020, just after the COVID nationwide lockdowns, I had to go into the office at Crystal City, VA to retrieve some important documents. I received speical permission and going into an area and building I had gone to numerous times with people and activity all around, I was the only person in sight. I encountered no other individuals or vehicles. As I left the office and building, I had a cold chill go down my spine thinking about this scene and movie.
One month after Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans, Hurricane Rita was predicted to hit Houston. I got my family to Dallas safely and as a Houston first responder I returned to ghost town of 7 million people. Weird 😊
One of my all time favorite movies. From Heston's solid as always performance to Ron Grainers rich and very memorable sound track to the action scenes and how the family was handled this movie made a big impression on me when I was younger. Out of the 3 versions of this movie Omega is the best!
A combination of factors, I think: What locations/actors/crews are available at particular times. I know that many movies often shot scenes that didn’t involve the stars long after they had actually finished their work. The job of a director is usually the hardest. FYI, the director of this movie, Boris Sagal, was killed during a shoot about 12 years later when he turned the wrong way after exiting a helicopter and walked into the tail rotor. 😮
Beyond awesome movie I was 4 year's old when I saw This iconic movie my grandfather & mother's work downtown LA back then my mother took me to see This!! Miss the 70s so much!
I work on Electricity Power Distribution as an engineer. In April 2020 I was going down the M6 motorway between Tebay and Kendal in Cumbria England in the early evening coming back from a substation. I saw 3 Articulated lorries (Semis) going North on the opposite carriageway between those two towns. In one straight portion of the Motorway which is a mile or so long I saw non other vehicles on either carriage way. On that lonely bit of the motorway I thought of the Omega Man, I am legend, 28days later, day of the triffids. I even thought of No Blade of Grass as the Custance families destination was meant to be within a few miles of the M6. Weird feeling.
This was what central London was like in the first weeks of Covid lockdown. I was a taxi driver. I remember driving up Regent Street at 10.00pm on a Thursday night (Thursday evening is traditionally packed ) and I was literally the only person. No other vehicles, no pedestrians. I stopped the car and turned the engine off. No sound. It was eerie and frightening.
Reminds me of the times as a kid and my dad was a delivery driver. He would take me and my little brother with him very early in the morning delivering stock to shops and supermarkets The streets were exactly like this and it was so quiet He allowed us to take one or two things for ourselves 😅
Boris Sagal, father of Katey Sagal directed this. If you like it I recommend looking up his epic TV miniseries Masada. One of Peter O'Toole's best performances as Roman general Flavius Silva. (I'm sure the uploader is aware but this is directed to whomever might read it)
My god how cool is LA. Used to go through downtown to work early morning, loved these industrial and art deco high rise office buildings, imagined the stories they could tell, the little shops on the sidewalk, people hugging their McDonalds coffee, the LA Times van dropping off a large stack of the paper at the doors, women putting on their makeup on the buses, you felt truly that this is your home.
Lol- been watching this flick for decades now. Just caught him popping in Frank Sinatra's 'Strangers in The Night'- only that ain't 'Strangers in The Night' ! That's 'A Summer Place' by someone else for sure. Alright. I'm gonna nerd to this thing for another 30 years, easy...and don't talk to me about no Will Smith 'I Am Legend' nonsense. Don't even compare.
Mankind was wiped out years ago.... but the traffic lights are still working! Or wait... 4:09 - the traffic is still going in the distance. Charlton Heston simply owns this part of the town, that's all.
@@DaveFisher-cq2dr Ha ha yeah, and no digital removal like even I can do at home on FCP-X. The more you watch this scene actually, the more and more cars and people you see just casually getting on with their lives LOL.
One mistake I didn’t notice until much later was that the stoplights were left on as he drove through two intersections. Most of the scenes were filmed on Sunday mornings, when traffic was the lightest and streets could be cleared.
Man I love this film, but the inability in those days to digitally remove cars and people really shows through in the opening credits: 0:15 - Cars in the background on the highway 0:32 - Car crossing intersection 0:44 - Onwards - Mulptiple pedestrians casually strolling about in frame plus a car pulling over 1:40 - Pedestrian casually strolling away from camera top right by lamp posts 3:26 - Someone runs in background 4:10 - Visible traffic on highway sun reflections top of screen onwards
I have lost count on how many times i have seen this film!! 🙋🙋
It's perfect start the finish. You also have wonderful music.

You felt like Charlton for a moment 😊

The Family were watching 😂

According to Heston, this opening scene was actually the first scene filmed in the movie, which was (and is) seldom the case in the industry.
I know they shoot out of order, but do you know why they rarely shoot the opening scene first? It seems like as good a place as any to start

What a start😊 beautiful music too..PS I met Charlton in 1997 in Sydney signing his book In the Arena.
I had the chance to go to a signing of his around the same time and passed on it. My loss!

Anthony zerbe was good actor as well 😂

Sunday morning, downtown los Angeles.
driving cars in the background, walking pedestrians, lol the 4k version is so much fun to watch....
Yes,it can't have been easy to keep all signs of life out of the scenes. They say that when we watch a movie we have to 'suspend our disbelief".
Nobody noticed on it's initial Release. Just now, where you can play it around the Clock.

I remember walking to work on Xmas day a couple of times in complete silence and nobody around, it's a strange feeling alright.

So good. A classic
Como foi que eles conseguiram fazer essa cena de abertura sem ninguém nas ruas e nem nas janelas dos prédios? É assustador! 😳😳😳

Best intro scene EVER.
It’s good, but it’s not the best ever
Great Movie 💯
0:16 little mistake way behind him, there's a car driving down the off-ramp
There's a couple of cars at various points and some casual pedestrians too!
@@witblitsfilm yeah, guess the director couldn't close off every street while he was filming the movie

did you catch he was playing an 8 track tape in the red ford at the beginning
Even in 1977, 8-track players in cars were still a common sight.
Great movie, that freaked me out as a kid! This, Duel and Damnation Alley! You can see where the Movie I am Legend got it`s idea from...
I loved this movie and you reminded me of another - Duel. Yes. ...I haven't seen Damnation Alley. I'll have to look it up 1 Wongatonga.
