I liked Jack and all the different characters he played and his humor in “Support Your Local Sheriff “. He helped make the picture what it was. He aged brilliantly with the characters he played, genuine.

Jack was amazing. In so many westerns he is the one character that made it more than just another western. And I loved him in "the Cannonball Run."

When I was a kid, he always played the villian in westerns. I didn't know his name, but he was ALWAYS recognizable because of his crazy eyes! 😅

Jack was THE BEST! He could play any role: good guy, bad guy, sidekick, buffoon, crazy or serious. They broke the mold when the made William "Jack" Elam.

As a kid in the late 50s and early 60s I always wanted Jack to be gunned down as a villain. I started liking him later when he played good guy on Gunsmoke protecting some orphan kids and other funny good guy roles as in Night of the Grizzly and on Home Improvement was the last time I saw him. Great Actor and decent man.

Jack had what was called a wall eye. The muscle that moves the eyeball to the right had been cut loose from the eyeball, and back then there was not much that could be done for the eye. I've had seven operations on my eyes, 6 on one and one on the other. There will be some movement on the eye, probably by the muscle on the other side of the eye and the other 2 muscles, one on top and one on the bottom.

Always liked Jack Elam,he was one of those character actors you knew the face but didn't always know is name. There were others like him Dub Taylor,Peter Whitney,Strother Martin,Andy Devine,Edger Buchanan, I could go on but these actors weren't times what made the movies rather than the headline actors.

Westerns create a cultural context. There's a depth of mythology involved, with it's own archetypal figures, astute and insightful narratives and a world of worthy excerpts and worthwhile quotations.
