I live in Florida, we have Alligators in my neighborhood that walk up the sidewalk between ponds. They're actually quite beautiful and docile most of the time. Always presume in Florida the fresh water has gators in it even and especially if you can't see them. The good thing is they don't usually hunt during the day they just heat up on the river bank until sundown, then they go under water and ambush prey from below. I recommend taking an airboat in the everglades and gettign up close to them. NEVER walk your dog along the edge of a river, lake, or pond in Florida. Every year hundreds of pets usually owned by tourists are snatched from the shoreline and never seen again. Froeigners and tourists simply don't know. This is why you don't see many people in fresh water in Florida. We'll swim in the ocean or swimming pools, but lakes, ponds, and rivers invite gators. A few people die each year from gator attacks, fortunately not that many. There wsa one fatal attack on an 85 year old woman walking her dog in 2023. But golfers and others get bitten. The gator bite down is 2200 pounds per square inch. But you can hold a gator's mouth closed with your bare hands. The muscles to open their mouths are not as strong. Gators and turtles seem to enjoy hanging out together.

Humans don't necessarily want to destroy environments. Take for example the large mouth bass being talked about here. It's been introduced to non-native regions not to destroy them, but because it's a game fish that many fishermen love to fish for. The fact that it can destroy ecosystems it isn't native to is an unintended consequence of it's introduction.

Speaking of catfish, you should react to people noodling catfish by hand. It's a form of fishing where people dig into the mud and get the fish to bite them so they can put their arms in their throats and pull them out of their holes.

8:15 - Most reptiles and amphibians have a defense mechanism for the cold. It's called brumation - brumation is when reptiles and amphibians reduce their level of physical activity and eat a minimal amount during long periods of time where temperatures are too cold for them normally. They don't actually sleep for long periods of time like you see in hibernation, so it's a little different. Alligators will brumate underwater, and allow the water at the surface to freeze around them with their nose poking through the ice so they can breathe. Only the top freezes, so it's not like they're frozen solid.

I once watched a video showing an extremely angry mother eagle showing a grizzly bear the "door". Too close to the nest, the bear could only run for it's life, as the eagle swooped down repeatedly tearing up the poor bears back and rear. She finally broke off her attack once she was satisfied she'd gotten her message across. The back of the bear was soaked in blood, and it wailed with each attack. Eagles are extremely large birds with a wingspan of 6ft. when full grown. They've been known to engage wolves, bears, wolverines. Fortunately they avoid humans. Thank God!! Excellent show and reaction!! Peace. 😎🇺🇸

Other reasons to introduce a non native animal are as a food supply and for sport hunting. In other words, money money money regardless of environmental impact. Remember, he said sport fishers love the wide mouth bass because it puts up a fight.

Large predators are pretty vital to the ecosystem. You can research ecological problems that occurred in Yellowstone National Park when wolves were hunted out of the area. Deer and elk populations got out of control. They ate all of the vegetation near lakes and rivers which meant fewer small prey animals for foxes and coyotes. It affected everything from plant life, insect life, and up the chain. When wolves were reintroduced to the park, all of that started to improve. Deer and elk had to move in more migratory patterns which allowed overgrazed areas to replenish. Insect, bird, rodent life started to return and balance was restored. Hopefully the UK is looking into this for your more rural areas, too!

The coyote is the only native american caine, orgins in the state of New Mexico. They are older than wolves. When saber tooth tigers roamed North America the coyote was there. Native americans often have in their history tales of how smart they are. Often know as the the "trickster". Sure they may eat small pets, but again, their main diet is rats, field mice, and berries. Too often fear is spread about them. To put this in perspective, there has only been two humans killed by coyotes since 1947. In contrast deer deaths are at a average of 440 per year here in the US.

The list should have swapped mountain lion for alligator. Like what was mentioned in the video, the limiting range of the alligator would restrict its total impact on wildlife populations. The mountain lion on the other hand could thrive anywhere in Europe except for the highest peaks of the Alps. Though they could survive up in the Alps, I wouldn't say they could "thrive".
They are adept at moving around rocks and can employ their ambush tactics from rocky outcrops, but there would be a lack of prey animals to allow them to build their population to be dense enough beyond minimal sustainment. Nothing close enough to be considered thriving.
The rest of Europe would be their playground. No natural predators. Wolves and bears cannot catch them because of their speed and climbing ability. With the mountain lion's aptitude in killing, there are few animals on the continent that could fend off an attack. Including humans.
