Years back me and a buddy were at a reception where Bobby Orr was doing a guest appearance. We stood back and once the crowd dissipated he walks over to us and says "hi fellas..." for the better part of 10 minutes it was just the 3 of us in the room...me, my pal, and my hero just talking... 40 years later - still magic.
I watched this on tv live. I think I remember after the interview was over, a bunch of older New York Ranger fans called in and recall watching Bobby Orr beat the Rangers in the Stanley Cup finals and call him the greatest hockey player they ever saw.
My son and I were fortunate to meet Mr Orr at his book signing several years ago. He truly is a class act and gentleman (still has a powerful grip too) !!
I think Bobby Orr's greatest ability , was his ability to change direction instantly and to accelerate and decelerate better than anyone one else. You don't have to be the biggest or strongest. To be successful you have to be impossible to follow or catch-up to and to be very unpredictable. Orr is the best of all time. He played half his life in the smallest rink, being the Boston Gardens (191' x 83') receiving lots of physical punishment and abuse on the smaller rink where he had no pl;ace to hide. With a (200'x85') arenas, If he played today at the age of 22, with the new regulations, being the loss of the RED center line and referees calling all sorts of interference and rough play, he would finish the season with the most points for 5 seasons or more.
It’s unfortunate that Francesca interrupted Bobby several times. You’ve got the greatest hockey player in your studio and you prevent him from finishing a thought.
Bobby explained it well despite the the interviewer. Bob is one of us, a Canuck , feigns attention...just trying to explain a bit of hockey to viewers. I always prefer it when hockey people interview hockey players. Tough to get his message out otherwise
I have been driving the zamboni since I was 16 I am 62 now. Started skating when I was 12 . I was fortunate to work for 6 different rinks over my lifetime. Because I am a big Bobby Orr fan . I was given the book for Christmas. While I was working as a greeter. A young man came into where I worked. Found out he was a big soccer fan but wanted to play hockey. But his mom said he was going in the hospital for brain surgery. To help him in the hospital. I put together a gift basket. A zamboni , hockey puck, and the book. Bobby Orr My Story . And some other stuff. And gave it to his mom . She said the Book Helped him believe he would recover. Which he did Thanks to Bobby Orr.
Mike pretended to be interested. He hates hockey. A caller asked him last week what he thought of "tonight's Rangers/Ducks game". He told the caller " nobody cares" and hung up on him.
My childhood idol

Bobby a hockey God
Orr is a class act
Orr is even a greater person than superstar. A rarity for sure.

I think Mike likes to hear his own voice. If you're going to interview someone, let them finish a sentence once in a while!
Mike f arrogant loud mouth
Great question, What was it like to be be best player on the ice?
You have the greatest hockey player of all-time on your show and this clown keeps talking over him. Smh...🙄
Mike pretended to be interested. He hates hockey. A caller asked him last week what he thought of "tonight's Rangers/Ducks game". He told the caller " nobody cares" and hung up on him.
this interviewer sucks..... too loud, answers his own questions, interrupts.
who is this interviewer- terrible. Needs to just shut up and let Bobby talk
my EXACT thoughts- another New York loudmouth. You DO NOT interrupt Bobby Orr.
He called him Bobby Orr and not Bob Orr, like when he refers to Johnny Bench as John Bench.
And your point?
Not a good interview
