  • Vertebrates went through a series of evolutions, transitioning from filter-feeding to predatory swimming, ultimately becoming the dominant species on Earth. In the previous videos, we discussed the evolutionary history of vertebrates, from the Late Cambrian to the Devonian period, where they continuously evolved and overcame various challenges. Through the development of a powerful nervous system, adaptive skeletal structures, and evolutionary jaws, vertebrates made significant advancements. Their size and superior nerve conduction speed allowed them to stand out among species, ultimately leading to their dominance and rulership over the Earth.

    As a vertebrate, I feel my heart swelling with pride upon seeing the hard fought wins of my ancient ancestors.

      @@AncientDiscovery- I know you addressed this at the beginning of your video, but I think your language is confusing. It gives sentience to a species, or a large group of animals evolving, evolution has no sentience as you know. Your language really implies it does. Other than that, great video!

      @@ElectronFieldPulse Yes, I use some metaphorical rhetorical techniques to make the story of evolution more engaging. If it's all very rigorous and dry, perhaps not many people would be interested; after all, reading a scientific paper can be quite dull. My aim is to popularize science and make more people interested in the story of evolution. Hopefully, some of them will then delve into more professional and rigorous biological knowledge. What I want to do is to spark their interest first. After all, I really love these stories of evolution, and I hope more people will love them too.

      I don't think sea scorpions or their opponents thought much about "ruling Earth" but rather just eating all these tasty animals.

    IDK do vertebrates really "dominate the world" have you seen ants?

    • @AncientDiscovery
      @AncientDiscovery  8 месяцев назад

      "Is your judgment of whether to dominate the world based on quantity? Isn't it based on the size of occupying ecological niches? According to your logic, I think, microorganisms are the ones dominating the world."

    • @myrmepropagandist
      @myrmepropagandist 8 месяцев назад

      @@AncientDiscovery I would agree with that. microorganisms are very successful, and highly evolved and adapted to many environments.
      But I think if aliens looked at our planet they would want to meet the ants fist since they are the most advanced life with the most complex well functioning systems and a reach and complexity that puts everyone else to shame.
      The age of the ants began just some 50 million years ago and who knows how long it will last. They are just getting started.

    You really need more work on how to pronounce the names of these amimals. Ostracoderms have the "a" sound as in "up" not "cat". You have the syllables wrong in Entolognathus - it's En-tel-o-gna-thus, not en-te-log-nath-us, with the stress on "gna" not "log". Other than this your content is great.

    • @AncientDiscovery
      @AncientDiscovery  Год назад

      Yes, you are right, but I can't control the AI's pronunciation. I currently don't have any good solutions.

    • @AncientDiscovery
      @AncientDiscovery  Год назад +1

      Furthermore, English is not my native language, nor is Latin. I make videos solely for the purpose of learning English. I'm really confused about these Latin pronunciation rules, and I don't know how to make the AI voice produce the correct pronunciation.

    • @johnfoster6412
      @johnfoster6412 Год назад +1

      @@AncientDiscovery Thanks for clarifying. Part of the challenge is that the scientific names are not really latin or greek, but a bastardised mixture of the two (with made-up words added in!). You need to look into the origins of the words used to see how to pronounce them. Perhaps there are resources in your native tongue which could provide some guides to pronouncing these technical terms.

    • @AncientDiscovery

    Awesome video. However, I'm not into the ideas of an animal "ruling" Earth or other animals "overthrowing" them. They probably didn't even think in such terms.
    If I were a Dunkleosteus hunting sea scorpions, I wouldn't be interested in killing them off but I would love to see them thrive, so I have a good time as well.

    • @AncientDiscovery
      @AncientDiscovery  Год назад

      This is just a metaphorical writing technique that makes the story interesting. Except for humans, probably no other animals have the concept of ruling or overthrowing. Even evolution itself is unconscious, merely resulting in the survival of animals that adapt to their environment while those unable to adapt go extinct. However, I don't want the evolution story to be so boring. I prefer to make the story more vivid.

      I know that this isn't meant seriously but rather to pimp up the story but I'm afraid that some people might take it at face value.
      As far as I'm concerned, the story itself is fascinating enough.

    ok , it didn't occour to me how the mielin sheet was a powerful upgrade for us vertebrates : having significantly more efficient control mechanisms can allow us to just move their bodies with significantly more controll and efficiency ,
    achiving speed size and basically all the good stuff ,
    the only other trick i can see competing with this may be imenopterans beign haplodiploids en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haplodiploidy
    and thus being able to have eusociality for free almost and being able to have a gene pool absoluetely cleaned from extra deleterius genes ...
