UK Jobs Are Beginning To Collapse
UK Jobs have started to contract in the first months after the new Budget.
Wage growth continues to be high with a big increase to 5.6% in new data while job vacancies are falling and unemployment is rising.
With increases in National Insurance and minimum wage on the way, this is very concerning for the UK Economy.

UK Economy Crashes Into Recession

The UK Economy is now in a recession for the 6 months to November with two consecutive 3-month periods of negative GDP growth. At the same time, the future outlook is for the economy to contract in 2025 as pressure from increases in tax and minimum wage are hurting the Production industry. Keir Starmer and Rachel Reeves continue ignoring the data and stifling growth while the media celebrates t...

Keir Starmer just announced that the UK will fix its economy by going all in on AI. UK Businesses Say A Recession Is Imminent

A brand new survey by the British Chambers of Commerce says that the UK economy is imploding, business confidence is falling and prices are about to go up. The tax increases in the autumn budget from Rachel Reeves are causing the UK economy to slow down and while the Bank of England is reducing rates, the UK Government is inducing an increase in inflation.

    I work in IT and it is littered with low paid Indian workers, i welcome them however not at the expense of our own labor force. Usually it takes me 2-3 weeks to get a new job, it's taken me 12 months and its not just me it's friends and colleagues, Linked in is littered with people with the looking for work label on their profile.

    Sasha seems to have something of a fixation on the UK. What structurally is the difference between the present day and what the Tories left behind six months ago? Who says the real desire is to "fix the economy"? Starmer is in the pocket of the Tony Blair Institute and it's Tone who wants the shift to AI.

      @@SashaTakesOnUK Ok fair enough Sasha I think we need to look beyond the standard macro-economic interpretations of what's going on, be they Left or Right wing analyses What's for certain is if Reeves persists with spending cuts, the real economy is going to continue to stagnate since that simply takes money out of the private sector

  • @Phil-n7c
    @Phil-n7c 2 дня назад

    The economy was contracting by the end of the second quarter last year i.e before the budget. We have structural unemployment and have done since 1976 when Full Employment was abandoned as government policy. The headline figure for unemployment benefit is 1.7 million but there are at least another one million out of work who don't claim unemployment benefit either because they have too much in savings, the stigma or don't want to go to the Job Centre every day which is the rule after six weeks. No one ever discusses the total number of job vacancies on the side of the ledger: 818,000 at the last count. So clearly not enough work for all those who need it despite the endless rhetoric about "people living on benefits". The figure for the quarter before that was 841,000 so there's not really much here that can be attributed to Reeves. It's all just a continuation of the same old neoliberal BS

    Wages are not really growing in the UK though, they've been basically stagnant since the 2008 crash. If you look on most job boards, the salaries, if anything, are going backwards and not forwards. Most industries are barely even giving their employees 1% pay increases come annual reviews, many of them have been freezing pay. The only notable increase has been to the minimum wage. With the NI and tax changes, I can't see things getting better any time soon.

    Okay I'm a fan and like to hear your analysis, but as someone who literally works in the ONS I feel I need to correct your little tirade: Firstly, RTI Payroll Data is "official statistics in development" i.e. experimental, jobs data is to be used together with Work Force Jobs, Labour Force Survey etc estimates, rather than as a standalone measure. Also, data are revised that far back due to many reasons, including changes in estimates of population, changes in imputation, changes in methodology. This happens more frequently and with greater variability with statistics that are in development. If you bothered to read the appendices you'd know this....

    • @SashaTakesOnUK
      @SashaTakesOnUK 3 дня назад

      So you change payroll data estimates 10.5 years later by a significant factor and then roll back that change the next month because of updates to the estimates in population, etc. I don’t mean to be rude here, but this smells like bulls**t. Have a think for yourself without your work hat on. What you have is a model where some multipliers are updated and they ho and update all the old data unintentionally. You can tell it is a modelling screw up because in the months when this happens ALL the historical estimates have a big movement. This is a s**t modelling problem, not new data coming in. I apologise, but I know enough maths to call complete BS when I see it in the numbers.

    • @NateeeeeDawggggg
      @NateeeeeDawggggg День назад

      @@SashaTakesOnUK Had to read beyond the appendices to figure out exactly what was going on (this is not my publication area): RTI Data isn't sample, its is in fact population data straight from HMRC. Caveat that its an estimate as it doesn't count some employees that it should based on whether they submit PAYE data to HMRC. Only modelling occurs in latest period with imputation due to having to wait for company returns, hence why the flash estimate should be taken with a bigger pinch of salt. Since this is data companies must submit to HMRC for tax purposes, revised periods going back to July 2014 is due to either late returns, recalculation due to fraud, recalculation due to mistakes companies have made when submitting. As this system only came into place the year previous to the first period, and this publication only started in 2020, they are still receiving data from HMRC for all periods. Further, in terms of % difference, taking that~7000 change you cited, its approx. 0.02% of the total, not exactly a massive change. In my experience, this could be one large employer who's put a number in the wrong box etc, only to submit a correction the next month, and trust me this happens way more than you would believe. Happy to chat to you properly on a call, but the "Quality assurance of administrative data used in earnings and employment from PAYE RTI" article explains all your points. Well, unless you think there is some massive ONS/HMRC conspiracy.

    Why do I not care very much? Possibly because I've never had a job since I was 23 or so, 40 years ago. Jobs are a bit shit: from 4 decades ago, I remember looking at the clock, thinking: gah, hours to go. HOURS to go. Not having a job hasn't stopped me becoming comfortably well-off, no mortgage on detached house in London, money in GIAs (because each year I'm maxed out on ISAs and pensions by the end of April), etc.
