So we are back and this time we have an HUGE ICONIC FILM! Tons of subs asked us this year to check it out so here we are with THE TITANIC from 1997 directed by James Cameron. James Cameron's "Titanic" is an epic, action-packed romance set against the ill-fated maiden voyage of the R.M.S. Titanic; the pride and joy of the White Star Line and, at the time, the largest moving object ever built. She was the most luxurious liner of her era -- the "ship of dreams" -- which ultimately carried over 1,500 people to their death in the ice cold waters of the North Atlantic in the early hours of April 15, 1912. This an absolute fantastic film and Journey and Even Story written by James Cameron this is way ahead of its time given us our real in depth look at what happened to the Titanic

The sunsets were real. They had a hour to get the shots. Titanic is still the best movie to date. A blockbuster that swept the Oscars.
I don't think it swept the Oscars, but it did win 11. I know one win it didn't get was Best Supporting Actress; Gloria Stuart (Old Rose) was nominated, but didn't win.

James Cameron visited the Titanic 33 times to retrieve the underwater footage used at the beginning of this film. It also allowed him to explore the wreck to help with each set of the rebuild. Miniatures, 1/10 sizes, cgi shots, and full size rebuilds (which still exist in CA).

Yes, Mythbusters tested this. Jack COULD have fit on the wall panel with Rose, but it didn't have the buoyancy to support both of them at the same time. It would have floated too low in the water, and they both would have died. It flipped when they both tried to get on and Jack knew it wouldn't support them both so he chose to sacrifice himself to save Rose.
Bruh, if there is one thing I can relate to Rose is that moment when for a second she decided to give up after she acknowledge that Jack is dead. Like she has no one? And in the middle of that situation, its pretty logical for her to just let it go and let herself die with Jack there too.. the sadness, devastation, cold to death, everything.. feels like there is no use to life.. I can relate to that, when someone I love left (passed away). But she finally find her strength because she is a strong lady, and just like Jack said only she can save herself. That moment really hit me hard 😢
The Jesse duo past is that people tried to blame her for Jack dying because she got off the boat but…..Jack would’ve died regardless from saving someone else like the little girl Cora, and when they first started boarding the lifeboats they said “women and children only” plus the part with the “door”……it wasn’t even a door, it was a door frame. They showed Jack trying to climb on top of it with Rose, but it toppled over which should’ve that while there would’ve been enough space for them both…..weight wise, it wouldn’t work.
@@tiamarrow6366 Yes even slightly submerged in that water due to the weight would get you killed. Went to the Titanic museum in Tennessee where you can dip your hand into water the same temps. I kept my hand in the water for 10 seconds and it felt frozen for a like half hour. I couldn't imagine your entire body.

What’s funny is that as many Oscars as this movie won, it lost out to best actor and actress to As Good As It Gets. Helen Hunt beat out Kate Winslet for best actress and Jack Nicholson won best actor as usual lol

So basically Jack would not have been able to fit at all. A lot of people forget that Jack and Rose had already been in the water so much before the ship actually sank. When Rose rescued Jack from that room near the bottom of the ship, when they tried to rescue the little boy who was left behind at the bottom of the ship, when they had to use the keys to get through the gated door just to get upstairs, as well as when they ran away from Cal when he started shooting at them….all of those moments they were in the water and that water was freezing cold and all of those scenes except for when they ran from Cal which was only a couple of seconds….the rest of those water scenes were like 10-15 possibly 20 minutes of their bodies partially submerged in the water which had them very fatigued. Now, the “door” that’s been in this whole debate wasn’t an actual door, it was a door frame from one of the first class lounges. Size wise, yes both Jack and Rose could’ve gotten onto it because there was enough room however weight and buoyancy wise in order for them to have both survived, the door frame would’ve needed to be completely lifted above the water…..and considering how soaking wet, and freezing they both were, they would’ve eventually taken on water thus freezing to death and drowning. Some people even miss the part when they show Jack trying to climb on top of it, but it topples over. Myth Busters even did a show on this to prove that Jack wouldn’t have been able to fit.
There’s a deleted scene of Jack and Lovejoy fighting after Cal gives up trying to chase them and shoot them. I forgot why it was deleted

