💈 Is This The Best Old Korean Barber Shop in Seoul For A Haircut? | 석조이발관 Stone Barbershop

- During our time in South Korea, we met and filmed with a really awesome old school gentleman named Mr. Cho 💈❤️ He is the owner of the eclectic 석조이발관 Stone Barbershop in the 돈암동 Donam-dong neighborhood of Seoul 🇰🇷
While researching barbershops in Seoul, I found one photo online showing the exterior of a barbershop that looked interesting to me. When I visited the barbershop I immediately knew it was a one of a kind shop and the barber had a long interesting history.
Mr. Cho is 83 years old and is from a rural area in the southern part of Korea. Tragically, his parents passed away when he was 8 years old.
Alone in the world, he decided to travel to Seoul as he had heard people around him talking about there being work in the town. He didn’t really comprehend where it was nor that it was the capital.
He smuggled himself onto a train he was told was going to Seoul and when the conductor came around asking for tickets, an older woman hid him under her long traditional Korean dress.
Once he arrived at Seoul Station, he was lost as he did not know anyone. On his own and hungry, a man noticed him at the station and offered him a job. It turned out the man had sold him to a local baker for labor and he had to work the debt off!
About a year later, not far from the bakery, he noticed a shop where men would enter with long messy hair and then reappear neatly groomed. It was a barbershop and it was this shop that first sparked his interest in barbering 💈
Stone Barbershop has been in business for over 50 years. It is actually a converted garage that was built into the side of an embankment. An underground staircase once connected the shop to a house above, and Mr Cho told us the owner of that house used to come down from his home for a haircut! 💇🏻♂️
The house has since been replaced by an apartment complex, and the staircase was blocked off.
Passionate about volunteer work, every week you will find Mr. Cho in the countryside giving free haircuts to senior citizens who are unable to travel to barbershops ❤️
Also, he enjoys recycling and reusing things. Mr. Cho finds things people throw away that still have use and he gives the items to people who need them or want them.

Lovely story Harry. More power to Mr Cho ❤
Barber: “Cut, Shave or Massage?”
Harry: “Yes.”
This barber is so good he shaved Harry's beard in a single frame without a razer, what a legend!
But he truly is a gem, his scissor work around the neck was amazing to watch.
That is the fasted barber i have ever seen!
Indeed my fellow joel
I noticed that ,what did I miss?
@@garyhope3731 probably a cut for a shave video coming in a few days
All the stuff cluttered inside makes it so cozy for some reason ☺️
It has its charm, definitely something else than a lot of identical looking barber shop, some of them clean and organized so much they look like doctor,s office.
Interesting choice of decor for a barbershop.
A total, embarrassing mess!
@@comesefosseantani231 A good travel blogger would call it a cozy eclectic mix of Korean memorabilia.
At first glance, I thought it was a hardware store and barbershop combo. 😮
@@comesefosseantani231 I kind of like it, to be honest - there is something comforting about the space, like your childhood room with blankets and clothes scattered about, or a library overflowing with books. Feels like the kind of cave you can retreat to.
@@dirgeofthedawn kinda takes the phrase "making a place your own" to a whole new level.
The similarities between him and Mr Lee are pretty crazy. His prep was almost identical. The way he put the towel and apron on was like Deja vu
Wow, what a story! To be 8 years old and on your own and finding a way to survive, truly incredible! When I was 8, all I thought about doing was playing marbles and riding bikes with my friends! Great haircut and technique also!
The attention to detail is immaculate! A joy to watch :)
Mr. Cho sounds awesome. It's so great to hear he is continually helping others.
Seoul, Korea... One of the most modernized cities in the world, yet Harry continues to find places like this... How do you do that, Harry? Wow... 😮
es lo que tiene el capitalismo, que los pobres son muy pobres y los ricos muy ricos...
Just harry doing harry things
Using google
I find these types of places he goes to to be the best videos. I Just wonder in some of these barbershops how many people have sat in that chair.
