Just some quick notes regarding wizard "blood": Pureblood = Born from at least two previous generations of wizard/witch ancestry. HalfBlood = One or both parents have some degree of non-magic blood. Muggleborn/Mudblood = Both parents are Muggles. Harry is considered Half-blood because his mom was Muggleborn. Snape is the Half-Blood Prince because his mom (who was a witch) had the maiden name "Prince". His father was a muggle.
And yes, as Ashleigh suspected, the book goes MUCH deeper into the mystery behind who the Half-Blood Prince is/was. I enjoy the movie a lot, but they treat the title of the story like an afterthought here.
This is where the movies frequently fail to provide necessary detail. The movie makers figure that everyone has read the books so they don’t fill it in. This is especially true of certain characters who get robbed of their development as well as a certain item that appears out of nowhere with no explanation at all.
It's unbelievable that the makers of this movie thought there was no need to explain that. It's as bad as not explaining the Marauders in Prisoner of Azkaban. I don't mind changes or removing things, but some things are critical and the movies botched the explanation.
Pure Blood = Both parents are magical. Half Blood = One parent is a muggle, the other is a witch/wizard, or both parents are half bloods. Muggle Born/“Mudblood” = Both parents are muggles yet have a magical child. Squib = Born of two magical parents but has no magical abilities (sort of the opposite of being muggle born). The grouchy grounds keeper with the cat, for example, is a squib. As was the old lady who witnessed the dementors attacking Harry and Dudley in The Order Of The Phoenix.
But but but..............What about the......and the .......... Spoilers suck as much as NOT talking about spoilers........ ARRRGGGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!!! ;)
Giiiirl...your jump to RAB immediately nearly killed me. How??? Also, yes, the books talk about Half-blood Prince. Snape's father was a muggle and his mother, Eileen PRINCE, was a witch. Snape's father was horribly abusive so he called himself Half-blood Prince because it was the only part of himself that he was proud of. Snape is a half blood. A mudblood is a witch or wizard born to two muggle parents.
They go into it so much more in the books. Harry actually finds Snape’s mother (not knowing the relation) in the Quidditch archives and thinks she might be the Half-blood Prince, especially since the hand writing in the book was quite delicate. But digging further he finds she was pure blood so it couldn’t be her.
@@fightingfaerie I just loved the way it was all detailed in the books. We lost so much in translation. I know the movies can't possibly get it all...but I'm still sad about it 🤣

But his inside knowledge really made his performance stand out among the other actors that didn't get the inside poop!
This movie cut out a lot of important information on Voldemort when Harry and Dumbledore were using the pensive especially when they theorized what Voldemort was using as his horxruces. In the book, they identified the diary from Chamber of Secrets, the locket and ring as horcruxes. In one memory they saw Voldemort meeting with an old woman who had both the locket and a cup that belonged to her ancestor Helga Hufflepuff, one of the founders of Hogwarts. Dumbledore revealed that the lady died two days after she showed both items to Voldemort. From there, Harry and Dumbledore theorized that Voldemort may have also had an artifact that belonged to Hogwarts founder Rowena Ravenclaw and Dumbledore also suspected that Voldemorts snake Nagini was also a Horcrux. There was also a memory that Dumbledore showed Harry where Voldemort returned to Hogwarts to apply for the teaching position of Defense Against The Dark Arts. Dumbledore turned him down and from that day, Dumbledore hasn't been able to keep a teacher in that position for more than a year because Voldemort jinxed the position. Hence why there's a different teacher in every book/movie.
Every movie starting with the third began cutting out major details, removing subplots and changing things for no reason. So disappointing they couldn't get people to do the books right.
When I saw this in the theaters and they had Katie up in the air and all the sound was just gone except for the ominous wind and she looked like she was screaming in agony while hanging there?? I got chills. The effect of removing all sound except the chilling wind and then suddenly bringing it back when she falls to the ground. VERY well done.
I will forever be angry they took that out when they added a scene that has no purpose that wasn’t in the books. Adding or changing things is fine. Creating an entire event that never happened? Stupid. Then they have the nerve to cut Dumbledore’s funeral on top of that
It will always be such an amazing part of the books. When I read the funeral scene. I could see it in my mind. And was hoping to see it in real life. It was beautiful in the books.
I remember when this book came out. My brother went into the city and queued at midnight to get us both copies. I woke up at 6am and read it straight through for the entire day only to have my heart broken at the end. Core reading memory for me! Side note; the music in this movie is beautiful.

