    As always, a brilliant review!
    If you're considering this tablet, it's the SCREEN that did it for me. I love iOS and have had all the iPad minis - and I've had a dozen ~8" Android tablets, and the Galaxy Tab S2 is best for people who value form factor and screen quality above anything else. If you can forgive the average battery life, even iPhone/iPad lovers will prefer this tablet because it is much thiner and lighter - and the *screen* makes it so much better for video and reading. For browsing the internet in bed, you can invert the colours and there will be *no light* blasted from the screen. AMOLED is far superior to IPS, but sadly there are no iOS devices which use this technology. Get this tablet for the screen and thinness, but not for performance or battery life (for basic stuff, you can't tell a difference, anyway).
    There's a NEW version of this that uses the Snapdragon 652 processor and is slightly faster, being sold for 350 USD. You are better off finding a used version of the older model, even the NOOK version, which just forces you to have a B&N Nook app, but still lets you use Google Play store. Also, the 4G LTE version is an international version - and will only work at 3G and HSPA+ speeds in the United States. This is still plenty fast for WhatsApp, RUclips, Gmail, web browsing, etc. It's just not so great for HQ movie streaming or syncing large files.
    Random nerd note: This tablet does support APT-X codec for high quality bluetooth audio; not all that common in tablets - and nonexistent in iOS devices.

    Spot on review here, tx... I picked this up for $239 during a flash sale to compare to tab s 8.4. You sir were correct. Not much of an upgrade at all. I'm selling it and keeping the 1st gen...
    Samsung released this two weeks apart from note 5. Yet put a note 4 cpu in this for some strange reason. Another big miss was lack of quick charge 2.0 to make up for tiny battery. Battery life should improve with marshmallow update due out next month. I just find it absurd to average around 5 hours on screen time and 5 hours charge time in this day and age. Sacrificing battery life to this extent to have the thinnest, lightest tablet out baffles me. Taking 1mm of width away cost us 900mah (1st gen) of battery... Ridiculous Samsung
    Sadly, ir blaster and stereo speakers were also dropped from 1st gen...
    If you're trying to decide between tablets. This will give you an idea based on your needs...
    1st gen 8.4 = Multimedia, gaming 16:10 ratio, stereo speakers...
    2nd gen 8.0 = Browsing, reading 4:3 ratio, apple users smoothest transition

    I am currently in the market for a replacement for my IPad3, and this seems to fit the bill, however my only concern is how well the device works in regard to both word and PowerPoint. I really need a newer tablet for school, but I can't find much on the mobile versions of office.

    Users that have both used the Tab S and Tab S2 which screen display overall was better. I know the processor and performance on the newer model is better but it is the screen or display that is still killing me on making a decision. (I plan to watch movies and a lot of youtube on it so display is very important for me. dw about the aspect ratio i dont mind letter boxing not one bit just the quality and sharpness of the screen i can really very notice that)

    • @FriaGram
      @FriaGram 8 лет назад

      the older model screen is better for video, iirc it is higher ppi also, battery is bigger too.
      4x3 makes this better for general use and browsing. Widescreen is somewhat bad for anything other than movies... Also widescreen is a bit unwieldy.

    +The Tech Chap TV just a little review about me, because I'm a bit confuse to choose either 9.7 or 8.0. On the other side, I am mobile person and love to maintain my productivity (browsing and review data: word or excel).

    • @Thetechchap
      @Thetechchap  9 лет назад

      +Hendy Harsono I'd opt for the 9.7 - it's still really portable but big enough for work. Thin bezels means it's still a compact device :)

    • @hendyharsono6359
      @hendyharsono6359 9 лет назад +1

      Why not 8.0? Is it too small? Does tabs2 8.0 more suitable for read only?

    • @Thetechchap
      @Thetechchap  9 лет назад

      +Hendy Harsono Well what is 'too' small is subjective, I really liked the 8.0 but I would find the 9.7 more comfortable to do actual office work on :)

    • @hendyharsono6359
      @hendyharsono6359 9 лет назад +1

      Really? What if just for mobile and less doing office work, or may be just a simple editing. What would you think? Sorry if I've a lot of questions coz seriously I'm afraid if I buy a wrong size and I don't want to waste it.