Best places are the old places😮
Hi Harry, I've been watched your wonderful works from 9 years ago. My first video might be the Amsterdam Haircut. Your videos always remind me my early 20's lifetime when I stayed in the US. Not many friends in there at that time because I left my home country, and your videos always gave un-explainable condolences to me, young and lonely wanderer. Now, I am 30's and still can see that you are always looking for new challenge and experience. You go to vintage barbershops where me as Korean never ever been there in my life. How do you find such a place? I had left a comment on your certain video really long time ago, and it's been a while to write down a new comment on here. Please long live the HairCut Harry!
17:35 he goes from unshaven to shaven in 2 seconds! Amazingly fast barber 😂
Glad I'm not the only one to notice! His skills are out of this world. 😅
He's the Mr Miyagi of the barber world.
😂😂
You took the word out of my mouth.
I knew someone would comment this
Exactly what I was thinking.
Honk!
Finally! Thanks for being AMAZING 😁👏🏼👏🏼⭐️
The barber is like an actor in Tarantino movies
I haven't seen that kind of detailed scissor cutting of a neckline in years. There used to be an old-time barber near my office that catered to former military that did that kind of work right in the years before the generations changed and the new "hipper" barbers took over in my area. His work on your neck and around your ears was interesting to watch.
Please define “hipper” barbers?
@@DIYTutorialGuy my guess is hipper barber are the guys who rely on rubbing over and over with clipper guards
That technique comes out on movie "GRAND TORINO" with Clint Eastwood
@@DIYTutorialGuy The younger barbers who do the kind of things Big T, Araniello suggested.
For an 83-year-old citizen, Mr Cho is doing very well.Very quiet place and very interesting decor.
Thank you Harry for introducing us to such a special special human being.. People like him are always the ones who keep giving..and this is hope.
I find it so cool to see all the different techniques that the barbers have. Seems like they all have there own way of doing things.
The shop is so cozy and full of character, i love it!
Audio is perfect with all those linens in such a small space acting like sound deadening, it's like a recording studio.
A barbershop of an accumulator, how much information in one place. Hugs from Brazil 🇧🇷
Thank you for watching and saying hello 🙏🏼
@@HairCutHarrybroo i have one question , how long it take to your hair grow again because you have a lot of videos of hair cut and in short time😅
@@lightningblade3352 he uses growth hormones 😂
Harry.. i love your vidoes and now my daughter (9) watches with me. We watch them in the evening and it calms her down ready for bed. Keep them coming!
Man his life has been interesting. To be sold off for a debt, crazy. But the fact that that didn’t stop him and found purpose from his misfortune is amazing. And to donate his time and effort to those less fortunate, all the respect for him.
His place is very interesting indeed. It reminds me of a few places you’ve been. So much stuff packed into that place lol.
He has a style very similar to Mr. Lee, great to watch. Seems they both like to use soap to wash hair.
I assume another video will come out for the shave later on because the transition is odd 🧐
Thanks for the video, waiting for more.
I went to so many little shops like this when I lived in Japan. This was nostalgic to watch. Loved this video.
Wow! Mr. Cho looks like Mr. Miyagi's twin brother - only with a longer beard. 😂
Or like retired witcher who once cut monsters, now he only cut hair and beard :)
What an incredibly colorful and enjoyable video!! very good mr. Harry. Greetings from Brazil. 🇧🇷💈👏🏻👏🏻
Loving the slick editing once again. Can’t wait to see the shave video!
Thanks for watching 🙏🏼 The shave video is coming soon!
How cool is that shop! This Channel is addictive👍🏽. Keep it coming Harry. This is the only channel I have notifications set for alert 🚨, 😂. Great content as always
another master piece. but one thing I must commend is that you give a lot of respect to these barbers, which is really inspiring. Stay blessed!