I was yelling at the book at 3am and i woke up my dad. 😂 It was my first experience with major character death, and i unintentionally did the exact same thing years later with the 3rd ASOIAF. Only it was 4am. 😂
One interesting thing to note that doesn't get mentioned in this movie or the last one, that I LOVE telling people watching for the first time is that Bellatrix and Malfoy's mom Narcissa are sisters. And so is the mother of Tonks, the woman who shape shifts her hair and face randomly and is in the Order. Her mother Andromeda, along with Bellatrix and Narcissa are siblings from the Black family. This makes Tonks and Draco cousins, and since Bellatrix and Sirius are cousins, that means Sirius and Draco were related as well. (The whole family tree is scattered with relatives to other families.)
Isn't it shown on the Black Family Tree in OotP? I know they don't say it but there is that scene where they show that Sirius is related to Draco. I don't remember how clear it is that it's because Narcissa and Bella are sisters.
Coming from someone who also hated reading books, I would open up an Audible account and listen to the whole Harry Potter book series. You can have it playing in the background while you're driving or editing videos. You would love it.
@@IcanhearClemFandango Audible is fantastic for long drives. My son is on the spectrum and will not fly, so each year when we visit my family in New England (we live in Texas), it takes about 26 hours to get there so Audible has saved my sanity. When the actor who played Neville (Matthew Lewis) had his glow up, people were upset because the character was supposed to be pudgy and awkward, but Matthew Lewis actually became really attractive lol.
The books get more into it, but the fifth book/film has set it up that Harry can make mistakes, fatal ones in the case of Sirius. This book/film has others questioning him throughout, in light of his having been mistaken the previous year. It just so happens that he is correct this time, though, so they need to start trusting him after this book/movie. And, in fact, “Trust Harry” is said a few times there.
There are scenes in the books I wish I’d seen in this film because they were among my favorite. First, Dumbledore picks Harry up from the Dursley house, not a cafe, and he shamed them heavily in the process. Second, Dumbledore’s funeral is so touching and bittersweet.
Third: quidditch matches, especially when Harry got detention from Snape so Ginny was the seeker and after that match what happened in the common room... And Harry+Ginny's relationship after that...
I am never going to get over the fact that this is not explained. They pick the weirdest but also some of the most important things to decide "nah we don't need to explain that." Her excitement over it at the beginning is exactly why that was a silly decision.
Slughorn's dinner parties are for "Slug Club" members only; students he picks himself either because they are related to someone famous or influential, or because he sees them as talented in their own right. Neville was invited because his parents were aurors, Hermione was invited because she's clever/such a good student, Ginny was invited because Slughorn saw her perform a very impressive "bat-bogey" hex, and Harry, well Harry's Harry Potter.
One of the problems I have with this film is how it departs in a big way from the book because when Harry is in the tower with Dumbledore Snape doesn’t know Harry is there because he has the cloak of invisibility.

The Unbreakable Vow meant Snape had to do whatever Draco was charged to do and if he didn't he dies. If you recognize the stakes of the vow, you have to figure Snape was locked into killing Dumbledore. Try to keep a careful eye as to his own motives and goals. Though you now know he's the Half-Blood Prince (half wizard, half muggle), there's more to know.
Voldemort's curse on the disguised Deathly Hallow would've killed Dumbledore anyway. Since Snape managed to contain the curse to Dumbledore's hand, he asked Snape to kill him when the time comes to avoid Draco being burdened with carrying out to completion Voldemort's task. The Unbreakable Vow was contingency. What Voldemort didn't take into account was Harry disarming Draco after Malfoy had disarmed Dumbledore.

Speaking of Dumbledore dying - at the midnight premiere of the book, with people still waiting in line to get it, some dickwad bought the book, read the ending, and shouted "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE!" at people as he was driving pas them, spoiling the ending.

