Alan Rickman knew Snape's motivation from Rowling from the start of filming even though just 4 books were written at the time. He never revealed what she told him and even refused directors orders because of it, he held onto his promise not reveal what he was told even after the films were finished. He played Snape brilliantly, in retrospect there are so many subtle expressions, gestures and nuances to Snape that suggest there is more to him that meets the eye, something that simply could not be done in the books because it would give too much away. Snape is one of the most complex and surprising character in literature and even so much more in film thanks to the great Alan Rickman.

This right here is why rewatching and seeing all of snape's scenes with harry is so magical-- and Alan knew that would happen. Instead of the random switch up, you could always see Snape holding something back, always tell he cared more than he let on. Alan Rickman was a great actor-- nobody else could have ever played snape in my mind.

    • @TheClassicWorld
      @TheClassicWorld Год назад +28

I wouldn't say one of the most complex characters in literature. You must not have read enough literature.
But, certainly one of the most complex characters in mainstream cinema, and one of the best. I'd say maybe the second best, most profound 'anti-heroes' in all of fiction, though maybe it's more like 3rd or something. Easily the best British example, right along aside Moore's Watchmen (if we count this as British -- under DC, an American company).
Rickman was perfect and, yes, he knew all about Snape from early on.

@@TheClassicWorld @Classic World I agree mostly (I have been bookworm since childhood actually 😏) but I still think Snape's arch is unique because for 7 books and tausends of pages he is mostly suspected as a vilian, with doubts, but negatively overall, then he is a murderer and traitor until suddenly at the end of the 7th book there's a nearly 180° turn explaining his actions in a completely different light from the very beginning. That's pretty unique in my opinion...

It wasn't from the start.... He wanted to quit the franchise and Rowling gave him this piece of info to keep him there. Once Alan Rickman was told this crucial information he knew it was very important to stay in this role and really connected to it.

Snape didn’t love Lily. He was infatuated with her and saw her as a possession. You don’t truly love someone if you are willing to betray her husband and son and then have no remorse for it asking only that Voldemort spare Lily for him but having no care whatsoever that James and Harry would die. He’s an incel who was always selfish and the only reason he switched sides was to get revenge against Voldemort for selfish reasons. He never renounced his old way of thinking or showed remorse for the terrible things he’d done. He was upset because the woman he simped over who didn’t love him and told him she wanted no part of him because of how despicable he was got killed. He never ever actually cared for Harry and always resented him because he was part of James and made him jealous. Even at the end when Dumbledore asks “even after all this time don’t tell me you have come to care for the boy” he flat out says “no” and then produces the patronus of a doe showing his obsession with Lily. If he truly loved Lily he would care for Harry and love him because it’s the last part of her. He was brutally mean to Harry and it wasn’t cause he was “hiding it”. There was never a reason to “hide it.” He was a murderer, bigot, and torturer who bullied children mercilessly. Making fun of a 12 year olds girl’s (hermione) teeth to pick out one of her insecurities and break her down so much so that she felt like she had to magically alter her appearance permanently and for one of your students biggest fear in the world to be you when said student (Neville) has actually experienced other true horrors like with what happened to his parents is disgusting. He’s a grown adult verbally and mentally abusing children. Snape is a loathsome and vile person and deserved much worse than he got. He is a small small man and I hate that people think he was a hero. He wasn’t. Everything he did was for himself and no one else and some of those selfish deeds happened to help the good side but that doesn’t make him a hero.

Houses are based on certain mutual values, and it so happens the values held by Slytherins can too easily trail into the Dark, but even Slytherins have choice. Draco came back. He could of just not put his wand to Harry and it not happened. So sorry to tell you but you’re just wrong. If anything , her stepping in was bad and could of ended all hopes of defeating Voldemort. Snape didn’t know about Harry disarming Draco. Snape knew Harry would use the disarming spell out of any if threatened so Snape was trying to make the elder want become Harry’s. Luckily it already was. If Harry didn’t disarm Draco , her stepping in to defend him would of meant Harry wouldn’t of been the real owner at the end which is the whole reason the wand stops working and lets Harry defeat him.

Great reaction - regarding the resurrection stone:
The stone never was able to actually resurrect anyone - in the story of the three brothers, it just lets the brother who wished for it see his lost love. But they were still separated and could not touch.
And in exactly the same way when Harry took the stone into his hands, he saw all the people he loved and lost. They gave him that final measure of incredible courage. And since they've always been there (as Sirus pointed to his heart), he no longer needed the stone. He knew they were with him.