@@nsasupporter7557yes and another deleted scene shows a man swimming towards Jack and Rose after the sinking. He wants to get on the door with Rose and Jack tells him "Its just enough for this lady, you'll push it under."
And the deleted scene of Carpathia rescuing survivors from lifeboats shows us how weak Rose actually was. They had to help her to get aboard and she was barely holding on, she tried to stand up on her own and immediately collapsed into a woman's arms.
There was enough space, the problem was the buoyancy. In order to stay alive you have to stay above the freezing water. Both Jack and Rose were already exhausted and freezing from their previous stay in the cold water. The doors with Rose were already partially submerged. Their weights together would sink the door, they would be exposed to the freezing water and die of hypothermia. James Cameron himself made his own experiment to answer the door question once for all.

I'm 44yrs old, and in hindsight, its a different feeling when you acknowledge that you lived when the "mystery of Titanic" was still a mystery, and watching the pieces of history come together over decades "til it was "Solved".
Many of the main characters were fictionalized but many of the surrounding characters were actually passengers on the Titanic. If you look up a picture of the actual captain, the actor looks exactly like him!

James invented Jack and rose so they can show every part of the ship possible. Without the love story why would you need to see where the car was - the jail - where the rich people spent their time - and where the poor people spent their time - how the language difference killed a lot of people and just so many other things. James spent a lot of time trying to get everything he could think of within 3 hours. Did an incredible job
Cameron also had been down to see it several times. He took Paxton with him on some of the trips. Glad he got to do it before he passed.

The way this movie had 8 year old me in tears my first time hearing of it was when my sister showed me the music video to heart will go on by Celine dion and then going to goodwill one day and seeing the cover and saying i gotta get this tape ended up crying and rewatching the whole day with my cousins😂😂
35:00 The whole "Jack could have fit" was only true for the surface area, which was irrelevant.
Shoirt version: The problem was weight and balance.
TL;DR version: With balance, there was a deleted scene showing Jack making multiple attempts to climb on the door, with it flipping over each time. Even if he could have got on, there's the weight Kate Winslet was 185lbs (nothing wrong with that either), but regarding the problem, had Jack been successful in climbing on the door, that would have been an ADDITIONAL 160lbs. And that's their weight while in dry clothes. So...give or take 350lbs load-bearing down on whatever the bouyancy of that door was. The liklihood is that their combined weight would swamp the door (pushing it a few inches below the water's surface), killing them both. Jack realized this, and stayed in the water so that Rose had a chance at survival.

The Titanic was not the first boat of this size, the Olympic was pretty much the same boat exactly except some detailling. And the captain of the titanic was the previous captain of the Olympic.
Nah, James Cameron last year did experiments and showed that two people couldn't fit. He tried every which way to get them on the board with stunt people and every time the board either sank or flipped over.he debunked people saying they both could fit

Yes, I loved it when we saw it when I was 10 when it came out in 97. But looking back on it now, it was a little overrated. Not by much though, it was a beautifully made movie regardless

On the 11th April, she received 6 warnings from ships stopped in, or passing through, heavy ice, 5 more on the 12th, 3 more on the 13th, and 7 on the 14th.
They received about 21 warnings that they chose to ignore. 😢
That's a myth, they didn't actually ignore the ice warnings. Titanic's course was altered 60nm further South into the Southern Seaways, in order to point the ship into an area of ocean where NO ice warnings were coming from. They just happened to meet the only lone iceberg that drifted further South from Greenland that year.
They changed course to south route based on the warnings, and none other had bergs in their direct path. The warnings of the exact icefield Titanic encountered didn't reach the bridge.

@@pc_buildyb0i935 the north route already had heavy ice pack. That's why they took the south route which was expected to have less icebergs. A rare phenomenon previous year bought icebergs into this route , which already should've melted before reaching there.
This ice pack was unexpected in this route and the warnings of this specific ice pack didn't reach the bridge. The messages got mixed up in the backlog of messages created due to Marconi apparatus repair earlier that day.

