And they're going to change a WHOLE LOT more, in the next decade. That's when Quantum computers are coming. They are going to speed up the trial and error processes involved with designing more capable machines to UNIMAGINABLE levels. There will be some great things coming from this, but the scariest thing is the possibility of Terminator style robots. ARMIES of them. Even if the robots don't turn against us, the Warmongers of Washington will use them to start WW3. The whole world might end up looking like Gaza. 😬

When Marty's brother Dave tells their father to "change that oil," he was talking about the dad's hair being greasy. It was popular for a time, especially in the 1950s, for teenage boys to grease their hair.

I find it so funny that people are so insistent on this. It's a trailer. The people who saw BttF2 in the theater saw the BttF3 trailer. Are there spoilers? Technically, but nothing that takes anything away from the experience. At worst, you see a specific good guy hurting a specific bad guy. It's a comedy sci-fi action movie, of course a good guy is going to punch a bad guy.
Watch it or skip it, it's not actually that big of a deal, but if you want the authentic experience of the original audience, go ahead and watch it, "spoilers" be damned.

    A few points:
The judge who interrupts Marty's band with the admonition that, "you're just too darned loud," is Huey Lewis. He's lead vocalist for the band Huey Louis and the News. He wrote "The Power of Love," the song heard several times in the film. He and his band performed it for the film.
The film's score was composed by Maestro Alan Silvestri. Among many, many other films, Maestro Silvestri scored the _Avengers_ films.
The mall is originally named "Twin Pines Mall." Doc Brown explicity mentions that the area occupied by the mall was once farmland. Old Man Peabody had a dream of using it to breed pine trees.
That's the farm at which Marty arrives in 1955.
If you look closely, you'll see that Old Man Peabody has a pair of identical pine trees at the end of his driveway -- but Marty runs over one of them. When Marty goes back to 1985, the mall is named "Lone Pine Mall."
One extreme bit of subtlety is that George is left-handed. Believe it or not, this was frowned-upon socially and academically until the 1970s. Lefties were taught to suppress it and use their right hand instead.
This sometimes led to a level of neurosis due to the brain being told to rebel against its natural tendencies.
The key moment is when George punches Biff. He first tries to use his right hand, which Biff easily blocks and immobilizes. It's only when George becomes enraged and uses his natural left hand to punch Biff that he's successful.
The whole neurosis/left suppression issue was intentional by the director and writer. George clocking Biff with his left hand is when George is finally able to overcome his self-doubts and simply "be himself."
Biff saying, "Make like a tree and get out of here," is a joke based on incorrect use of slang that's now fallen out of use. The correct slang is, "Make like a tree and leave." The fact that Biff gets it wrong is a statement on Biff's intelligence (or lack thereof).
"Great Scott!" is another slang term that's fallen out of use. It was an interjection of surprise, amazement, or dismay. It was popular in the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century. It was frequently used by Superman in comics through the 1960s.
Something I didn't notice until RUclips reactors started blurting it out:
_Why did Lorraine remove Marty's pants??_ He had a concussion, not something that would necessitate the removal of his pants!
I'll leave the implications of what Lorraine might have done while Marty's pants were off to the imagination.
Another thing I'd not considered until a _female_ reactor mentioned it:
_Lorraine changing in front of her window was intentional._
This _female_ reactor said that Loreaine knew exactly what she was doing by leaving her window open while she changed -- and George falling into the street wasn't the first time some guy had climbed a tree to look at Lorraine.
It took this _female_ reactor supporting this with dialog for me to really think about it. When Lorraine's father hits Marty, he calls out:
"Another one of those damned kids jumped in front of my car!"
I'd never pondered the implications of "another." This _female_ reactor said that it meant guys climbed the tree so frequently that Lorraine's father misinterpreted them dropping from the branch as jumping in front of the car.
That interpretation made me think back. Prior to the Internet, there were "nosy neighbors": people with nothing better to do than gossip with all their neighbors about all their neighbors.