Professor Dumbledore's death was one of the most traumatic for Harry to witness. Right alongside his parents' murder at the hands of Voldemort when he was a year-old toddler, Cedric at the hands of Wormtail during the last task of the Triwizard Tournament in that graveyard, and Sirius dying by falling into the Veil in the Ministry of Magic. Also, for some convoluded reason, they omitted an explanation of what a bezoar is in the movies (despite the deleted scene in Philosopher's/Sorcerer's Stone): Bezoars are stones taken from the stomachs of goats that are used to cure most poisons, which is what Harry did with Ron.
Listen, when that thing popped out of the water in the cave I jumped SO HARD in the theatre, but my friends laughed and said it wasn't scary. So thank you for freaking out like a normal person lol
Oh my goodness it's so fun to watch your reactions to these Harry Potter movies. My granddaughters (cousins the same age) had me get them the books as they came out and of course, they had to go to all the movies. After the last movie, they gifted me the stack of books and informed me I needed to read them all so that I would know the whole story. What an amazing adventure so much more in-depth than the movies. Love movies and books both.
Using my "comment" metric to support you with a simple comment. This is the best reaction that you've done, imo. I guess seeing "noobs" to HP watch this stuff is magic. I wish I could go back without knowing things and see how things play out. The fact that you didn't know that Dumbledore died? Chef's kiss. It's rare to get a "Hey, I've never seen this popular movie before" when they have and they know that it's just metrics/analytics/algorithms is refreshing.
One thing I hated about the movies was them leaving out VERY important information. Like in the third one they left out that it was Harry’s father and friends who created the Marauder’s Map. That’s how Sirius could get into the castle, he knew all the entrances. In the sixth one it was why Snape was called the half blood prince. Because his Mother’s maiden name was Prince. She was a witch, his father a muggle. And don’t even get me started on the climax of the final film… ugh. Was THAT ever mishandled!
The biggest mistake in adapting the books was in this one, where Kloves left out the entire Gaunt storyline, as well as Riddle stealing the Hufflepuff cup and locket. Knowing those are desirable objects for Riddle and are therefore potential Horcruxes is really important for the rest of the series. That’s the main reason I rank this towards the bottom of the films.
So much is but I think, as a reader, you simply have to see the films as a completely different entity and enjoy them for their own sake. My biggest bugbear is that Harry's eyes are blue in the films and his hair is always neat and tidy. The two whole physical points about Harry are he has his mother's vivid green eyes and his father's messy hair that will never lay down at the back no matter what. They could EASILY have incorporated that into the films, it's just hair and makeup, and it enraged me for years but I realised I was just winding myself up for no reason. The films are made, they won't change, we have the books so let's keep them as separate things and enjoy them both❤️
Daniel Radcliffe was allergic to the green contacts, they ultimately asked JKR about it and she said that it didn't matter THAT much that Harry has blue eyes, instead of green. They also had Emma wear false teeth on the first day of shooting, it was not carried on the second day because she had trouble speaking clearly with them
There are so many things that got left out of the movies and if I were the one shrinking the books into movies I would have done it differently. Personally, I’m still annoyed that they ruined Dumbledore’s first speech in the first movie! That was honestly the moment I went from liking the books to loving them because it was so funny it made laugh out loud! It is very hard to do a book justice when you try to make a movie out of it so I just have to mentally enjoy them each as their own thing and try not to get too annoyed.
I am impressed that you figured out right off the bat that it was Sirius's brother (Regulus) who first found the locket. Well done! I even read the books and didn't figure that out until the next one came out.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is at the Universal parks and the recipe for butterbeer is a SUPER SECRET RECIPE SPECIALLY CRAFTED BY A WORLD RENOWNED AWARD-WINNING CHEF SPECIFICALLY AND EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE WIZARDING WORLD THEME PARKS it's cream soda butter and butterscotch syrup. Half blood = someone who has 1 magical parent and 1 muggle parent. Mudblood= a DEROGATORY name for someone that both parents are muggles. The appropriate namenfor that would be muggle born.
@@txheadshots Voldemort was also half-blood, despite his hatred for muggles, making him and Harry equals (Harry was also half-blood). Ironically, Neville was a pure-blood, which is what Voldemort desired, though he dismissed Neville as below him.
Hell yeah!!! Great news Ashleigh!! Looking forward to the next ones!! And then I'll be able to binge all your reactions to the Harry Potter movies and see your developement towards them!! ;)
Sigma does a very good job summing up the important details the movie leaves out. Our heroic trio is much further along the trail for horcruxes than the movie shows. Yes, the movies have done Ginny dirty. Recall she was originally afraid to even talk to Harry, because she had such a crush on him. Then again, they've also ignored Kreacher, and how Harry treats him in contrast to how Sirius did, and the rivalry between Kreacher & Dobby (whose part was also cut out of the past several movies). ... You've made some very insightful leaps watching these movies. It's fun watching your face when that happens. :)
In Snape's defense, he made that magical unbreakable vow to kill Dumbledore if Draco couldn't do it so he didn't actually have a choice at that point. He was magically compelled to do it. I think his expression after he did it shows that he was really upset about what he had just done.
Paul Gunderson. Delete this since it’s a HUGE spoiler. Goodness sake how hard is it to NOT reveal a major plot point before the reactor finishes the series. It is that important to prove how much you know?
I don't recall how well they explain it in the films, but the unbreakable vow will kill the one who made it if the vow is not fulfilled. If Snape hadn't done it, he would have died. Again, call Snape an awful person for having made the vow if anything, but he was forced to make a choice. Can't wait to see your reaction to the last two films!
Ross Hall. My comment was not directed at you. It was for Paul Gunderson who responded to your initial comment with a big spoiler. I can only hope Ashleigh did not see it before it was deleted.
Snape's mother's maiden name was PrInce, who was a witch that was disowned from her wizarding family for marrying a muggle. His father was a muggle making him a half blood.
The potions book that Harry stumbles upon originally belonged to a pureblood Slytherin witch student, Eileen Prince. She later married a muggle, Tobias Snape. Apparently, it wasn't a particularly happy household for half-blood born Severus. Worse still, at Hogwarts he was none too popular outside Slytherin house, least of all with Gryffindor students like James Potter and his friends. However, he was very inventive in his own spells (albeit dark ones like Sectumsempra) and potion ingredients that he wrote in his mother's book. And just like Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot and Prongs, Severus came up with his own alter ego, "Half Blood Prince." But there's a LOT more to the Prince's tale that will be hinted on in Deathly Hallows part I, and fully revealed in part 2.
So, an interesting thing that I had pointed out in another video: Snape's Avada Kadavar spell didn't directly kill Dumbledore. Even "Moody" in the previous movie said that in order for an unforgivable curse to work, you have to truly mean it. He even said that every student in the classroom could cast the spell at him that moment, and it would have no effect, because they wouldn't have it in their hearts to kill him. So, Dumbledore pretty much let it knock him back, and it wasn't until he hit the ground that he died - after all, Harry was in a full body bind from Dumbledore until he'd landed... so the spell was active until the wizard that had cast it died. It's kind of nuts, though, isn't it?
@@passenthrualaska3293 Not really? I mean, the look on Snape's face in that scene isn't someone who wanted to do that. Plus, you see Dumbledore alive as he is falling, rather than being instantly killed. Heck, it isn't until he strikes the ground that the petrificus totalis spell breaks, which is evidence that, even though Snape hit him with the spell, it wasn't the spell that killed Dumbledore.
@@Drake844221 I never said that the scene didn't have clues that some people might pick up on or realize were there after the fact. I was impressed with the initial's thing. I'm sorry if you disagree, but I consider it a spoiler to point it out to them instead of giving them more time to stew on it for themselves, or simply finding out when it is reviled in story.

