    I think Darnold still has some runway in terms of his career progression. I believe he could still be a solid starter in the NFL (my USC bias notwithstanding). The one thing I was concerned about when he came out is that he regressed quite a bit in his last season at SC. Kinda similar to Caleb in that he was asked to do too much for a team whose roster that had taken a major step down in his final season. He was forcing throws and was reckless at times. His ceiling will never reach his draft selection status, but 7 years from now Sam might still be in the NFL.

    I'll never forget the ghost sightings poor Darnold had in that game against the Patriots. I felt for the guy cause Patriots defense was just swarming him and picking off every pass he threw. I'm kind of a fan of the Pats, as that was always my moms team since she was born and raised in Boston, so I was enjoying them blasting the Jets, but those are the kind of games that ruin rookie QBs

      Next year’s QB class is not as good. Maybe two guys will end up with a first round grade. Will be tough to get one unless the Vikings bottom out.
      Also, Darnold has little chance of ever being more than a fringe starter. He isn’t even that yet but could have a Mayfield/Geno Smith type season and earn some $$$ next year. But I wouldn’t hold my breath on him becoming the franchise savior. Have to move forward with the necessary moves to improve the team, such as drafitng a 1st round QB.

      I'm just wondering why people still believe KOC is some kind of QB whisperer when he hasn't demonstrated that ability anywhere ever. His only accomplishment was holding a clipboard for a true offensive genius Sean McVay during a Super Bowl run. Just look at the long line of QB's KOC has worked with and none of them have amounted to anything. You can't even say there was marginal improvement over what they already were. I think he's the Kirk Cousins of HC's. If he gets lucky and ends up with a Patrick Mahomes, then he has a shot of actually looking like a genius. Otherwise it's nothing but excuses.

When I watched him play at USC, my eyes saw a potential star NFL quarterback. The PHYSICAL talent is definitely there. If KOC can "fix" him mentally, we can have a diamond in the rough. That being said, I still want Penix, even if he has to sit and learn for a season. Worse/best case scenario, SD plays so well, that he garners us a high draft pick in a trade.

    Sam is in a perfect situation to get himself a big payday. He’s more mobile than Kirk was and has all the tools. If he can put together a good season he can go out and get starter pay. It would be hard not to have a good year considering the car he gets to drive. If the rookie ends up getting hurt or not living up to the hype the Vikings could extend Sam.

    I don't know about automatically cutting ties with a vet mercenary if he doesn't win you a SB after 4 years, it should depend on how well those 4 years went, but having said that, if the "mercenary" only gets you to playoffs once in those 4 years, and doesn't even sniff a CC, then what the hell are you doing? The Vikings went 6 years and wanted to keep going but the Falcons came in and out Viking'd them. It doesn't exactly instill confidence in KOC if he thought he was ever going to win anything with Kirko. Working with 6 years of less evidence, even Zimmer knew that much.

  • @purplepainforums
    @purplepainforums Месяц назад

    Phil talking about the awful Jets/Panthers situation like Darnold is now in the best situation of his career, and I'm just sitting here feeling even more sorry for Darnold because now he has to suffer through KOC's dysfunctional offense lol. The guy who doesn't know how to design a simple screen pass or an effective run game, and only knows about the 7 step drop. At Darnold's next stop in 2025, they're going to talk about how the poor guy had to work under Bowels, Gase, Reich, and then KOC. Has a QB ever been in a worse situation to start a career?
    Then Judd doubles down comparing the situation to Steve Young, like KOC would even be fit to hold a clipboard for Bill Walsh much less be compared to such offensive genius. KOC hasn't developed or unlocked anything, anywhere, at any level. No QB he's ever touched has amounted to anything and I doubt that's going to change with Sam Darnold, so when he fails yet again, the excuse is already baked in, Sam Darnold was always just a dumpster fire.

    I think KOC can. It's one of the reasons I'd like to see them draft the best available QB at 11, and then grab a defensive player at 23. The only thing the top 5 teams in the draft are going to do now is try to squeeze more draft picks out of us, so it's not worth losing our 1 in 2025. Darnold is much better than Joshua Dobbs, and any other QB they had from last year after Cousins got hurt. His biggest issue has been reading his progressions and getting rid of the ball. It certainly isn't his arm strength and accuracy.

  • @petert834
    @petert834 Месяц назад

    Is there a chance Darnold is "unlocked"? Yes. Darnold has physical tools and will be put into a great position with the talent around him and the coaching around him. Plus he's at the point now where he should be really able to reach the next level because he's got enough experience to be comfortable in an NFL offense, reading NFL defenses, and able to process.
    HOWEVER...he's always been a bit turnover prone and I do worry that KOC's offense will be too demanding on the QB to process/make decisions and Darnold will not be able to handle it. So we will see if KOC can simplify things enough for Darnold the way he did initially for Dobbs, but then keep it relatively simple enough for Darnold to handle without being too limiting on the offense. Dobbs could not handle things as they tried to expand what they did on offense. KOC just demanded too much of him. Mullens was actually able to do it somewhat but his brain kept writing checks that his arm couldn't cash.

      Sounds like revisionist history. 2022 was Cousins worst year as a starter statistically. The only thing he did well were 4th quarter comebacks, but everyone seems to forget Kirko and KOC's offense completely disappeared every 2nd and 3rd quarter, which is why they needed all the 4th quarter comebacks. His QB rating was 11 points higher under Baby Kubes. And 2023 wasn't much better after the horrible 1-4 start.

    I think Sam Darnold is going to be great here. I don't think we're going to need to draft any quarterbacks. Beyond everything else he has really great footwork. Better than most NFL quarterbacks already. he has had a really terrible situation thrust upon him and I hope the Vikings don't screw this up because they let a number one draft fall into their laps. Nothing ever goes right for the Vikings quarterback wise maybe something finally has. OK nothing is gone right since they drafted Kramer Culpepper excuse me Vikings have drafted three good quarterbacks Kramer and Culpepper in 64 years

    So what Judd is saying is you sell a slightly used car that has proven its durability in order to keep a brand new model simply because you paid more for it. Makes zero sense. In that scenario, it makes much more sense to sign Darnold to a 3 or 4 year mid-range contract and play him another year. If he balls out again, he's proven that he's your guy and you trade the rookie for whatever you can get, ala Trey Lance. If you get a 2nd or 3rd rounder for him, then cool. You have your franchise QB who is under 30 so nothing else matters. Ask SF if they care about losing on a draft sheet for a couple of years. What you don't do is allow your ego to dictate your path.