Amazing story about Mr. Cho. He is truly a self made man.
Lovely! Harry maybe a good idea is provide subtitles for these videos in Korea for us to understand what was the barber "trying" to tell you/us!
The long hair and beard just proves he's a wise grandmaster barber. The shop is also awesome.
I think this shop looks cozy as hell, collected over a long period of time. Mr Cho looks like an interesting character, and he did on spot neck work.
omg again such a masterpiece! 😮❤
Hi Harry! Good to see another upload, and I hope all is well with you, and mystery woman 👍🏼
Mr. Cho’s beard is epic! He reminds me of Mr. Wing from the movie Gremlins.
Thanks James - we are doing well :) Thank you so much for watching the new video 🙏🏼 Mr. Cho really does look like he has just walked off a movie set! Hope all is well with you too!
I thought the same thing 😂
@@UnsilentLucidity 😉
I was so confused at 22:00 when Harry had no beard and then had to go back and find the sneaky cut at 17:35 to do the old two vids for one visit trick, well hidden by the editor 😄
한국 구독자 입니다. 새로운 영상 올라올때까지 매일 같이 기다리는데, 서울에서 영상 올리시다니 너무 반갑고 좋네요.^* 맛있는거 많이 드시고 즐기시다가 가셨으면 하네요.
where are the best barbershops in seoul? besides harry
Mr Cho is so humble and gentle.
finally legend Is Back 🙂
He's back! Thanks Harry for another great video 👍
Amazing as always!
Now that is a place begging to be documented with a camera. What a space!
I always love the sound of the scissors, I appreciate more the barber using it
Another Excellent video Harry❤your a credit to us all Love all your videos very relaxing❤Love from Dublin Ireland🇮🇪
This guy saves money on a lease by running his barbershop out of a storage unit for chachkies reseller. Smart guy.
Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi) has grown an awesome beard. Became a Barber. Secretly moved to Korea. Awesomeness.
Like having a barber shop in my walk-in closet!😂
I pray I still have hair like Harry’s when I’m his age 🙏🏽
Why?
Another great old school Barber Harry...
Loving these great 👍 videos... before I go to sleep 😴 💤
Nice video, Harry. You suppose he knows exactly where everything is in his curiosity/barber shop? Quite an intriguing place. :)
Cześć! Kolejny wspaniały mistrz! Wszystkiego dobrego Harry

Pan Cho, 83 lata i żwawo ogarnia Harrego. A u nas w tym wieku chłop ledwo łazi.
Pozdrowionka🙂
Wow the decor!! Man I love when you find these local small barber in the cities you travel to❤❤ keep up these videos I absolutely love them
One of the most interesting barber shops I've ever seen. Looks like you got your hair cut in somebody's pantry.
Brown towel = to cover the chest
Black towel = to cover the neck
Pink towel = to dry the hands
Red towel = to dry the hair
It is a matter of organization
Nice cut. Great viden. I really enjoyed.
Glad you liked it! It was a pleasure to meet Mr. Cho who is a very kind gentleman 💈❤️
Finally a video
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
All kinds of interesting things to see lol,the haircut was relaxing.
That sink is amazing. Go into it unshaven and come out shaven. Some real magic over there!
It’s nice to see a minimalist barbershop.
Reading comments. Wondering and checking if I saw the video like the others.
Is that a Barber Shop/Flea Market Combo? You always were one for finding eclectic places Harry but this one takes the prize! Some damn fine scissor work as well! ♥✂💈👏
No wonder the local Dollar Store was out of scissors.
Crazy good ASMR here Harry! 👊😎
Glad you liked it! Hope you are doing well :)
Wow! A barber shop in the middle of a walk-in closet. Can honestly say I've never seen that before.
All that tender snipping from 6:15 is enough to put anyone to sleep!
What a wonderful success story from lonely boy to a barber enjoying his trade.