    • @Thetechchap
      @Thetechchap  9 лет назад

      +Hendy Harsono That's okay :) Can you not try them in a shop or one buy and return it if you think it's too big/small? I just think since our phones are around 5-inches anyway, an 8-inch tablet is a bit pointless. Better going for a proper, 9.7-inch tablet for getting more done and enjoying content.

    I'm currently using the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 with a full keyboard connected via the OTG cable. I would have liked to have air view, IR blaster and glove mode features included into the tablet. I like the fact that you are open to tablet photography. Many reviews are so anti-photography on a tablet. I do agree with that the lack of Marshmallow is disappointing but it is not that bad really. Setting individual app permissions? Too tedious. Google On Tap? A great idea.
    When WiFi and/or mobile data is on, any tablet (or phone for that matter) will drain faster than when the WiFi and/or mobile data is off. At least with the Galaxy tablet and other non iOS tablets, users can still use offline content for their own enjoyment. The thing with the iPads and iPhones nowadays is that they are limited (unless users buy content that can be accessed offline) without consistent access to the internet.
    Charging can be long in my experience as well but I can use my phone while waiting for the tablet to recharge. At least there are advanced power saving modes that can preserve the battery for longer.
    Any tablet is better than the Microsoft Surface 2 RT tablet (what a waste).
    Asphalt Airborne is getting old by the way.
    Great review! Keep up the good work. 😺
    End of speech. Lol! 😸

      +The Tech Chap TV Thank you for replying. You sound and read as the most professional reviewer I have encountered thus far. Many reviewers, including Joanna Stern, MKDHB and the team at The Verge, have a such a disappointingly string bias against any Samsung software and hardware.
      Admittedly TouchWiz can be very slow on any Samsung device. However I do appreciate their efforts in introducing features that make full use of any screen size unlike "cough!" Nexus, "cough!". Turning Samsung and other OEM towards stock or pure Android would make the mobile devices look and feel too much like iOS.
      I am sure that many Android users do not want that.
      By the way, (barrage of questions incoming) do you do comparisons? What is your daily driver for a phone and tablet? What are your opinions on the state of mobile in 2015 and coming into 2016?
      End mini speech. 😸 LOL! 😺

      I really don't know what to get now! I started off with iOS but i don't like just the grid of apps i like more features. Which one between the Tab A and the Tab S2 would you recommend?

    • @konut7607
      @konut7607 9 лет назад +2

      I just went to target today and tested the Tab A for youtube, games and looking at text. Everything on it seems to look a lot better then people say it is. People are just so used to the high resolution tablets. They think this the Tab A is really ugly which it's not.

      Nope - nothing really new here. It was expected Samsung might announce a new Galaxy Tab 3 at IFA in Berlin (sept 2016) but they didn't. So this is still their best mid-range tablet.

    First of all, Brilliant review.. But I do have some questions, that would be very nice of you, to answer.. Between Air 2,Tab S 8.4, Tab S2 8.0, Tab S2 9.7, Which one do you suggest? (For someone who watches youtube videos, reads articles and books with kindle and pocket, and plays games sometimes.. I'm horribly confused.. some say I should buy the Air 2, because of the optimized OS and the vast number of optimized apps, But some claim, Android has got to a very good place in terms of optimization, speed, apps, etc. You seam to be using this, Do you by any chance have any opinion about Google Play and Tablified Market HD's collection of optimized apps (for tablets) for the usage that I mentioned above?) Also, would appreciate it If you could tell me which one is the best for reading (the bigger size or the 8.0)

    • @Bitot-y5e
      @Bitot-y5e 8 лет назад

      It depends on your priority. The 16:9 ratio of the Tab S 8.4 is perfect for watching movies or RUclips videos. But the 4:3 ratio of the Tab S2 & Air 2 make it suitable for reading books and articles. As for the gaming, choose the one that has less lag.

