It's Friday and we are bringing you
NBA Analyst and Duke basketball legend Jay Williams joins the Pivot for a deep conversation addressing some of the latest media controversies and the tragedy he's overcome.
With Fred returning from his trip this week, we asked Jay Williams, someone who we admire as an entrepreneur and media personality but also one of the greatest to play the game of basketball, to sit in for a special edition of The Pivot. With Thanksgiving just passing and the holidays around the corner, It's a good time to reflect on life and appreciate the growth life's journey takes us on.
Jay joins Ryan and Channing for a conversation covering the latest topics in sports, media and takes us through the trials and tribulations he's experienced from being a star at Duke to being a #2 NBA draft pick to his life changing accident to finding his purpose in life through rehabilitation, media and family.
Recently, Jay, a NBA analyst for ESPN, received backlash and sparked some viral debates as he was one of the first to publicly demonstrate support for Kyrie Irving in the controversy around his social media post promoting a documentary "Hebrews to Negroes: Wake Up Black America" and encouraged people to take a moment and allow for conversation around the situation without immediately condemning Kyrie for his thoughts. The guys go into detail about what led Jay to take this stance and jeopardize his job and put so much on the line to speak his mind.
The Duke basketball great was on pace to be one of the best NBA players as he was drafted second overall only to have his career cut short due to a tragic incident.
Jay details the night of the motorcycle accident that almost took his life and took the thing he loved most from him, basketball. In an emotional moment, Jay shares the fear and emotional battles he fought while also fighting physically to regain his strength.
Finding purpose again and being able to have a gift to impact others through media and his businesses has been life saving and a blessing that Jay doesn't take lightly. A father of three and married to his best friend, Jay talks about how family is the foundation for all that he does and his backbone after growing up with a close knit family but one that wasn't exempt from emotional hardships as well.
Tap in every Tuesday at noon eastern for our premiere episode of the Pivot. Special NFL seasonal drops on Friday afternoons at 3:30 pm. We are your one-stop platform for all your sports and entertainment content.

Being a white 51 year old man II love and respect this show and what these guys are trying to accomplish Amazing episode one of the best
Hey Rod i appreciate your comment and i totally agree with you this was a great episode
you don't have to note that you're white buddy, say what you have to say and that's it, or you want someone to pat your back don't you? Try removing that part and start the sentence with the "I love and....", it's better, trust me.
@@mondikoci2966 Well thank you for your 2 cents But with all due respect I don't care what you think or how you think I should say it I said what I said because that's how I feel and if you don't like that then Well hell too bad And again don't give 2 shits what you think I should have said or not said Hope you have a great day
@@2ericcortes And I appreciate you Appreciate me And understand what my comment really meant Because the more I watch these episodes the more my eyes are opened and realized a lot of things that are going on in this world that maybe I never knew Or subconsciously ignored So I love watching these episodes because after every one of them I feel like I got more educated than I was before I watched The episodesIt's not about being patted on the back it's about letting them know that what they are doing is working it might be one person at a time But it's working And I am the Testament to that
Open discussions. Corporate media want to lock it down. Unamerican!
Man, WHAT IS THIS SHOW?! This podcast has become therapy. I LOVE IT!!! This episode was literal PERFECTION!
It is Therapy
Well said.
Not being entirely into sports these last few decades, I don't know the gentlemen well, however, I'm familiar with them enough that I finally clicked on the "play" button and wow, am I glad I did. This transcended sports. I saw three lovely human beings, who are men, Black, intelligent, articulate, knowledgeable, experienced, handsome, healthy and strong mentally, emotionally and physically.
This was darn terrific. Thank..uh, I mean, "You're welcome". Just kidding, thank you.
Man I’m a 22 year old black man and I appreciate you guys SO MUCH I dropped tears at multiple times during this Pod Jay I truly appreciate you man your view point is many of us who feel like we have no voice I’ll support more but man that was truly inspiring
I thought I was the only one I just watched it great episode
Channing C.'s message "You're Welcome" is powerful. Thanks for sharing with us. His message needs to be shared with the population, because it is much needed and very true.
