Gone are the days when they used to sing opera in the language understandable to the audience. What a pity! The singers are excellent, yet the stage design is very poor.
we had a production of Merry Widow here in brazil that created an uproar in the Opera purists; Merry Widow, a opera that was translated in every conner of Europe, imagine if they translated Ballo or Rigoletto people got spoiled by the recording market, they only like to listen what they think they should listen, this also aply to voices
The practical sets, various camera angels, beautiful costumes and simple props are all they needed here to allow the music to take focus and with proper use of lighting and simple stage construction they have mounted a respectable production plus, the last scene features a very nice ballroom setting. Again, allowing the composer’s music to shine should be the priority.
What a cast!!! Grande Feđa Radovan!!!
hvala!
Das war 1979. 1988 hat Nads Sirisevic schon längst Ruzdjsk geheißen.