Looking back the first 7 movies were building to the ultimate showdown between HP and Voldemort, and even though the chance for a letdown were high I'll be darned if the filmmakers didn't pull off the epic battle of all-time. On a personal note I had to go see the final film by myself when I was fighting a long term illness, so I never shared the experience of viewing this movie with anyone. So a big heartfelt THANKS to you Ames, for finally giving me someone to watch this with me after all these years. Til next time....

Harry lived through three killing curses:
-as a baby aged 1yr, in Godric's Hollow
-as a child aged 14yrs, in the Riddle graveyard
-as an adult aged 17/18yrs, in the Forbidden Forest
Harry later becomes an auror for the Ministry of Magic. If I was a dark wizard and heard Harry Potter, who survived three deadly curses, was after me...I'd immediately turn myself in.

To do this right, you might actually want to take notes while you read. DON'T! Just read and enjoy.
When you finish a book, go find MovieFlame on RUclips. He has videos for each book detailing the differences between book and movie. You could take skimpy notes during that, if you liked, and maybe turn that into an outline for your review.

It was a magnificent journey Ames - thank you for sharing it with us!
As Dumbledore said "Of course it's happening inside your head Harry. Why should that mean it is not real" in translation for the HP readers and viewers that although it is a fantasy world it is real FOR YOU. This always makes me emotional ❤
Also, the whole story is so deep with many layers. For example, as you said the one who was so afraid of death died at a very young age for a wizard (wizards usually live more than 100 years, Voldy was 71); while Harry who accepted death and did not know that he can survive got ( / chose) a second chance at life. This is only one example how well-thought out and poetic HP really is.
You are going to LOVE the books. Me as well read them way after being a fan of the films so my advice for you would be not to read too much extra details / book spoilers, because when you are going to read the books it will feel like a whole new adventure again 🧙‍♂
I would be really interested in each book-review if you have time for such. After you read each book a short sumup video of what you thought of it, what made you emotional / laugh, what was surprising ... etc. You are a gem really with a kind heart - I wish I knew you irl 🥰

A little thing on this last part, if you go back and rewatch the encounter between Snape and McGonagall, you'll see that Snape actually redirects McGonagalls' fire towards the Carrows' behind him then takes their wands before disappearing. You might at some time like to watch some of the deleted scenes from Deathly Hallows, particularly the ones concerning Petunia, Dudley and Draco. You may find them...illuminating. The boy Dumbledore was talking to Draco about in the astronomy tower was Tom Riddle btw.
Harry dropped the resurrection stone because contrary to the name, it doesn't truly resurrect people. Like Dumbledore said, there is no magic that brings the dead back.
The elder wand can defeat and kill whomever you wish. The resurrection stone lets you see talk to loved ones, despite them being dead. The invisibility cloak lets you shield yourself from most danger, even death itself. That's why together they make you master of death.

As amazing as Alan Rickman was as Snape, and believe me, he was incredible, I feel that the movies took away a lot of Snape details that you are going to discover with the books.
Snape's worst memory being one of them. The scene in Order of the Phoenix cut out the true reason why it haunted him so much. In fairness to the filmmakers, Phoenix was in the can before Book 7 was published, so they had no way of knowing why it was so horrible to cut Young Lily's scene out of it and just focusing on James' bullying. The scene WAS filmed though; there's pictures you can Google of Harry standing between the memory of his young parents arguing over Snape, and I question why they've never put the footage into an extended cut with the knowledge they have now.
But yeah, with Snape, the movies do not cover the horrible things he committed towards Harry and Neville in particular. Not because he was spying, but just because he was vindictive and bitter about how horrible his life turned out and was lashing out in pain all the time.
When the chips are down and the situation calls for it, there is nobody more brave and true than Severus Snape. He is not good. He is not evil. He's the ultimate shade of gray, and Rowling's writing puts that picture much more into focus than the movies do, so I hope you enjoy reading about it.