RC ability to articulate is second to none. That man is truly gifted
He had to tell SAS that same thing one time
Truth
That’s what a degree in Mass Communications can do for you. >>>>>

Matt Barnes on All the Smoke is very good as an interviewer as well
Never seen Chan so serious & moved by J Will’s story. Usual he’s all jokes but this show was different. Very deep & appreciate J Will opening up things some of us are scared to talk about publicly with others.
And you'd think he would clown! I'm not big on J-will trying to debate....
The issue of stereotypical Ness in this world in this society, has really crushed the African globally. Very contrary, to what the shack and the Barkley has been putting over the media, these three men have illustrated very differently to the world.

the one thing i can say i ABSOLUTELY LOVE about this show is that yall let people COMPLETELY expres their thoughts with NO INTERRUPTIONS!!! yall actually let people talk. this was a very deep and interesting episode. another great episode. SALUTE!!!
they make it fell like you are in therapy
This can't be it!!!!
You guys need to do a part 2... the conversation was to good for it to end the way it did... Bring JW back for a second round... 👌🏾 👌🏾 👌🏾
I agree 💯 %
💯💯💯
Facts
It's possible... they did for Playmaker
@@orochimaru3950 you're right.... this one has probably been my favorite, especially since I didn't expect much... JW has a story to tell.... if you think about it, they only really talked current basketball for about the last 5 to 10 minutes... the rest was JW story, and current events.... this was a dope interview IMHO... bring him back!!!!
38 year old whit male here. I love this channel! You guys keep dropping bombs. Seriously, it's the best show on any platform! J Will keep it up. You couldn't have picked a better platform. Keep up the needed conversations! All of you!!!
Wow, Channing showing his emotions. This was a very cathartic conversation. Thank you gentlemen!
Both men and women have the capacity to express emotions.

Mad respect for Jay Williams, he’s shown the world who is on several occasions giving insight on others affairs , it was refreshing to see the origin of the man he is. These conversations bring so much healing.
“News used to be the news and a smaller segment about how you feel, now it’s how you feel and a small segment about the news” Jay Williams. Shoutout to the Pivot Podcast for this much needed perspective
💯
I can relate so much to Jay. I almost died 2 years ago from a brain injury. I was left to learn how to walk and I’m still struggling to speak clearly. Much respect on saying that you have t spend time with yourself!!
Prayers go out to you during your recovery. 🙏🏼🙌🏼
@@louielou6294 🙇🏾 thank you
And much respect to you and your recovery 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Respect!
God bless you!!!
FYI: For all of the people asking. Fred took a trip to Thailand. Via his IG he is back.
I figured it was something , Preciate this 👌🏾👌🏾
Thank you
Glad to know. I was worried. Hope he had a great time. Appreciate the update my friend.
You're this month's MVP!
Boy I was wondering.
This is by far one of the best episodes. Jay Will is very well spoken. And he takes the time to explain the flaws of the media perfectly
This is the best podcast hands down!! Jay changed my opinion on him. A very thoughtful and intelligent dude that doesn't always reflect that on First Take
One of the most honest and thought provoking Pivot episodes that I’ve ever seen. Jay is more than a former bball player. Keep it up bro!
Facts J.Will is solid & he doesn’t sugar coat nothing.Unlike SAS
This was awesome. I hope one day that you guys can get Max Kellerman on. That would be dope too.
Ooooooh!!! That's a phenomenal suggestion!
💯
Definitely
This was one of the deepest conversation i have listen to on this podcast. I am too a only child and saw my mother go through what his mother went through. It takes courage to tell people what you had to endure and how it has changed him as a person seeing that. I am 52 and it still bothers me to another level because I was a part of the abuse from someone my mother dated. Thank God for Jason and you guys for allowing this man to speak his truth. My mother is still in pain like Jay's mom. She often calls me from Philly to apologize to me for seeing that and to go through that.
Jay F**** Will..that’s it. The end. Just wow!!!!
Man, didn’t think a show w/o Fred was gonna be great but, it was awesome! Definitely tied with Beasley. Chan was so locked in and I was happy seeing this side of him. JWill gets so much respect from me. He definitely put a lot on the line. Hopefully he, Kyrie & Kev get a chance to talk shit out.
1. I wonder what the YT members of the team have feel when topics like this come up. Especially Alicia.
Black Power doesn’t mean anti anything else. We’ve been down for so long and folks told us this melanin was cursed but, God makes no mistakes!