Alan Rickman told the story about when he met J.K. Rowling to discuss his role as "Snape". He wanted to know what Spape's true motivation was and the story behind his antagonization towards Harry and his Father. She told him and he swore to secrecy. But his inside knowledge really made his performance stand out among the other actors that didn't get the inside poop!

@@afry6400 yeah he was the one that put the fart machine in Harry's sleeping bag
I was pregnant when this book came out and still remember bawling like a baby through Dumbledore's funeral, which they sadly left out of the movies.
Its easily the best book of the series. The movie not as much, but man the book is utterly amazing. Shame Ginny didnt get the respect she was due.

The best part about that night were (sorry book readers) the spoiler videos at bookstores. The classic "Snape Kills Dumbledore" video is a masterpiece
Ashleigh's rendition of the avadakedavah meme is spot on.
That's called INBREEDING.
"Puberty hit Neville like a truck". Oh boy, Ashleigh is going to lose her mind if she looks up pictures of Neville's actor, Matthew Lewis.
Hence the term “Neville Long-bottomed.”
Coming from someone who also hated reading books, I would open up an Audible account and listen to the whole Harry Potter book series. You can have it playing in the background while you're driving or editing videos. You would love it.
Most all libraries have the HP series on audiobooks, so you can use an app to check them out for free.
I love to read, but I use audible for driving or while walking my dog.
Oh yes .. definitely! I always tell people to read the books, I'm a reader so it comes naturally...but audible is such a good idea!!!!!
@Jared Lackey I'm the same 🙂
@@IcanhearClemFandango Audible is fantastic for long drives. My son is on the spectrum and will not fly, so each year when we visit my family in New England (we live in Texas), it takes about 26 hours to get there so Audible has saved my sanity. As others have said, local libraries usually have them as well, the only trick there is that you have to wait for them to be "returned" even when they're digital.
Harry was subtle as a freight train when approaching Slughorn, lmao.
When the actor who played Neville (Matthew Lewis) had his glow up, people were upset because the character was supposed to be pudgy and awkward, but Matthew Lewis actually became really attractive lol.
It’s a lad going from puberty to manhood. Especially the last movie he was awesome.
Oooh Ashleigh you've got to get to the last two films as your next 2 reactions! You can't leave a gap now! It's too exciting
Luna has to be my all-time favorite character I love her
Her lion hat before the Quidditch match caught me so off guard. Didn't notice her sitting there until she spoke.
“What magic bullsh*t is happening now?” Literally sums up the entire series! 😂😂😂
Snape's mother's maiden name was Prince, and he's a half blood (his father was a muggle).
I am never going to get over the fact that this is not explained. They pick the weirdest but also some of the most important things to decide "nah we don't need to explain that." Her excitement over it at the beginning is exactly why that was a silly decision.
And it would have taken a couple seconds
Dracos mom , Helen McCrory, plays Polly Gray in Peaky Blinders , and Evelyn Poole in Penny Dreadful. Great actress .
She passed away a couple of years ago. Her husband was Damian Lewis.
She was amazing, I was devastated when she passed
Thank you, I couldn’t place her, I never tweaked to Peaky Blinders. Love her.
Im glad you got to this point and it wasn't spoiled for you that Dumbledore died.