Lorraine's window is in direct line-of-sight of three neighbors' 2nd floor windows. She's visible from the curb across the street. You don't have to climb a tree with binoculars to watch her, but it helps.
There's probably not a neighbor within a three-block radius who doesn't know about Lorraine. It's scandalous enough that every guy in High School probably knows about her.
The 1955 band with whom Marty plays "Johnny B. Goode" is Marvin Berry and the Skylighters. It's now missed by modern audiences, but in-universe, Marvin is cousin to real-life rock musician Chuck Berry.
At one point in the song, Marvin calls Chuck on the phone and says, "You know that new sound you've been looking for? Well listen to _this!_ " and holds the phone toward the stage.
Chuck Berry was the real-life composer and performer of "Johnny B. Goode." Berry would go on to become one of the most influential musicians of all time.
If Chuck Berry copied "Johnny B. Goode" from Marty, this creates what scifi fans call a "Bootstrap Paradox." Marty learned it from Berry, but Berry learned it from Marty. The song ultimately has no composer.
This film creates a very strange paradox that's neither broached nor resolved:
When Marty returns to 1985, he sees a version of himself go back in time. However, _it's not the same Marty_ . It's an *Alternate Marty* who grew up in the *Alternate 1985* created by Marty's 1955 actions: where his father is a successful, self-confident scifi novelist; his family is successful; and Doc isn't killed by the Libyans.
The question becomes: what did Alternate Marty do when he went back to 1955?
If Alternate Marty "interfered" with his parents' meeting, to him it would be the way he'd always heard his parents recount the story: that a teenager named Calvin "Marty" Klein was hit by Lorraine's father; that Lorraine was infatuated with him for a few days; and that this ultimately led to Biff's attempted SA of her and George clocking Biff.
This becomes what scifi fans call a "Predestination Paradox," in which Alternate Marty must become Calvin "Marty" Klein in order for his future to exist.
However, Alternate Marty might _not_ interfere, and the logical implications get very, very twisted. It ultimately results in what scifi fans call an "Infinite Loop Paradox," where multiple different Martys start showing up in 1955.
Eventually, Doc's only reasonable response would be to break the loop by never building the time machine at all.
The entire matter is totally glossed-over. It's best to forget about it and enjoy the films, because dramatically they're fantastic.
Indeed, this script is taught in film schools as the "perfect script" because of the way it's structured. There are entire textbooks written about it.
This film was the inspiration for _Rick and Morty_ . It's obviously only the inspiration, as _Back To the Future_ and _Rick and Morty_ are fundamentally different on many levels.
There's an ongoing question among scifi fas as to how Original Marty got together with Doc.
According to the director and writer, Original Marty had been told by Principal Strickland that Doc was a dangerous nutcase. Being the average Gen-X teenager, Original Marty pushed-back by going to Doc's lab to see for himself.
Marty found himself impressed by all the weird gadgets Doc had lying around. Doc then hired Marty to work part-time at the lab doing odd jobs for him. Along the way, Marty convinced Doc to build the gigantic amplifier for his electric guitar that we see in the opening of the film.
    Back in the real world:
In the early hours of the October 21, 2015 (the date Doc went forward to) fans gathered at the Puente Hills Mall, the shooting location of the Lone/Twin Pines Mall, to celebrate the impending arrival of the DeLorean. Sadly, no DeLorean ever appeared, but the fan celebration was well-covered in the press.
On a personal note: as an early Gen-Xer, I was the same age as the "teenaged" actors. I instantly fell in love with Lea Thompson and continue to be infatuated with her today.
Female reactors like to say, "Eyes up here," when Lorraine removes her sweater in the car. Guys my age have never been able to keep their eyes "up here."
It's impressive that Lea was able to transition out of ingenue roles, which is rare in Hollywood. Typically, actresses simply "age out" and are discarded, but Lea continued to act for some time. She's also a successful Broadway actress and has now transitioned into directing.
Lea remains beautiful and is one of the few Gen-X actress/directors who hasn't resorted to surgery nor botox nor enhancements. She's aged far better than me, and I really respect her not having chosen the enhancement route.
No doubt, if I were to ever meet her, I'd be reduced to a drooling fanboy and embarrass myself. 💗