The movies leave out some of the bad things Snape did, but they also leave out a lot of the good things he did do. Nor do they show all the trauma that he suffered and that led him to be an immature adult who was not fully capable of regulating his feelings and his actions (with Hagrid, Lupine and Sirius something very similar happens)

    • @abdurrehmanali7

True the movies paint James as this evil villain and Snape as some saint. James was indeed a bully and I in no shape or form condone bullying… however…James grew out of it as an adult while Snape went to the Dark Arts…(no…bullying is no excuse for Dark Arts sorry)…yes…Snape eventually redeemed himself which I am happy…but to paint James potter as this bad guy who wasn’t good for Lily is sad…James hated the Dark Arts…joined the Order of Phoenix to fight against Voldemort…died protecting his family going 1 on 1 against the most powerful dark wizard of all time WITHOUT a wand.
Wish they cleared that up about James. Happy Snape redeemed himself at the end

    • @Lancun
      @Lancun Год назад +3

@Abdur Rehman Ali I mean, the Dark Arts does not equal evil. Dark Arts includes curses. Many wizards on the light side used Confringo, the Blasting Curse. Severus himself used the Killing Curse at Dumbledore's request even though he knew it would hurt his soul to do so. Why did he do it? Because he was fighting for the side of good.
If he weren't as knowledgeable on the effects of Dark Magic, he wouldn't have been able to brew the potion that kept Dumbledore alive for another year.
Aurors were allowed to use the Unforgivable Curses once it became clear that Voldemort needed to be taken down at any cost.
So the Dark Arts argument that Lily made towards Severus was very naive and childish. Dark Magic can be used by good people and without evil intent. The company he kept, and his goal to become a Death Eater was a more solid argument for her to make than what magic he chose to study.

    • @jaunbeltza7661
      @jaunbeltza7661 Год назад +1

@@abdurrehmanali7 No, the movies don't show James as evil, they some him for a comple of second as he was, a bully teenager. James didn't grow out of that, he continued bullying Snape (this time lying to Lily about it) and he even screwed up the date with Petunia and Vernon on purpose. The only thing that made him act more seriously was joining the war. Also, dark arts ≠ evil, there are countless examples. Even Snape, the only time we saw him use black magic as a teenager when he defended himself from his bully and the guy that tried to kill him. And even then, that course wasn't so different from any other they were taugh6at school.

One thing the movie did horribly was fail to explain what the resurrection stone does. EVERYONE thinks it will keep him from dying, but that stone doesn't have that power.

I read all but the last book last year for the first time and would love to see you react again after reading them 👏🏻💕 can’t wait to watch some of your other videos now and I hope that you’re enjoying the books

I have read and re-read the entire Harry Potter collection, both the English and American editions. I have collected the first book in Latin, Arabic, Ukrainian, Gaelic and French. I watched the entire movie series with my two young sons, all curled up on my bed. We even made two of our own Harry Potter movies, the second one was a 90 minute epic, featuring 14 costumed actors. We filmed it over the span of four months, with scenes shot in Los Angeles, at the Grand Canyon, the Utah desert, Las Vegas, and finally in London, England. We needed that shot of Westminster when Harry and Tonks were racing down the Thames; we filmed from a water taxi. I guess you can say we were fans LOL. This was a GREAT reaction, and I am so touched by Ames' attachment to the entire story. BRAVA! And oh yes, I just subscribed 🥰

Loved seeing you experience these movies and can’t wait to see you watch the reunion. My daughter and I read the books together and she was around the age of the kids when we started, so they are a part of our history that we can always share. It was such a special time with everyone exploring theories between the books coming out and going to midnight releases at Borders bookstore. She and I had our own copy of the sixth and sat up reading it together as long as we could into the early morning hours…. So lovely to see your reactions.

One cool moment from the books cut out from the ending here is that Harry has been carrying his broken wand everywhere, but no one can repair. The last thing he does with the Elder Wand is use Repairo to fix his old wand. I thought that was a really cool moment.
I just binged your entire HP reactions in less than a day. Great series. Loved seeing you make little discoveries all throughout.

By far and about the best HP reaction series I've watched, you were so empathetically in tune with the characters and really brought that Hermione energy; you figured out so many of the twists without even realising how uncommon that is. Have an amazing time with the books, there's so much still to discover; the world's about to unfold x7 for you! ☺

A re-reaction after reading the books would be really interesting! Also, I recommend The Tales of Beedle the Bard. It’s a handful of short stories, including the tale of the three brothers! Would you consider doing little videos after each book you read? I’d love to hear your thoughts on things throughout the series that are only in the books (like Peeves!).