Great question i wonder the same things..do they just feel awkward or do can they truly feel n see where they r coming from
Best episode so far. I know everyone love the Mike Beas joint but this one right here.. this is it
Guys,
This is such a an inspirational, heart warming and intelligent conversation. It is also spiritual to me.
The Kyrie segment was very good. This documentary has been around for a while and now everyone is so upset about it. Like it’s been said majority of the people didn’t watch the whole thing. Watch it and let’s have a discussion. Wish all analyst on tv would speak the way Jay, RC & Chan did. Well done guys.
I seen other podcasts host speak on the situation they admit they still watch the doc or didn't read the book but they still consider it to be conspiracy theories which is them just wanting to jump on a hot topic, is still ppl being short sighted & small minded
I went through the same watching my dad beat my mom. Like he said seeing that everyday is traumatizing!! But I can only show my future kids different and what I want them to see. Thanks Jay
Respect!
Didn’t use to like Jay Will, but ever since he stood up for Kyrie my energy changed towards him.
I love and appreciate how J Will represent us in the media. Very well spoken articulate brother. Much Respect 🙏🏾
This will be my second favorite interview behind Coach Tomlin. JWill, you're definitely MORE than a man...a damn good one to your family. Keep up the great work gents! I love the Pivot!!
This man is a national treasure and very intelligent media personality.
You can tell he did a lot of self reflection and through his pain and suffering helping a lot of folks.
This was a necessary conversation to have! You gentlemen articulated the conversations and questions very well! Well done ❤
Refreshing episode! Y’all boys don’t miss…. Loved this and can’t wait to have the OG back on 🔥
Jay Wills story about his parents was profound... Very touching... Black men must work hard to be better men, husband's to their wives and better father's to our children.
The emotion and the genuine and raw conversation of this interview was truly inspiring and amazing. I shed multiple tears. Thank you RC, Channing and Fred for always having such beautiful conversations with your guests. This is my FAVORITE podcast.
I truly love this interview and the fact that these men aren't afraid to show emotion and to be honest about life experiences and how it made them feel. Respect to J. To speak on how he helped his wife after she gave birth because if alot of men seen it this way the respect level will shoot thru the roof.
46:42 - MAN I love Channing. Yes, he is the comic relief. But Channing has a way of getting straight to the core of a serious topic with just one short question.
Great ep!🔥🔥🔥
Crowder’s “your welcome” when he walks in a room is a great example of why I (even as a white male who went to and all black high school in KC) will never ever fully understand what it’s truly like to be black. This pod is amazing. Hats off to you fellas for the great guests, context and perspectives. I also love how you aren’t predictable with your questions like all the other pods.
This interview is so profound, I salute everyone for making this interview happens, i can’t wait to watch this interview again with my wife and kids tonight. Thank you all, this was a perfect interview, I miss the presence of Fred T.
It’s powerful to see men’s have a conversation.
When I think about The Pivot I think about the movies Antwon Fisher, how Dr. Davenport listen to Antwon and helped him deal with his past for a better today.
Thank you The Pivot
This guy is great at articulating his feelings.
This is one of ya"ll best. I am so happy to HEAR Jay....I've watched you on the various shows and have seen your expressions of disappointment and measured responses to SAS and others. This interview allowed the depth. Allowed you to finished a thought process. Nice to meet you sir and I wish you nothing but the best on your future endeavors...SAS gonna have a hard time firing you now. You have a ground swell of support but whoever you end up you'll be just fine.
This conversation was very deep and thought provoking. But if Freddy T was there. It would have probably been way pass deep. I could have been crying. I miss my Freaky Freddy Flowers. But RC and Chan seriously holding it down on this one. Jay W is a great human being. I wish he could start a reconciliation tour for all cultures. Made me want look in the mirror a little bit deeper.
Please tell me Fred is coming back,is he okay?
@@drewbranch7700 yes he went on a Trip. I was worried myself at first.
@@Laurenforjustice 👊🏽
Very thoughtful conversation salute Jay Will . As a Bulls fan his injury was devastating until D. Rose . On the domestic/parent issue ,I also felt it was my opportunity to write a new chapters for my family and legacy.
This might be the greatest interview on the channel. It's not about sports it's about life and that's what this channel touched. Keep this shit going
👍
By far one of the best episodes. Anybody can podcast, not everyone can pivot!!!