There's a LOT of foreshadowing in this film. For example, one of the little clocks at the beginning depicts actor Harold Lloyd hanging off one of the hands (a scene from the silent film Safety Last! (1923)). This foreshadows both the Doc hanging the clock in his bathroom and falling, and also the Doc hanging off the clock tower hands at the end.

    1. Cranky principal Strickland/James Tolkan also played the ship's squadron leader in "Top Gun".
    2. The teacher that tells Marty, "Hold it fellas, I'm afraid you're just too darn loud" is Huey Lewis himself. "Heart of rock and roll" etc.
    3. Eric Stoltz was first cast as Marty, but he didn't play well with others and wasn't giving the tone they were looking for. fired. Some of his long shots and small things like his elbow are still in the movie.
    4. The flammable material set on fire with the model exercise had to have been put there on purpose. Movie magic.
    5. It's always fun to see how people react to the Marty and his mom car scene.
    6. George McFly/Crispin Glover didn't like that the story ended with the family being prosperous. DA🙄
    7. Twin Pines Mall becomes Lone Pine Mall when Marty takes one out when he goes back to 1955.
    8. IMVHO part II is my favorite of the trifecta.
    9. If you want a first time/share of an OUTSTANDING movie where Christopher Lloyd plays the heavy you must do "Who Framed Roger Rabbit".

Bravo, you hit the nail on the head with your analysis! It would've been far easier, for somebody to have gone back to 1955 from 1985, than somebody going from 2024 to 1985! Take it from someone who experienced the 80's! The 80's, ( as well as the 90's ) were just as much a part of the Stone Age, as the 50's were! Both the 50's and the 80's depended completely on landline, and pay phones! In fact, some people still had rotary phones in the 80's! Even though cell phones came on the scene in the 90's, they were the exception not the rule! Some people watched tv in black and white in the 80's, and used rabbit ears ( antennas ) in the 90's! To deposit a check in the 50's, 80's, and 90;s, you still had to go to the bank. In the 50's no email. In the 80's, email was in use for businesses. While email began to expand to the general public in the 90's, conventional mail was still dominate. In ending, sadly this current period is still no Space Age. No flying cars, just predominantly the same old gas guzzlers, clogging the streets! Love your reaction, and wishing you continued success!

The "change the oil" joke was a reference to a hair oil that George had in his hair. It was somewhat common in the 80s (although I think much more common in previous generations before the 80s) for men to use Brylcreem or some other hair additive. It was oily and sometimes just referred to as "oil."

The phrase Biff says should be "Make like a tree and leave," which is a pun due to trees having leaves and the similarity to the word for depart. The joke is that he always gets it wrong, and in BttF 2 he is reprimanded for getting it wrong.
As for when Lorraine talks about parking, there used to be a common practice among amorous youth of taking their cars to a secluded spot, parking there, and making out. I mean, it probably still goes on these days, but it's just not seen as a specific thing now.

Watch on RUclips his band singing Power of Love, original video, it has Doc in it and the car.

While the movie Tron made use of computer graphics in 1982 (they were denied an Oscar because using computers was "cheating") modern CGI would not be seen until The Abyss (1989) and even then, nobody had any idea what could really be done with it until 2 years later when T2 shocked us with effects not even dreamed of before. Like 99.9% of 80s movies, all three BttF movies are 100% practical effects.