James Cameron himself tested whether Jack could have fit on the door, took their Jack stand-in down to clinical hypothermia and had him swim, “punch” an actor etc to simulate the exhaustion. He still could have climbed up…
But the added weight caused the door to sink a bit and their lower halves would have been in the water. It’s possible they both would have survived even with their bodies half in the water… but Cameron says they Jack couldn’t know that, and wanted to give Rose the absolutely best chance of survival possible by making sure her entire body was out of water.
One of my Mother's grand uncle or something was about to travel to New York on the board of Titanic but he missed the ship. About the movie: The score is one of the best ever made for a film. The diving scenes in in the wreckage are real. This must be pretty close to how it actually was like to be on board while the ship sank. This is one of the two movies ever got 11 Oscars. The other one included one actor from this one: Bernard Hill (Captain Smith). The other is the one and only: The Lord of the Rings - The Return of the King.
One Of The Best Romance Movies ever right here the movie that made Leonardo DiCaprio a household name and a Hollywood Heartthrob in the 90s he did a good job at playing his role and Kate Winslett was even better as Rose James Cameron did a Amazing Job considering he directed wrote produced it I love the effects of the Titanic going down and I also loved how we saw how the whole ordeal went from different perspectives in the movie just seeing how everyone handled the situation and even the different classes so yeah this one of those movies that you know what’s gonna happen but you wish it doesn’t and it makes it sad
Leo was already those things. It was "Romeo & Juliet" that really put him on the map and Titanic increased and cemented it. However, I would argue that the movie benefited more from him being in it than the other way around. There was really no other young actor with his ability and recognition at the time. His name on the cast list meant something.

James Cameron has many trips down to titanic, it was actual footage of the real titanic. This movie is incredibly accurate in many ways. I would highly suggest you watch the video tour of the titanic museum in Tennessee, you will be blown away
Inaccuracies too
The beginning is all real footage. Bill Paxton actually went to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean to see the Titanic and shoot this scene. James Cameron has seen the Titanic 33x, and has even been to the bottom Mariana trench...in the Challenger Deep section of trench. That's the lowest point on earth: 35,876 feet deep. Put it this way, Titanic sits at 12,500ft deep. The Mariana trench is almost three 3x deeper
To answer your question, yes they found some of the people frozen. The Mackey Bennette recovered a bunch of bodies, and there were reports from other ships that came across a body here or there, every once in a little while.
Saw Titanic last February for the first time (25 year anniversary re-release).
I finally understood why it made over *two billion* dollars back in 1998.
I went back to see it again just two days later in Dolby Cinema. Saw it three more times over the following two weeks.
I had the exact same experience with Avatar just a few months prior, back in December, 2022. Saw that movie three times, then saw Avatar 2 *seven* times when it came out.

The movie doesn't really mention this...but the two guys in charge of the transponders, Harold Bryde and John Phillips were responsible for sending out the distress signal..otherwise the ship would never been found
Not only that, but the Marconi instrument had died on them and even though they were under strict orders from the Marconi company NOT to attempt to repair it themselves, they repaired it anyway so they could get ahead on all their work.
The suicide, holding 3rd class from the boats, the extreme angles of the sinking, and the explanation for fewer boats are some examples of dramatization.
Titanic was the biggest ship ever set sail in 1912 and Titanic had 2 sister ships one was lost in world War 1 it was used in a war as a hospital ship it hit a under water bomb she's at the bottom laying on her side and other one was retired in 1935 with 24 years service Olympic and britannic is the one lost at war.
Not the biggest, but the largest in terms of displacement. Both Titanic and Britannic were the same length and Olympic was the same width, with Britannic having been 2ft wider.

in case this wasnt scary enough I'd like to point out that many people were killed by the very life vests intended to protect them. Those vests were filled with cork, one of the heaviest yet also most buoyant substances on earth. Due to the insane buoyancy (combined with weight and in a vest design that had flaps) many people who fell into the water had their jaws and noses broken and necks snapped. Pretty much anyone who fell into the water from a height as little as five feet would have their own life vest come slamming up into their faces and necks. So all those people falling and jumping from the ship were pretty much wrecked by those vests and either killed instantly or incapacitated to the point where survival was highly unlikely. And for an added tid bit, most people froze to death with in 5 to 10 minutes. The rough wait time between the ship vanishing and the life boat returning was, I'd say, 25 to 35 minutes. Completely understandable that most people assume a significant amount of time passed before the boat returned, but knowing how short a persons life in the chilling water would be makes it more terrifying.