Thank YOU so much for sharing your beautiful journey with us! It has truly been my favorite to see - like I’ve been looking forward to your weekend/Sunday uploads every week and I’m very excited to see how you go about reading/reacting to the books and other HP content!
Btw, you have actually caught so much more detail than others have on the first watch - I sometimes even catch things I haven’t noticed before and I’ve seen the movies at least 50 times by now probably (which feels really so embarrassing to actually acknowledge that 🤣). So don’t be hard yourself for missing things or being confused about things 🤗 I think the movies just try to pack in so much from the books while also missing some details that really tie it together.
    This is only the beginning!!

One thing thats elaborated more on in the books is the prophecy. Its briefly touched on at the end of OOTP, but it says "neither can live while the other survives." The meaning of this is that Harry can never truly live because he is cursed by his link to Voldemort, being his horcrux. It causes him to have emotional outbursts and constant nightmares. In that way, he cannot truly live, but also the presence of that fragment of Voldemort's soul in Harry is precisely what is keeping Voldemort alive and thus making it impossible for Harry to be rid of his curse. On Voldemort's side, this means that Harry is his constant curse as he is unable to defeat or truly harm Harry. This makes Harry Voldemort's one glaring weakness, meaning that he can never truly be victorious while Harry lives, but he also cannot kill Harry without destroying one of his own horcruxes. Iirc, its also implied that neither Voldemort nor Harry can kill the other with magic due to the presence of this fragment of Voldemort's soul in Harry. This means that the wands would be trying to kill their own masters, which they would not do. This is also strengthened by the presence of Harry's blood in Voldemort's veins. This is why their wands always have priori incantatem when they duel. Neither wand can properly harm the other. This is why Voldemort says "we can wound, but not mortally harm one another." This means that the only way for one to kill the other is for them to voluntarily not defend themselves. Harry then survives when Voldemort hits him with avada kadavra (the second time) because of the original protection that Lily placed on his blood that now flows through Voldemort's veins. This means that when Voldemort used avada kadavra on Harry in the Forbidden Forest, all he truly did was kill that fragment of his own soul as he was still unable to affect Harry due to Lily's protection. This comes back at the end of DH2 in Harry's duel with Voldemort where Voldemort is essentially put into a checkmate position because he has accidentally removed Harry's curse by killing his own horcrux and unwittingly used the Elder Wand against the man that was its true master. Voldemort had not foreseen that the wand could possibly be Harry's, causing it to totally fail him at the last crucial moment. Basically Voldemort just got insanely outplayed by a mixture of luck and Harry/Snape/Dumbledore's perfectly crafted long con.

Dumbledore said there was once a boy who made all the wrong choices and told draco to let him help him not do the same. The boy was Tom Riddle.
The protected blood from Lily's sacrifice was used to resurrect Voldemort so when he tried to kill Harry, he could only kill the part that wasn't Harry. Dumbledore wasn't heartless, he kind of knew this, which is why he said it's essential that Voldemort himself must do it. So Voldemort's ego basically saved him since he made it very clear to the deatheaters that he himself must kill Harry.
The resurrection stone doesn't bring people back, like in the story it only brings back projections basically, like what you see of James Sirius Lupin and Lily.
In the book Harry uses the Elder Wand to fix his old wand the he hides it back in Dumbledore's tomb until he dies because if the wizard in control of the wand dies a natural death with it still in his 'possession' it loses it's power.
The eldest kid seen with Harry is Lupin's son.

I've watched more than a few of these reactions to the series. Yours is by far my favorite. I didn't want these to be over either. I actually had to stop myself over the weekend of just banging them out one after another. I'm excited to see what you make of the reunion, but I'm waiting till tomorrow to watch it.
About the 80 percent of viewers not being subscribed, personally I find it difficult to subscribe to reaction channels. While I love the content, you watch a lot of movies I've never seen, so I don't watch those. Which is probably the case for a lot of viewers.
Your videos pop up for me high in my feed, so I'll still get to see the ones for movies I've seen before.
Again. Great series. Really felt like getting to experience them with a friend.

There is a reason why it's consistently nr 1 when it comes to fanworks, fanfictions etc. Because this world is so rich and the characters so well thought out and something about the story touches us deep down in a way that is almost like true magic.❤ Read the books, believe me, you won't regret it.
