You are the very first teacher i hear telling why we differentiate ! Thank you. I think i got it finally. Differentiation gives you the gradient at any point along the graph.
No kidding, that simple explanation went a long way. Thinking of it as finding the gradient really filled in some blanks, instead of just learning how to differentiate. Next stop, limits. Is it just me, or does everyone learn more off RUclips than in actual class.
I am a business background student. In my university curriculum one of the courses I have found the differentiation. I had no idea what differentiation was! I have done 2 classes and understood nothing. but I find out this video. now it makes sense to me. Thank you Starfish Maths. You are a lifesaver.
A few days ago I sat through a lesson on differentiation without really understanding what on earth any of it meant. Thank you so much for this simple and clear explanation, I feel like I’m now mostly caught up on the things I was confused about.
I have a calendar with nice pictures accompanied by different wise or thoughtful sayings for each day and this video vaguely reminded me of the saying for the day from a few weeks ago. It was when Einstein said "Genius is making complex ideas simple". Except I would adjust what Einstein said to: "Genius (teaching) is making complex ideas (clear and comprehensible)". I've seen a few examples of genius teaching on various RUclips videos and THIS video (for which I'm most grateful) is one of those examples.
I was looking at the comments to see if anybody noticed that! anyways, that means we all make mistakes and mistakes are ok, but hopefully she corrects it.
um guys no, what she wrote is correct, the finals and is -3x^-5/2 + 2x^-3/2. If you still think its not, please kindly tell me where it went wrong ☺️ @Samiul Haque Chowdhury
I was so confused what differentiation is and how to solve it. These simple questions with different challenges helped me understand to solve. It is really easy and now I love it.
I was so clueless in class and this really helped me. Took the teacher 2 whole hours to explain in class and i still didn't understand anything. She took 5 mins and i completely understood everything. tysm
This is the best thing ever that dropped from heaven 😭😭 I could never understand this shit for a whole year!!! I'm glad I found this today luckily 😭❤️❤️
5:26 In the 6th question ( y= 2xcube - 4 ) / √x When u multiplied.... {2xcube × x to the power (-1/2)} It will be = 2x to the power {3+(-1/2)} = 2x to the power {5/2} 🤔🤔But u wrote 2x to the power {-3/2} ! Am I right or wrong?
Thanks...a million...God bless you to keep on helping others..couldn't miss to subscribe...I love starfishmath..making me a real star..God bless...you more..
It was really helpful to explain what you did in the last three questions. I was able to figure out what to do in question 4 and 5, but 6 was very disappointed that you were not interested in clarifying the answers.
This was a very helpful video in helping me understand the basics of differentiation, thank you so much for making this! On a smaller note, there seems to be a mistake in preparing the equation at 5:12.
i just wanna thank u🙏, no joke my calculus teacher for 3rd yr manufacturing engineering which is mostly theoretical & have a full subject of calculus on my 1st term 1/2 of the academic yr just he puts stuff on the board & doesn’t explain like u do. these vids which clear & simplicity just makes calculus understandable & learnable - tho i still have questions. i never had a teacher who doesn’t explain, can’t believe it , but vids like urs help thx🙏. we now have “semesters” which i swear it’s an american thing, used to be called “terms” it’s my college’s 1st time doing semesters/terms (UK system). at least my further maths teacher does explain.
Hi Hasham, you're quite right - good spot. The powers should be added, so 2x^3 times out the bracket with x^-1/2 will give 2x^5/2 rather than 2x^-3/2. Hope that's clear.
That kinda hapiness that we get after learning a math lesson and having better confident for the sums is un measurable .... The one who teaches us to that position must be specificaly admired specially in Maths ... Thank you so much Starfish maths for this lovely explanation😊
For the last 3 hours, i've been going crazy over the last one on 5:30, i used a diff method to simplify the equation (i used a-b/c = a/c - b/c) and managed to get the one before that correct, and half the last one correct, yet i always got 2x^-3/2 as 2x^5/2 , as i subtracted the power 3 from the power half in the denominator.
Hello ma'am. I would like to ask this. In the 6th problem (2x^3 - 4) 4x^-1/2. Why is it that 2x^3 x x^-1/2 = 2x^-3/2? Is power rule in exponents adds up all the exponents when the variables are the same?
I am studying stage 1 engineering with the OU and recently got onto calculus and differentiation. The books are terrible but watching this made it all so easy! Thank you 🙏🏼
I literally cannot express myself in words! I can't tell u how much I was struggling with differentiation and integration. But after watching ur videos everything is just crystal clear to me. Thank you so much!
Thank you for such a clear explanation. its very easy ti understand and from what i have learnt from your explanation there seems to be a small contradiction on problem 6. I think you might want to have a look at it again . i might be wrong by the way
Ok I'm confused on the last problem (of the first 6 you gave). When you distribute the x^(-1/2) across the 2x³-4, wouldn't you add the exponents (-1/2+3) to get 2x^(5/2) for your first term? Or does the adding exponents rule not apply with fractions?
thank you so much you actually helped me out, i had no idea what differentiation actually meant, but your video helped me out so much. thank you may gob bless miss.

i couldnt understand differentiation in class at all as i find this topic not interesting to me, but I had so much homework abt this topic and decided to study and saw ur video. you explained it clearly and in such a simple way. thank you so much for this!
i also got confused with the last equation mistake like how can u be so confident with the wrong calculation, but u can say that was a mistake done willingly to check if we r really focused and attentive :3
The last problem at 5:05 has an error. Took me awhile thinking my math was wrong but it was right. Rewritten: f(x) = 2x^(5/2)-4x^(-1/2) The powers for the first part were multiplied in the video instead of adding them. From there I got: f'(x) = 5x^(3/2) + 2x^(-3/2) Otherwise good video. Thank you for the review!