When the Titanic sailed there actually wasn't that much fan fair (not until after she sunk) because her virtually identical sister ship the Olympic had its maiden voyage the summer before in June 1911. So when the Titanic set sail for the first time the next spring it was kind of old news by then.
There was indeed fanfare. Titanic had unique interiors from Olympic (which were both fancier and more massive) and weighed just a bit more as a result - so the Titanic was heralded as both larger (in the sense of displacement) and more luxurious.
@@pc_buildyb0i935 I understand that and I didn't say there was no fanfare at all.. it had larger covered promenade decks, some expanded first class suites, the Cafe Perisien was made larger, etc making Titanic technically speaking the largest ship based on tonnage.. but length, width, height and mostly everything else she was identical to Olympic. The general public wasn't exactly freaking about the changes.. there was absolutely a lot of 'been there done that' mentality. The Olympic's maiden voyage and subsequent crossings had FAR more fanfare. The Titanic was still an amazing ship for sure.. but at lot about what people know or think they know has very much been romanticized because of it sinking and the circumstances around how it sunk.

This is one of my favorite films for a number of reasons, one of them being the writing. James Cameron was brilliant with things I didn't catch as a kid (I'm 33). For example, at the dinner scene Jack's note to Rose "Make It Count, Meet Me At the Clock". Rose lived her life and did all the things she talked about with Jack, as displayed through her photos at the end. Her Promise she made him in the water, was a promise Kept. When he died she made her life count. When she died, she met him at the clock. Damn you James Cameron!!! ughh .
Also, the the symbolism. Her dropping the diamond into the ocean at the end was symbolic, rather than literal, as it also never really existed. To Cal, it was a symbol of wealth, his most valuable object used as a claim of ownership of the woman he placed it on. It collared Rose as his property. It never mattered to Rose how much money the necklace was worth, because it was the representation of what was chaining her to a life of being the property of an abusive man.
Her own choices are what gave it value to her. She let Jack sketch her wearing only the necklace as a farewell gift with the petty note "now you can keep us both locked in your safe". That's why it was placed back in the safe, she never planned to keep the necklace. While Cal saw the necklace as a symbol of wealth, Rose returned the gift and a visual of what she looked like (remember he intended for her to wear it for their engagement party). After the sinking, the necklace she discovered in her pocket became a symbol of the poor, amazing artist/man that made her realize her life was a blank canvas. It became a reminder of the short time they had together, that changed her life irrevocably. It wasn't valuable because it was a rare, expensive piece of jewelry, but instead because it was the part of him/the picture she never had of Jack. In essence, it was her heart that she had given to Jack and so she did what she promised, she never let it go.
At the end, when she gives the diamond back to the ocean, she's letting her heart join Jack's at the end of her life. It descended into the depths where it would have ended up if she had died with him that night, because to her, the life she had was the priceless gift he left her with, which was much more valuable than a diamond.

