Once you start the recording, you should go back to the powerpoint presentation and use it as you normally would. OBS will record it in the background.

I was doing it this way in the beginning but didn't know how to make the slides go back one or forward. I understand I can click the mouse and it will go ahead one slide but still don't know how to make the slide go back one. Also in OBS image slide show I can make that work great all except for recording the cursor. In settings the hide cursor is disabled but in image slideshow there is no show cursor to select, any ideas? I also tried to do a display capture but can not figure out how to combine the two where the image slide show will record the cursor.

Make sure that the correct powerpoint file is selected in the source. Close powerpoint completely, open the file that you want to record and then click it as the source.

Why you need OBS or any screen recorder for Power Point? Power Point itself has the option to record the video with lot of features up to 4k resolution.

yes but the quality of chroma depends on the quality of your camera. Builtin cameras do not produce great quality with OBS chroma.