💯
As a 59-year old Black man, I still grapple with my identity and my place in this world today, but I continue to diligently search for the truth.
What I just stumbled upon with this interview with Jason Williams, is a gift sent from Heaven!
I have watched several Pivot interviews, but this is the most candid and thought- provoking one that I've seen yet.
I applaud Jay for his authenticity on everything that he elaborated on. You are really doing yourself a disservice when you go against your beliefs.
I really understand Kyrie Irving now and I will never question his motives again.
At the end of the day, the poetic line from the movie: The Great Debaters, brings everything into context.
"Who's the judge"?
The judge is God!
And why is he God?
Because he decides who wins and who loses, not your opponent!
Whose your opponent?
He doesn't exist!
Why doesn't he exist!
Because he is a mere dissenting voice of the truth that I speak!
All-in-all: SPEAK THE TRUTH AND IT SHALL SET YOU FREE!
RC was so on point about the backlash for an unfinished thought……I see that ish when y’all are on the show! It takes a special person with a special talent to be able to deal with that.
✅✅✅💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💯💯💯
Just don't miss. Jay Will speaks with passion and depth. Love the show.
Absolutely a great show! Thank you! There needs to be a part 2. ❤❤
I'm a grown man. Why am I crying?
This is the realist show ever and I watched them all.
JWill- man- for you to open up like that, I'm rethinking.
Great show!!
"If I'm comfortably with me then why does it matter what other people think of me?" FACTZZZZ!!!!!!
Fellas I left a comment on the last video about why is nobody talking about our brother Kyrie, I respect you a lot for standing tall and talking about this.
I was wondering if they were going to talk about this
So Deep. Yall are really preaching a word right now.
This episode was amazing fr… it’s humbling to see that there’s alot of people that want better for all of us.. I feel like i could listen to this for a few more hrs.. good job men
To learn you must teach. These guys are learning as they teaching their audience. Intelligent, articulate and cathartic. Much appreciated
Edit: RC saying he appreciates knowing the JWill that he is today due to the adversity he went through was downright bad ass! Respect
This is one of my top five pivot shows. He was very honest and truthful in telling his story. Thank you for doing this interview.
What a truly incredible episode, wish Fred would've been there for this one
Yeah this episode and the one with Micheal Irvin I wish Fred was on
Thanks for another informative, enlightening Pivot Podcast, Channing C., Ryan C., and Jay W. We missed you Fred T. It has been another unique experience being a part of Jay W.'s life experience and perspective.
It's sad that people such as these gentleman struggle to have conversations publicly because they're trying to navigate people's feelings by saying the right thing, the right way at the right time. As a listener and one who is in a conversation, it is your responsibility to not jump to conclusions about the person's intent and to digest fully what is being said. Context and intent are vitally important in conversation! Thank you for the another great episode!
Keep doing what y’all do. Y’all are needed, these conversations are important, refreshing, and even relieving. Another great interview, thank you ✊🏾🫶🏾
I absolutely loved this episode, 1A. 1B with the Beasley episode. Hit you in the feels, and makes you look deep inside yourself
Truth!!
I agree. This JW episode and the Beasley episode, I call it 1A and 1A...both are ones that tug at your soul....
I’ve been in a major Pivot binge. Everyone needs to watch this podcast. Nothing better then real talk about real shit. At the end of the day, everyone bleeds red. It’s a damn shame everyone can’t see that. This episode needs to be played in all schools FR! Much love to these men. ✌🏼 and ❤
The biggest blessing is the lessons learned from failure
Well said. Some of the more authentic people in the media that I can actually listen to and learn. Thankful
I rock with Jay Will 👊🏿
Best college player ive ever seen with my own eyes. Wouldvd been a hall of famer. Cp3 2.0.....what i loveee is how he has bounced back. When it kinda first happened or a few years after and he did interviews you could see the despair in his face, in his soul honestly. Beautiful to see him redeemed and thriving. You go black man
Man, definitely one of the best episodes Pivot team! Jay Williams, thanks for sharing from your heart! Loved every minute!
I'm almost 74 years old and you young Brothers cannot imagine how happy and proud I am to see you learn the game.