    Hearthstone on it is pretty smooth for the most part. Large particle effects make it slow down a bit, but I bought this tablet instead of an iPad for Hearthstone alone. I have an iPad Air I use sometimes from work, and it is a bit smoother on the iPad than this. But this device is so much smaller and easier to carry around. It's much lighter and compact.

    Tom; hmmm. Another excellent review. Just as excellent as the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4.....which was so revealing, your review was the last nudge needed to buy it. And buy it I did in June (5 mos. ago). Everything you state in that review was true.........until a few months go by. Speaker quality of sound breaks down. Battery life horrible, and takes 6-7hrs to recharge. I just last week developed tiny bright pixels in the incredibly thin screen. Samsung's GeeWiz UI absolutely s-l-o-w......and buggy. Location services never worked well. Bought in Montreal; wherever I go, the tablet refuses to acknowledge location change. The Samsung "gifts" only apply to country of purchase. On 5.0.2 currently; you'd never know it, as GeeWiz takes over and renders entire user feel cumbersome. Do your viewers a favor and review the true Android best....which really; should have been my purchase: Sony's Z line tablet. Sony UI best of all Android tablets. Comparing to this review: still like aspect ratio of my GTS 8.4 vs this GTS2 8. That dimpled back you didn't like a life-saver for unit as it is as slippy as my Sony Z3 phone; which is awesome and can handle any and all abuse. The camera on my Samsung tablet was, and still is: awesome for a tablet........but really; it's a piece of junk otherwise and will enter the dustbin library of tech at home......It was an incredible 90 day wonder! Just don't expect it to last. My Samsung Note3 same.....awesome at first; sh*t after 90 days of use. So...... then..... back to my boring but trusty iPad Mini 2 Retina.....which has never had an issue.

    • @Thetechchap
      @Thetechchap  9 лет назад

      +Larry R Hi Larry! Wow what a post - thanks for still checking out my videos (I think the GTS8.4 was one of the first reviews I did!). Sounds like you had a bit of a rollercoaster ride with it. A couple of quick points I'd make: Design is obviously very subjective and while I didn't like the 'look' of the 8.4's dimples I grant you it was easy to hold/grippable. Although I think the new S2 with it's rubbery plastic back looks much nicer & is actually even easier to hold.
      The problem i've been finding with certain Samsung products (Galaxy S6, GTS8.4) is that performance and battery deteriorate quite significantly with use. I'm weighing up whether to post a vid regarding my GS6 dropping in performance (65k Antutu score at launch vs 45k now). So yeah TouchWiz is still a problem.
      Anyway it sounds like you got a lot of use out of your 8.4 but it wasn't the perfect tablet for you. I think I may try and get my hands on a Xperia Z4 Tablet for review as you're right in saying in many ways they are better than the Samsungs!

      +The Tech Chap TV Tom, I really wanted to like the device. It was a perfect in-hand portrait reader. The amoled display. And frankly, I am somewhat of a Sony accidental fanboy; and wanted something to shed that. I own a Sony RX100Mk2 camera, 3 Sony Vaio Laptops, Xperia Z, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1Compact, and daily driving now Xperia Z3. All work flawlessly. I had a Samsung Galaxy Ace2, Samsung Note 3 (employer issued I daily endure) and then now this GTS8.4. All failures as far as contentment with daily usage. I tried. Great at the outset, but disappoint quickly. My Z1C and Z3 best phones I have ever owned. Idea for long term review I see you decided to do. I am sure you may be aware that the "After the Buzz" series @ Pocketnow is popular. You may find if you keep your tech it would be great content for us subs.

      It lasts all day generally. If I was using it nonstop, flat out, it would be 8 hours or so. I have battery pack/power bank 10 Ma I take with me on a big day out. I hardly ever need to plug it in to the power bank. Screen brightness is a factor too. In bright sunlight it uses more power.
      I have never been troubled by battery life. In nornal realife use it is fine. When I sit down in the evening to surf the web I am at home and have power handy anyway. To sum up the battery life is ts weakest point but it is still a champion machine.Battery 7/10 but overall 9.5
