It's genuinely embarrassing how bad the current government is, a thousand times worse than I expected. What we're looking at is multiple decades worth of managed decline being accelerated in a short period. It's not going to get any better, there's too many unaccountable bureaucrats as well as dogmatic politicians committed to whatever "the party line" is, or whatever their ideology is to effect any positive change for the people of this country. Unless there's radical change in the way this country is run, soon, the UK is pretty much done for, effectively a failed state. The saddest and most frustrating part is watching all of this happen in real time, their mistakes are so BLINDINGLY obvious.

No need for physical prisons except as gulag style factories producing rented goods. 80% of cars gone, only electric ones for the remaining public sector workers and large corporate employees which will include the trades construction etc. All planned out and not hard to find. One of the indications of a bubble is when people who know nothing at all about the underlying "new advantage" (which usually has more substance than SP [statistical processing, called by naive people "AI"]) start piling in and saying "no price too high".
Stage 4 of the bubble, euphoria is driven by the Starmers of this world (and his, um, "advisers", those 20-somethings with their PPE degrees). Personally I'm already into stage 5, profit-taking.

The AI data-centre stuff is interesting. Blair's TBI has made a big push for this Gov to embrace AI and also push for public private partnerships to solve the problems with state institutions. The idea being the Gov works with Microsoft or whoever, gives them these resources and access to whatever data they need, and we get a (more) functional NHS, or Gov ID system or whatever.
Perhaps the energy costs will break this idea, or perhaps it will just mean that whatever tech company is partnered with will be subsidised and the costs will kill competition.

Honestly, we should just all build military weapons and hardware. We have the infrastructure and given the state of the world, there will always be a motivated buyer down and pipeline.
I know it’s unpleasant but honestly a guaranteed growth sector over the next decade will be military.
AI is banded about because the average joe thinks it’ll be easy and should really help. The reality is joe will be out of a job and the taxes Joe would’ve paid will be exported as profits to the US. Joe will have to get innovative. Government thinks this means Joe will re-train. But Joe is lazy and tired, so will go on the sick until retirement… This is what happened after Covid, and will happen again.
AI will not boost the UK, but will continue to pull money out of the UK. This is the model of all US tech businesses, and AI will end up being outsourced to the US.
