I honestly believe that any major party that promised to reverse Brexit would win the general election.

General election manifestos set out what a party could achieve in four years if they get a majority. Fully reversing Brexit is almost guaranteed to take more than four years, and requires EU support and wider public buy in. I doubt any party could deliver EU membership before the next election or could honestly promise much more than the Lib Dems are promising. 2019 was different, Brexit could still have been cancelled, and if the Lib Dems had won that election outright it would have been. The Public very clearly rejected that option and the Lib Dems are trying to get back to third place in Parliament, partly by reengaging with many former heartlands, including places where the public include many current and former leavers.

It's not normal that volunteers and food banks and heat and cooling centers take the place of government in providing for the general welfare of the public it's supposed to serve and protect - the purpose of government is supposed to be that as the number one priority, not obsessing over small boats. Providing for the general welfare of the people is national security - security as in where is the next meal coming from, or how do you keep from making the choice of freezing to death or going to the doctor and filling your prescriptions? How do you send your kids to school either hungry or with their clothes or shoes too small?

If you are in favour of mass immigration, you are in favour of more traffic on roads , more queues in shops, more crowded beaches and beauty spots in summer, more overcrowding in high streets, more overflowing bins, more sewerage in rivers as more people use water and flush toilets, less free seats on trains, and just generally everything feeling more and more busy with each passing year that this madness carries on for. Oh and less and less countryside as.more and more building needs to be done in a deranged and futile effort to keep up. Sounds like a great future.....

For the last 14 years we have seen the total decimation of pretty much all services. Mental health services, care services, social services, police forces - everything. These were the people that were in between these situations and the GP or the school. The reason people are turning to those places is just simply that there aren't enough people left in place to intervene sooner. Imagine going to a GP for things like this? That's desperation through having nowhere left to go.

The thing about Labour getting a very large majority is that they getting at least 450 seats means getting the vetted and carefully approved 400 or so Starmerites elected. But it also means that fifty Labour MPs get elected who weren't vetted to the standard that would apply for people they hoped would become MPs. Plus the bigger the government majority the more frustrated backbenchers who can't get a ministerial job. So Labour with 450 plus MPs means more and more Labour MPs elected who are likely to cause Starmer trouble.

I'm all for vocational schooling and for it to start earlier for those that show the aptitude for it. As entertaining as it is to hear James say 'He's coming to fix the toilet, he doesn't need to know about MacBeth' of course the basis of academic subjects like literature are to encourage curiosity and critical thought, both of which are important in life as a whole and are useful across the board. When I was at school, which was only shortly after James was, those lessons were less about genuine critical thinking and more about thinking the same way the teacher did, so I do understand that so many can't see the benefit.
Of course literature isn't the only way to learn such skills, which is why the education system needs to be more flexible. Our current focus on academics is hurting our children, our economy and our country.

Three ways the Tories could go that would undermine Starmer. Firstly go for the Muslim vote, apologise for supporting Israel's disproportionate response in Gaza, and promise to support a permanent ceasefire and a two state solution to the Israeli Palestinian conflict. Secondly ditch the war on drugs. Taxing drugs and treating addiction as a medical issue would mean more government revenue and less crime as much of our crime is people raising money to fund an addiction. Thirdly acknowledge that Brexit has made us all poorer, blame it on Farage and promise a more pro business Tory government that would get us back into Europe and defend the right of Brits to retire to the costas.

@@goblinwisdom Starmer is sitting pretty firmly on the centre ground now. The Tories ca't turn things round in two weeks by shifting from agreeing with Farage to agreeing with Starmer. Better to disagree with both, tar all Reform candidates with the links at least some of them have to the far right, and point out that Starmer is a centralist not just a centrist.

The tories can hit Labour, to suppress voters, by pointing out all of the Labour proposals are half or quarter measures, and those measures always get further watered down when they actually become policy, so labour is really mouthing a lot of empty promises. Then cut all the dead weight on the tory side to make an example of to prove you are willing to do more than half measures.

It is also a prison and limiting his ability to communicate to us effectively.. My children will see a lot further than he does.. that makes him less useful than he should be.. Very disappointed..

A constant increase in the size of the population means that with each passing year when your family goes to the beach in the summer, the beach is just that little bit more crowded and its just that little more difficult to find a parking space.
It means that each year that passes there's just that little bit more traffic on the roads, and the queues in the shops are just that little bit longer. Its also just that little bit harder to get a seat on a train on the way home from a long day at work.
Quality of life goes down gradually for everyone already here. Besides do we really want less countryside and wild places as more and more houses, hospitals, roads etc need to be built to keep up, if keeping up is even realistic with current numbers coming in that is.
This really needs to be brought under control before overpopulation gets any worse, if you havn't given this much thought before please think about it properly. The UK already has the highest population it has ever had in its entire history, if you have kids that will grow up here you should be concerned about this.

James, there are greater destinations for people in this life than being a GP or a vet or a lawyer. You need to get your head out of that. Those professions are in real trouble now.. It's time to change the conversation. I can't believe how embedded in that He still is.. that's the old world. It has no relevance now.. those jobs have social status being a vet. That must be amazing. It really isn't.. there are jobs out there that he can't even think of that don't involve going to private school or having an education that you can get involved with right now that are way more exciting and pay better. Don't get lost in this horrible rabbit hole from the olden World.

If you grew up in a family of trades, you can be earning 1,000 pounds a week when you're 16 years old. 90% of being in trades is learning how to deal with the public and all of that kind of thing. You can't teach that you have to be around it.. did you get it? The bullets from Oyster with no boss. If the weather is nice, go on holiday with your family. Do whatever you want free.. there's no price to that
