Dr Doom was the infamous Ironman..... literally perfect 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾💚💚💚🖤🖤🖤, and WHO KNOWS maybe in a different universe this tony survived the snap and was corrupted by the influence of the stones. And I agree Amanda there is no rule that an actor can't comeback to play a different marvel character look at Chris Evans 😂😂🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. My only gripe is that when he plays doom he no one will be able to touch it. That paints marvel creative into a corner to make room for new actors to play the role later on. They are slowly building to the future with their young avengers team and x-23 etc but they are still stuck on the original cast that we all love that are some point EVENTUALLY 😂😂 retire. Either way this was EPIC and like you said genius seeing as how Dr Doom is related to Kang and RDJ is the most celebrated hero in the MCU so why not become his literal counterpart as the most celebrated villain 🙏🏾🙏🏾. If you listen carefully they talk about Dr. Doom but right before they introduce RDJ they say we can think of only one person who can play “VIKTOR VON Doom” not Dr Doom so not a version of Tony Stark.
Luv RDJ & have no doubt he will kill it as Doom, but IMO a desperation move by the MCU …I personally would have preferred Mads Mikkelesen …Staying Nerdy 🖖🏾
The Russo Brothers! I totally understand why everyone is focused on RDJ, but the Russo Brothers coming back to direct is just as important to the MCU. I think the post endgame era has shown us that directors do matter for these films and you can't have just anyone directing them and expect them to be good.
Robert Downey Jr. is hardly the first actor to play multiple roles in these movies. Gemma Chan being the most visible before this. I'm actually excited about this and the Russos have earned my trust. RDJ might be playing a Doom variant with e recast planned after Secret Wars for a potential Fantastic Four sequel.
I am super intrigued. I do think fan theories can overcomplicate this, it could just literally be it'll be RDJ as Doom and there'll be one "Your face looks familiar LOL" type gag. Also he needs to defy Namor and remind him that Dr Doom does as he pleases (Toot).
Will they even show his face? I'm thinking this will be in the FF universe, and then it's someone else later if they do show him in 199999. I'm not calling it 616.

That was supported, IN MY MIND, by Wanda Maximoff's lines of, "Ultron can't tell the difference between saving the world and destroying it. Where do you think he gets that?" As soon as they started the multiverse thing and talks about Doom, I felt it could really and truly be RDJ. It surprised me that they agreed but, not that they did it, if that makes sense. I wrote something about Tony's family settling in Latveria instead of USA, decades or centuries ago, and using a different name (Von Doom), in another universe. Comment too long already though. Can't add that here. Thx to all who read this.
This works on several parallels between the two characters. 1) Both are brilliant engineers. 2) Tony loses parents. Doom loses mother. 3) Iron Legion / Doombots. 4) Head of Stark Industries. Leader of Latveria. It kind of makes sense.
Joe Russo specifically stated that Robert would be playing Victor Von Doom and I'm pretty sure that Variety also reported that it would not be an alternate Tony Stark. Still personally kind of feels like an obvious course correction after the Kang fiasco. RDJ has the acting chops to do this role in his sleep but it just feels too distracting.
I know it's smart from a marketing perspective, I just don't think I'm convinced that it's smart creatively. It Feels very much like a panic move, a backpedal which will be used by bad actors as evidence that the Phase 4 "diversity movies" were mistakes.
Shang-Chi was a hit. Both Black Panthers were hits. And people like Kamala, even if the show and movie were mid. WandaVision was also a hit, and it had diversity. So will Thunderbolts and Cap4. Quantumania was a mess and Secret Invasion sucked, but that had NOTHING to do with diversity. I mean, I'm not a fan of pandering in lieu of good storytelling, but the world is diverse, so of course media will reflect that. It's weird that this is what people choose to complain about these days...
I would say people who want to complain about diversity will do that either way. They don't need an excuse to do that, they will find and make up their own excuses. Hence I'm not too concerned about potential ammunition for them, since it feels like anything can be used as that for them.