I don't know how interested people on this channel are in Dr Who, but I would just like to mention that the actor who played Dean Thomas, Ginny's short term beau, was Alfie Enoch, the son of British actor William Russell, who is best known for playing Ian Chesterton, the first male companion when Dr Who started in 1963.
The list of British actors that appeared in Doctor Who is not short..
@@scottlyttle5586 I know. Heck, even a muggle like Dudley was the grandson of Patrick Troughton. Alfie was just the only one I saw in this video, and fresh after seeing his dad i Power of the Daleks too. :D

Hell, I only noticed the mention of Regulus this time around, and this is like 10+ for me. XD
That's worth a couple pats on the back Ashleigh, god damn.
The whole event in the cave was traumatizing. Seeing this powerful old man be broken down like that
Dumbledore's relationship with the Phoenix is really significant, but won't be explained until well into the Fantastic Beasts series.
Listen, when that thing popped out of the water in the cave I jumped SO HARD in the theatre, but my friends laughed and said it wasn't scary. So thank you for freaking out like a normal person lol

After the last movie, they gifted me the stack of books and informed me I needed to read them all so that I would know the whole story. What an amazing adventure so much more in-depth than the movies. Love movies and books both.
Calling Slughorn Stinkybottom! 🤣

They also had Emma wear false teeth on the first day of shooting, it was not carried on the second day because she had trouble speaking clearly with them
@Cilou6 too bad. They could do it so easy with cgi these days.
Arguably one of your best videos. Can't hardly wait another month for the next HP video
So happy your watching HP again!!!!!
I am impressed that you figured out right off the bat that it was Sirius's brother (Regulus) who first found the locket. Well done! I even read the books and didn't figure that out until the next one came out.

@@txheadshots Voldemort was also half-blood, despite his hatred for muggles, making him and Harry equals (Harry was also half-blood). Ironically, Neville was a pure-blood, which is what Voldemort desired, though he dismissed Neville as below him.

"Still?"
"*Always.*"
I always cry when I see that in the last film.

He reminds me of a young Ben Affleck.
Snape's mother's maiden name was PrInce, who was a witch that was disowned from her wizarding family for marrying a muggle. His father was a muggle making him a half blood.
Seeing the thumbnail we know what we're about to get! As for the sequels... I'd love to see _Child's Play_ or _Terminator_ continue.
been waiting for you to do this one, one of my favorites in the series
Did you put this one before??
Or I'm getting confuse ??
Don't you think discussing Snape's intentions and motives, before they are reveled in story, is a bit spoilery?
@@passenthrualaska3293 Not really? I mean, the look on Snape's face in that scene isn't someone who wanted to do that. Plus, you see Dumbledore alive as he is falling, rather than being instantly killed. Heck, it isn't until he strikes the ground that the petrificus totalis spell breaks, which is evidence that, even though Snape hit him with the spell, it wasn't the spell that killed Dumbledore.
@@Drake844221 I never said that the scene didn't have clues that some people might pick up on or realize were there after the fact. I was impressed with the initial's thing. However, if someone doesn't figure it out for themself, or sincerely ASK for the answer? I'm sorry if you disagree, but I consider it a spoiler to point it out to them instead of giving them more time to stew on it for themselves, or simply finding out when it is reviled in story.
Same goes for confirming, or deigning any theories they have, unless again, they specifically asked for the answer.
