As a rookie animator myself, with much of the same inspiration as you, this work fills me with hope and the determination to make my own projects just as good, if not better. I haven't quite started my own legend yet, but this is a promising start for yours. I hope that when I post my own animations, they'll inspire you as this inspires me, just like Monty, Mark, and Cake inspire both of us.

This is an amazing kickoff to your animation career, absolutely nice work.
You've gotten a lot of the most difficult parts of animation and filmmaking right; camera work and framing were excellent, there was no lack of creativity in the action sequences, as well as dynamic use of the environment.
Like you asked for on Twitter: I do have some pointers to possible areas of improving though, most of which is the usual things starting animators struggle with.
The main thing is something I've had struggles with at the start as well, speed. Your animation is too slow. Don't be afraid to make things move fast, very fast, really make weapons fly across the screen. For this animation 1.5 to 1.75 times the speed seems to be a stronger look.
To add to that, try to incorporate some motion blur as well, be it mesh stretching or actual camera based calculated blur. It really helps making moves feel faster and stronger.
Secondly, and this will take some practice, but it feels like your characters aren't very alive. Their movement is very stiff, this is especially apparent in the Grimm, which don't actually move very much at all (when they aren't running).
Take an example from 3:18 to 3:47. The Grimm makes 1 claw swipe, 2 tail swipes, and bites the weapon. Its body as well as remaining 3 legs are practically static for the nearly 30 second sequence, while "K" is moving around it.
I'm sure that with a bit more practice and attention to detail you could easily unleash some amazing animations into this world, I hope you make more of these!

Thank you for checking it out. I actually never noticed that that big grimm was not active enough I was too distracted with thinking what move to use next so it doesn't get repetetive. I watched it in 1.5 speed and it does feel better but song is messed up, the song itself is too slow and I was too afraid that I would make animation too fast.
Thank you again for your advice. :)

Incredible animation! It makes me so sad to see how the RUclips algorithm treats truly talented creators.

Awesome! Animation not to mention this was made on Blender, a software that I thought was very complicated and intimidating. You instantly earned my respect just from that alone Hehe.
Including the environment into the fight with tree falling on top of the grimm.
Creative Choreography pulling the spear form under and the epic multi slash attack around the character was lit.
    And great song choice.
Hope your next animation will be as fire or more fire as this one, Goodlucks

Watching this after your M Trailer, I really love how on top of your just really strong fundamentals, choreography and camera work, your videos always take the time to inject humanity into them: K taking a moment to catch his breath and calm his nerves after the fight; the friendship and resolve shown in the M Trailer... your skillset as an animator and storyteller, being able to balance action and story well is insanely well-rounded and a rarer skill than most think. I have no doubt you'll go far!

This was great. Fluid animation. Effective and creative use of weapon and environment. For this being your first project, you should be very proud.
I only have a couple of things to critique. The walking looked stiff, especially during the opening, it did look better towards the end. The characters feel weightless at times, like they move and stop on a dime, the sense of inertia is lost. Finally, some better sound design will definitely get this to the next level.
I'm excited to see what you bring out next

    • @CroatianLizard
      @CroatianLizard  3 года назад +3

Thank you for checking it out. It's unreal to have someone actually like my work. Yes, walking will be 1st on my get better list and making them more realistic (not weightless). This is the best sounds I could find on free sound effects sites. Do you have some better sites I could check out (doesn't have to be free) or do you recommend to pay someone else to make them for me?

@@CroatianLizard yeah, I’m not exactly geared towards animation or anything like that. Much better at cooking and music, than anything else, lol. I am learning to play 3 more instruments, after the 5 I already am somewhat decent at. Mostly because I get bored easily, lol. But thanks, for the encouragement.

2:58 bit of a wasted opportunity to not have him kick the Grimm head at the other or at 3:08 not having him send his blade through multiple Grimm then use that red Dust to slice them all in half. There's a couple times you could've made the choreography cooler but otherwise still pretty good all in all.