Hi Ven, I loved your reaction. I just wanted to mention that the flying cars weren’t a serious prediction, but more of a fun parody of a highly technological future and the car thing was just a joke to leave the audience surprised. Even this movie was intended to end the story there and there were no plans to make sequels, but it was so successful that in the end they had to continue the story and created one of the most successful, fun and complete trilogies in cinema.
Also, your reaction to the scene with Marty and Lorraine in the car was so innocent and sweet; I could really feel your discomfort and embarrassment, which made it even more adorable and entertaining. Keep it up!

Fun Fact Time travel has been proven and it is far easier to go forward but some electronics do take advantage of quantum tricks to send data back measurable amounts to counter delays in and to shrink circuits. It is also how news crews don't have extended lags when covering things on opposite sides of the planet, 70's would have 8-9 second delays from question to answer while today it is often as if they are in the same studio.

First, and most important, "parking" is sort of code. A couple "go parking" if they want to become more intimately acquainted and are looking for a private place to do it. It's what they do if they want to "make out" with each other. Both are American slang. And, yes, the story does play fast and loose with its time travel rules. Both the Chuck Barry song and Mayor Goldie Wilson are examples of what is known as a "Bootstrap Paradox". Marty gives Goldie the idea to run for mayor because in the future he is mayor. So who came up with the idea? And Marty knows the song Johnny B. Goode because Chuck Barry wrote it. But here he got the idea from Marty, so who wrote it? In both cases the answer is: No one wrote it and no one gave Goldie the idea, it exists in a paradox loop of impossibility. That's a problem with deterministic time travel. On the other hand, Marty is constantly changing his future by everything he does, where if the previous rules applied, everything he did always happened and would still result in the original future. How about this: How did Doc know Marty? That's easy, they met in 1955! So in the second timeline Doc went looking for Marty so they could become friends so he could travel to the past! Questions, questions. Like if they are friends, why didn't Marty know about this time machine Doc has been working on for thirty years. And where was it? Not in his garage/apartment. And my favorite one: Why did Doc back the Delorean out of his truck? Why was he in the Delorean in the truck? He couldn't have gotten into the car in the truck - you couldn't open the gullwing doors inside, it's too narrow. He would have had to get in the car, drive it into the truck, and back out again when Marty was there. That's the real mystery!

Hello Miss Venezuela!😊 This is easily the most bingeable film trilogy ever.🏆🏆🏆Unlike most trilogies, these films are VERY interconnected and are best viewed within a short time of each other, so you catch everything.😉 That box of stuff George pours into the cereal bowl is not cereal at all, but peanut brittle. It is not very healthy. The mall parking lot where the time machine is first seen has been on the verge of closing for a few years with most of the anchor stores now closed. "Lyon Estates" is where Marty lives in 1985. He sees it is not built yet. Yep, air conditioning was a luxury most businesses did not have in 1955. Biff messed up the saying, it is "Make like a tree, and leave".😉 When people would "Park" they would make out and possibly have sex. SUPER reactions to your first Back to the Future film, Miss V!!!!🎬👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

two points... "In the future we don't need roads" was the thinking in 1955 about the future 30 years ahead - so the use in the film has been a reference to the past. 1) Doc needed help with his experiments, so he published a paid announcement on the Hill Valley newspaper, looking for someone who could work part time and help him carry stuff and such.
Marty answered that because he needed some money to treat Jennifer.
    2) The writers said that everyone always gets the future wrong in movies, so they didn't even try to guess... they just went with what felt fun.
    3) There are really two or three versions of time travel in media, related to theories on how it would work.
In the *Back to the Future* franchise, it's a non cyclical time travel.
So whatever they do in the past *DOES* change the future.
Furthermore, BttF characters who time travel remember what the timeline was like before the changes.
So, in conclusion... Goldie did *NOT* become mayor because Marty told him, he would have had that idea regardless.
Lorraine didn't call her kid Marty because of the guy she met in high school, she liked the name regardless.
And Chuck Berry didn't get the idea of writing *Johnny B. Goode* because his cousin had him listen to a portion of a song through the phone at a high school concert once. 😉