I can maybe understand him misstating the title as "The Titanic", instead of "Titanic", but then he still does it again at the end.
Visited the Titanic museum in Tennessee the other day where they have a replica of the grand staircase you can walk up. To give you foks some perspective, 18:31doesn't feel as large as it really does. Above you is a circular balcony that goes around the the room. It feels a lot more intimate than it does open in the movie.

alot of people dont know but there was a huge ship floating less than 19 miles away called the California. Some of the crew members were in dip shit for not responding to the fireworks the titanic was sending. Alot of the survivors saw the lights of the California
Titanic is the second of three sister ships; RMS Olympic, RMS Titanic, and HMHS Britannic. All three ships were involved in collisions that resulted in the loss of life, two of them sunk (Britannic remains the largest passenger wreck on the ocean floor). With the cold, calm, moonless night, it was so dark that Titanic's lookouts saw the iceberg as the absence of horizon in front of the ship. The multiple eyewitness who saw Titanic break up on the surface were shouted down in hearings on both sides of the Atlantic. Both hearings concluded that Titanic sank intact.
Olympic's collision with Hawke did not result in any deaths, and the survivors who testified the ship broke apart were not shouted down at the British or American Board of Trade hearings, they were simply ignored following their testimonies.
The White Star Line didn't want people to think they had shoddy craftsmanship with their vessels, so they didn't want to anyone to believe the ship broke in half.

Portrayal of owner Ismay and suiciding officer Murdoch, Captain Smith ignoring warnings and walking scared, 3rd class being locked up below, last sighting of Thomas Andrews and Captain Smith', all are dramatizations.
Captain Smith did ignore ice warnings, and there is testimony of Ismay and Smith discussing the ship’s speed and boilers, though the details are scarce. The last scene of Thomas Andrews was based on testimony too, though, it’s likely that Thomas Andrews was just gathering himself before heading back into the fray, as he was last seen on deck

Ismay Smith conversation is always exaggerated and spread. Actual conversation, according to Elizabeth Lines and Ismay, was Ismay discussing about Titanic's perfomance and comparing it to Olympic. He proposed a speed test. He wanted to see if Titanic could beat Olympic's crossing time she made on her maiden voyage. Titanic was already doing good than Olympic. Ismay was notified by Harland and Wolff that Titanic might be slightly faster than Olympic, most probably due to the increased pitches adjusted to the 3 bladed center propeller.
Ismay wanted to test it. He wanted to see if Titanic would reach New York by Tuesday night.

@@gokulgopan4397 the single ended boilers in room one were only intended to be used in port for power generation and heating/refrigeration. They were the ones that were lit whenever you saw smoke coming from only the third stack. Though they could be connected to the main steam lines for the engines, I agree. It just wasn’t their intended purpose.

@@gokulgopan4397 also the Californian’s ice warning was both conversational in tone and lacked the MSG prefix. The MSG (master service gram) prefix indicates a message that must be delivered to the master (captain). I am unsure of Mesaba’s.
If the Californian had used the MSG prefix, it would have changed the tone of the message from “hey, bro, I got stuck by ice. Bad luck. How ya doin?” To “Tell your captain we are stuck by ice and it sounds like you are nearby.”

A lot of the beginning under water footage is real footage. James Cameron have dove to the Titanic I believe 33 times. A few of them were done specifically for the movie. The under water scenes from the exterior of the ship is 100% real but some of the interior room shots were a flooded set. That’s why having a tested and industry standard built submersible is important lol. You don’t have to worry about implosion, just have to worry about getting snagged on something down there and getting stuck.
I know it’s a film and it’s a reaction channel but when you can see your girlfriend is upset and wants to be immersed in the moment, learn to shut up for a minute 😂😂 I feel like she was holding back tears because you were talking too much 😅

They weren't able to find half of the bodies. Once they froze a lot of them drifted away or sank. Plus by the time the boat went back to claim bodies tgey could get them all. From what I remember from the documentry

Loved JC's Titanic and I will highly recommend "A Night to Remember" (1958) to you two, if you are interested in another Titanic film. It's just as great but it will focus more on the historical aspects than Cameron's take.

The titanic underwater is real footage, and it was found by mistake during a training exercise, and the guy that was part of crew that found the titanic died in the oceangate sub, and to two old people cudding in the bed as it sinks is based off real people that happens to be the great grand parents of Rush's wifes that gave up their seats when everyone was trying to escape the ship, to poor people
So most of the movie was shot using sets in water tanks that could be flooded. The water could not be heated because it gave off steam so all the actors were acting in cold water. Leo said he never do a film like this again because he hates cold water.