After the Bill Cosby lynching at Master's instructions, that our Tribe conducted, I almost gave up on your generation. But this new growth has re-generated me. But don't limit yourselves, don't try to catch up; aim for empire. You've been taught to compete since your first breath, as athletes you've always fought to be on top. Don't stop now.
Tribe first.
Black is best.
Probably a long shit but I’d love to see Ray Rice on the pivot
He’s pretty much disappeared after his retirement
That's a great recommendation.
Ray rice is a long sh*t?
He do TV shows bout on fox
I think he will do it need to do a interview asap that would be a good one.
Another AMAZING episode Fellas!!!! Much love to Jay Will and his family
A man who stands up for what he believes in, who is principled and recognizes who he is and what he wants to be, who understands the shoulders that he stands on, is a man that I wholeheartedly respect. I salute you Jay Williams!
Thanks to Pivot thanks to Jay. Keep putting out this amazing and powerful content
The Greatest Statement Every Melanin Rich Person Should Know.... 24:10..."You Can Be Pro Black without Being Anti Everyone Else"....Take Those Words on Your Journey Beautiful People! ✌🏾👑🌏
A man say mane. As a United States Disabled Veteran, I wanna thank yall for starting the conversation. This here is something deep!! But Yall 3 are the 3 that need to bring this to Black America. If they hear this we can start them old Barber Shop Conversations! Thats what we missing just being able to have Conversation!!!
Man I thought Channing was a clown just for comic relief but he is good. The whole show is really good.
This was a great episode. It's indepth and reflective in a way that shows how he's grown as a person.
You guys continue to have great shows that talk about real issues that make people think and get real insight of people's lives outside of their sports or on tv persona. My favorite podcast!
Jay Williams episodes was the most prolific and honest and greatest articulation of pain turned into a love for something else
Ryan C.'s message regarding the intention of someone's action(s) is spot on. The explanation of how the intention is received is important, as well as, the person sharing how it affects him/her. This goes back to Jay W.'s message that their needs to be an exchange between people. We ALL must do a much better job in communicating with one another and there must be empathy, which is NOT given, consistently, to ALL.
I'm about 40 min in and this conversation is so powerful. I would highly recommend folks check out J. Wills book 'Life Is Not An Aacident' where he really dives into his career the ups and downs the depression the triumph. It's a resounding emotional roller coaster. Love hearing this dude speak and RC and Channing are killing it!
I absolutely love and appreciate what these brothers are doing. These conversations are a must...
“You can be pro black and not anti anything else”
Thank you for this nuanced conversation, those in the past and the ones to come
JayWill a real one. I disliked him for his takes in the past but hearing him speak his truth and not a script is a big difference. Brother God Bless you I pray for anyone with suicidal thoughts, your family needs and loves you !!!!
I love this episode I think you guys touched on topics that most people are afraid to talk about and I appreciate this as a black man this gave me great enthusiasm to discover mev and not being afraid of being me. I now have a deep respect for jay will after this and I only wish freaky Fred was there because this is his element of conversation and I hope u guys bring j will back when Fred is back on the show.
Jay William has earn my love and respect for life..brother ain't perfect but his real.

This was the most fruitful and beautiful conversation I have heard publicly amongst black men in a very long time. Much respect and honor to you all. Solute! ✊🏿
This is a great conversation but I’ve been thinking of the questions/comments that Fred would have!!
I have to admit I thought this guy was pretentious, This interview gave me a better understanding of who he is where he came from and where he’s going. Gain a new respect for this brother. I’m a fan for what that’s worth…
Finally someone who is not afraid to speak up much respect!!!
JayWill just earned everything with me. @pivot y’all just earned support forever.
Channing’s interviewing skills have elevated! I love seeing the growth. This was one of the best interviews.
Thank you for standing up for Kyrie J.Will
I was once a Jay Williams hater for Duke and never really given a damn about his basketball prowess.. But once I learned of his accident, I was feeling bad for him. Then when he got to ESPN and started speaking? I realized how great of a man this man really is.. How he reflects when he speaks and how he's the type of person that doesn't talk down to you but talks across to you and how much a fellow king he is.. He seems like a great person to be around and to know to call a friend. I like you Jay Will and hope the next chapter for you goes smoothly and prosperous. ✅💯💪🏾
Channing question took jay back to his childhood days.. you can hear the pain in his voice. This show has truly became therapy for a lot of people.