In all our haste to prefer the modern world of steel concrete and glass we shouldn’t neglect those humble souls with small businesses who’ve been around the longest, and are so often teetering on the edge of going under in this climate.
That’s sadly the case here in the UK, small business are crumbling at the mercy of larger ones. I can walk through the main streets of my town and need more than two hands to count vacant shops to let.
Never judge a book by its cover?! 🤯 The squeaky shears added a touch for sure. No frills, old school master barber.
loved this one mr cho did a great job. i like watching the older barbers cut hair they can do it right. the younger ones want to style your hair in a certain way thats why i agree with haircut harry that traditional is the right way to go
Great Video. To be in your 80s and still doing what you love. This reminds me of when I was 19, getting my hair cut and washed by a woman who was in her late 70s or 80.😅
My kind of haircut. My grandmother use to wash my head that way. I would love to have Mr. Cho cut my hair and give me a shave. Not to many barbers use kamisori razors anymore.
Hope could see you visit traditional shanghai style barbershop too :D
When they start cutting with the 44/20’s I know it is going to be awesome! Thanks Harry!
I respect Harry for this. I could not sit there longer than a minute.
Why?
Well it's you, I can sit there for an hour
He was born in the 1950s. I lived in that neighborhood for over 10 years and went to that barbershop.
Absolutely relaxing to watch Harry, thanks for sharing and more importantly, great technique from the barber. Huge respect to him and you, Harry making these videos, it really helps with my anxiety to watch.
That's some organized chaos lol. I bet that man knows where everything is if he needs to grab it 😂
I love how anechoic that shop is. You could hear the hairs coming off him during the shave.
It was great😍
50 years ago I spent 31 months in Seoul while in the army. I wish I had seen his shop then. Amazed by all the scissors. I liked the Buddhist wood knocker hanging on the wall. Does the fire Marshall ever visit?
Using an old scrap peice of paper to wipe away the razor at the 15:00 mark, whilst unhygienic, is unintentional ASMR gold.
This guy set up his shop in the Room of Requirement! 🤣
So chill. Thanks, Harry.
Hey Harry. Was wondering if you are able to tell us what Mr. Cho was saying about your hair at the 10:46 mark. Hope you are having a wonderful day!
A nice one Harry!
Excellent Video, from the South of France!
Pittoresque et surprenant Coiffeur à l'ancienne , encore une belle trouvaille de Harry
Merci
Very great job … 👍😺
Another gem. Doesn’t look like he’ll run out of towels (or scissors) anytime soon.
Brother, your videos give me peace of mind. While you try barbers in different countries, you also promote and make them happy. I think you deserve more subscribers. Greetings
Duuuude, you featured a barber in Seongbuk-dong recently and I said it was close to my home. Now you are filming IN my neighborhood. That`s wild. Are you still here?
Hi - we are no longer there; we were in town last fall :)
I love his shop. I think every man need to get a shave and haircut from him because he is so detailed
Great video harry,a very unique barber shop, always a pleasure to watch 👌😀👍
Thanks Shaun 🙏🏼 Hope you are doing well!
@@HairCutHarry I'm well thanks Harry👍
Interesting barbershop I almost fell asleep watching this!
If that was any barber here, they’ll prob give you a short haircut, glad this barber knew not to cut it short and gave you a nice taper. 10/10. But luckily, I found a few good ones here.
17:35 with moustouche then 17:36 without moustouche nice transition. 😊😊
Btw you cure my problem at sleeping, i've been working at night shift for 7 years now. Just wanna let you know you guys are big help for someone like me.
Hope you visit Philippines soon. I wish to meet you someday Harry :😊😊
So relaxing. I put these videos on a fall asleep.
Super 👍👍👍👍👍💪💪💪💪
Great vids, love it 17.35 you are not shaved. And 17.36 you are shaved.
Thank you for the amazing video like always keep up the good work
He sells hats incase you don't like your hair cut lol
Nice one 😊
