I didn't expect to come across a video on this topic 😅
I definitely appreciate you giving your thoughts on it and sort of being able to understand where I was actually coming from rather than the average osu npc saying "he'll be back after a week-" and whatnot. I think the point I wanted to get across in my original tweet is that I genuinely still love the game, it's been in my life for almost a decade which is half my life span so far and if i could balance it with my life, I most definitely would, but I have a PROBLEM. It extends into media consumption/video games in general but osu! is definitely what I spend the most time wasting on and I think I've just let it take up enough time now. Sure it seems silly for me to seem like I'm having an existential crisis at my age but at what age am I gonna actually start trying to make my life SOMETHING, I don't want to end up struggling paycheck to paycheck, and sitting on my ass playing osu now is gonna land me in that exact spot. I don't know what I struggle with, maybe it's adhd, maybe something else, or maybe im just that fucking addicted, but I really do have a problem and I feel so strongly that this is a start to fixing it for me.
Definitely will leave an update on twit on the adhd thing though when I get that checked if that was of any peculiar interest for anyone, I only mention it because I struggled with my motivation and focus throughout all of highschool and thought I was just a write-off and since I never opened up about this issue I never thought to go find out if I have it or not.
Last bit of yap is that I believe all video games are technically a 'waste of time', but as long as you're having fun and not slowing your life down/prioritizing said game over something important than there's no harm in it. I can't say the same for me, throughout all of 11th grade I handed in like 1 assignment and flopped the whole year and for some reason even though I cried so many times not understanding why I was so frickin' lazy I could not do anything but play video games, that is the difference between an addiction and a hobby. Mine has effectively changed the trajectory of my life where as something like a hobby should most definitely not. To sort of support that, ironically when I forgot how to hold my tablet pen and couldnt play much, the year after that I actually had better grades and I think that was no coincidence, but then I got sick anyway and couldn't finish school which gave me time to relearn osu. IT HURTS MY HEAD IN HINDSIGHT THE FORCES WERE TRYNNA MAKE ME QUIT
yap session complete, all in all I'm hoping that this is for the best and it's not like I'll be out of touch or gone anyway, just not grinding and hopefully going off to study something I actually like

I'm just glad to see you willing to open up about your addiction and the struggles osu brought to you
I agree that it is SO much more healthier to treat osu as a hobby aka you play it occasionally and the goal is to have fun
Many of us, myself included, have definitely put thought into quitting something for the better but only a few are willing to take actual steps on improving the situation, especailly when it comes to a video game, your mind can easily be consumed and it can be really hard to resist that pulling force
      Stay strong brother 👊

I just don’t really understand how it gets to this point, like I have been playing osu for around 3 months now with around 8k or so plays every month, and I still maintain good grades and have a job. I don’t really understand how it gets to the point where you just say “I don’t care about anything else imma just play osu”. I understand it’s an addiction and the dopamine release from getting the big pp play can be good (or bad when you don’t play good), and this can get addicting, but isn’t every video game similar?

@@coolstuf. A lot of games are similar, it's just osu! that became his thing. By the way he clearly DOES care about "anything else" or he wouldn't open up about this or take steps to change. He's not blaming osu specifically here, he's blaming his relationship with the game. People are different and have different struggles.

I'm just gonna say I realize now this channel is a blessing to the osu community, the fact that someone actually has the balls to talk openly about topics most would avoid because it's "controversial". Thank you KAPNOYR, you're based as hell.

This video is awesome. I love how earnest you are about this topic and how you're not afraid to say things that may be unpopular like how osu! can be destructive. Makes me really think about my relationship with the game. Thanks for yapping, dude.

Sad to see ASecretBox go but props for his decision, hopefully he can stick to it as well. Balancing IRL with video games real life can work and I'm always surprised how many people can do it, but for some it's just unrealistic. If you find not being able to quit games (even when they're not fun anymore, or you feel guilty about playing) be a common theme in your life, maybe you should look into ADHD as videogame addiction is a very common indicator for it, and addiction in ADHD works differently compared to the average person.

I would like to say I am definitely getting tested for it soon enough, my whole life I've struggled with motivation and focus for as long as I can remember and I've never found a very good reason as to why I was so different to my classmates and peers 😭

(attention, I wrote a book)[and yea that's written by translate because my english is not that good to read essey sorry]
I understand what you want to convey and I agree with you and a film of this type, in general, topics of this type are very important, you need to know when a game is no longer worth playing for you, etc.
but on the other hand, I can't even judge for myself whether playing osu is good for me, bad or somewhere in between.
My dream has always been to "achieve something", I mean I would like to be the best at something or be known for being good at something.
because in my opinion osu has a very good ranking mode compared to other games in my opinion because it shows exactly your ranking based on points in the case of osu pp or rather the games have quite different forms
and this is one of the reasons why I believe that osu will one day be something in which I will be able to fulfill myself
I also want to add that games have been very important from practically the beginning of my life
going back to what you said in the video
I understand that for most people, life can really get better after they stop playing osu, but I won't lie that in my case it's different.
I'd like to say right away that for about two and a half years I've been struggling with what used to be bigger, now smaller anxiety, and generally at that time, 2 years ago, I wasn't well mentally, and osu was a thing that helped me cope, calm down, etc., and I don't think I'm addicted to it. osu but I feel that without this game I wouldn't be able to function the way I do because apart from osu
just playing osu and following community I'm a bit empty
I have a girlfriend who helps me, but sometimes I have to help myself and osu is that help
because I have no friends or even idk fellas to talk on discord except my girlfriend
I don't have the mentality to actually meet someone
go alone to places where there are a lot of people, etc.. plus I also struggle with other problems that I won't mention here
but the point is that I really can't judge whether stopping playing osu would be a good choice in my case
(I had to pour everything out, that's why I wrote a book-length comment lol, I didn't say everything I wanted to here anyway)[and i forgot that I enjoy playing osu it's not like i play only because i am addicted]

Tbh I don’t consider my video game time a waste because I spend time with my friends that way and I’d explode emotionally with stress every day lol, but I’ve only played games more since years prior, and I’ve replaced my entire fake friend circle, found people who I appreciate and in return appreciate me, and I’ve been in better physical condition. I think what I’m trying to say is, simplifying it to “person vs vice” is really stupid, because at the end of it, it’s a person vs themselves.

It's interesting to see the dark side of gaming. In my point, some things are good to an extent just like medicine. We have to do things in moderation but tend to overdo it. People argue that time enjoyed is not time wasted but we still have to consider that time is an investment. While we will enjoy things by spending time, we have to consider how much we are spending and if it's beneficial the long run. I really hope everyone watching this video learns to value time, while osu is a great game, satisfyingly clicking circlee to the beat, you have to see that just like any other game, you're not making a career out of playing it. Sure you would say make money by streaming but it's difficult and only a few notable people like btmc or mrekk have made a reasonable living out of it
