  • In this video I start with the basics of integration, moving quickly through more difficult examples of indefinite integration before looking at definite integration to find the area under a curve. There's an exam style question at the end.

    the water drops bounced around to off it
    the pump stopped working
    we saw the driver go in
    must have been rebuilding the entire pump.

    What most teachers overlook when trying to explain the c constant is the fact that the function denotes a whole family of curves and all the constant does is determine its position on the y axis.
    Great videos though and well explained. You have a great way of making light work of explaining rather complex knowledge and conveying the key points without rambling on, which is what I’m starting to do so I’m out. 👍

    its more efficient (and arguably less error-prone) to combine the integrands by subtraction before integrating ie here integrate the curve minus the line, between the limits calculated

      James Palgrave you’re quite right! However the way I’ve done it here is the way expected in the English A level spec. Thanks for your comment though, always good to have multiple techniques!

    Thank you for the help! These videos have helped me a lot in understanding what these a level students are currently studying and I’m hopefully studying maths Further Maths Physics and chemistry next year, although I might want to stop watching a level videos and focus on the GCSEs for now… but I’m not sure. (If you’re reading this and can give advice on what I should do pls do)

    hello starfish, i want to understand...what way of uses of integration and differentiation...as in bussiness point of view..."ur x= ( a product )...so if we do integrate add or divide...2(x)= 2(a product) ~integrate~ we got = x is to power 2...what its means?
    same question as for differentiation...i want to know simply "what or how to use differentiation & integration in real life...plzz make video💕

      Hello. Good question - differentiation is used a lot in optimization problems. So if you have a mathematical model for profit then you can use differentiation to find maximum or minimum profit, for example. Integration as the opposite of differentiation is very useful for solving differential equations, which come up a lot in applied mathematics. It's also closely related to area and volume, so an example is it can be used for calculating the volume of material needed to make a physical product. Hope that helps!

    in the example y=x(x-3)(x+2) how do i explain to students which way to draw the graph between the 3 x values - you knew that between -2 and 0 the graph went above the X axis, how do i explain this to them? thanks

      Caroline Peters Good question - I think probably the easiest way is to plot on the y axis where the graph crosses (by using x=0) and then it will be obvious which way round the curve goes. Good luck!

    4:27 I have always thought that when polynomials are arranged, they should arranged in descending order of their power. Please confirm if this is necessary

    In first question of definite integrals the value of second part is -34/3 but I get -70/3. Am I wrong or she made a mistake
