    A play like that doesn't show up in box scores. That's what makes baseball so great.

    Amazing. Jackie Robinson was so great he gave Micky Mantle Goosebumps.

    I looked at the play-by-play over at baseball-reference and I couldn't find it either.

    i'll see if that's described in the Times' archives. if martin were in it, it would have to be '53, since he was in the army in '51=52

    It would be listed as an assist by Mantle w/a putout by Martin. Also, listed as a basehit and an 8-5 out in the Official Scorer's book for Robinson's at bat. Either you're right, you need to learn how to read baseball 'book' or you need to dig a little deeper. My feeling is that if it happened there HAS to be an Official Scorer's book in the HOF. On Micro-tape, at least. Especially as it was a WS game. Box scores aren't always accurate. Only the O.S. book is relevant.

    Unfortunately, there's not one shred of evidence form the box scores that this play ever occurred.
    (makes a great story, though)
