The mets plan was a 2-3 year retooling according to Cohen, I doubt Ohtani would want to waste any more time with teams that aren't competitive now. They're about to get rid of Alonso and Senga is their only good starter
The Giants are in a heavily competitive league in the NL West especially with AZ looking to be legitimately good. Going to the Giants wouldn't give him a better chance at winning a WS compared to staying on the Angels. As a Padres fan, it's sad to say this but Ohtani will likely be a Dodger as they do have the best track record out of all NL West teams.
@@wesleycorrigan7736 valid point. They also have the Rangers who also made the WS this year, but then there are the A's. I kinda see it this way: the Astros are like the Dodgers, dominant in their division with an outstanding track record and maintaining a balanced team, the Mariners are kinda like the Dbacks with young talented players who are looking like legitimate teams, the Rangers are sort of like the Giants only Giants are behind on many aspects but they have the potential, the Angels are kind of like the Padres with their superstars and lots of potential but never seem to carry out, and the A's are kinda like the Rock... nvm the Rockies are a far better team. I do admit the AL is a much tougher league all around but in terms of division, I just don't see how Ohtani leaving the Angels to go to the Giants would give him more success in winning a championship. I see Ohtani being a Dodger as a more successful outcome for him (it would be like him going to the Astros) and this is coming from a terrified Padres/ Ohtani fan.
He wants to win. The question is does he want to be the transformation for a mid tier team or just a piece of an already winning team? If it’s the latter, he is better off in Seattle or San Diego. Not San Francisco.
The Giants hiring Bob Melvin is almost identical to them hiring Bruce Bochy back in 2007. Former catcher who was the manager of the Padres, now managing the Giants with one year left on his contract with the Padres
I told you! I’m from Los Angeles, I’ve been to San Francisco recently and it’s by far the worst looking city in California. Why would he want to play there over LA?
I could see it. Honestly love your videos man, always a well thought out and considerate approach to your breakdowns. I still think the Dodgers, Astros, and Rangers are all strong contenders
Dodgers seem to think the exact same thing. Ultimately it’s up to Shohei, and the Dodgers have that edge of winning for almost a whole decade. We’ll see won’t we.
I’ve seen the Giants be thrown around a lot, but I just don’t see it happening. After going massive in 2021, they’ve been on a steep decline, and now they have to retool their lineup to get back in contention. I do see the front office - which seems to have deluded itself into thinking the Giants are World Series bound - going after him, but I also think he will decline because they are clearly not on the right path.
As a Giants fan, this really makes sense and I REALLY WANT THIS TO HAPPEN with every fiber of my being. But then again I just don’t see it happening. Why? Because Zaidi has proven time and again that he’s unable to negotiate contracts with the the bigger free agents. All Zaidi (and the front office) does is dumpster dive in free agency for a discount deal on the nearest injury prone veteran. And plus with his comment on not adding starting pitching depth it just doesn’t seem promising. I’ll believe it when I see it.
A huge Wild Card team that I think should look into signing him are the Mariners. The owner is Japanese and Ichiro can help sell the team to him. They have a great young team, just need to get over the hump.
I really hope you're right. Zaidi went to Japan in pursuit of Yamamoto as well and I imagine landing him would be encouraging for Ohtani. One or two other big moves could really sweeten the deal to demonstrate that commitment to winning now.
In Japan, Ace pitchers would avoid pitching on the same team. They take pride in being the sole true Ace of a franchise and I believe signing Yamamoto would be a turn off for ohtani joining the giants.
It’s a huge risk paying him market value as a TOR pitcher in addition to as a slugger. One injury and you’re down your best pitcher and hitter. Elbow issues and you’re paying $20-25 million for a guy whose solely a position player and or reliever.
Giants fans we also have to keep in mind that while he is a two way player he is also a pitcher and the giants have been really touchy about giving pitchers big contracts, i would love to see the giants get a big star like otahni but it is gonna take a lot and this rebuilding process needs to speed up…a lot for all of this to work out.
Ken Kendrick’s only getting older and the money doesn’t go with him to whatever comes after. 15 years, $735 million, of which about 30-55% is deferred money. Also Kendrick should put money into stadium renovations, he can certainly afford it
I think people are really underestimating the money aspect of it. “But he said he wants to win.” Yeah him and every other player. I’m not saying he’s going to go straight to the team that gives him the most money but I am saying that none of the teams who are generally outside of top ten in payroll have a chance (sorry mariners fans but it’s time to stop the cope, y’all are too poor). Realistically the Dodgers have everything he’s looking for - huge fan base, west coast, a team full of star power, win now potential, and of course very deep pockets. I see the Giants just being a bargain bin Dodgers in regards to all of the things a free agent would be looking for. The only reason I would ever see Ohtani going to the Giants instead is if they overpaid heavy, because as long as the Dodgers want him, they will easily be able to afford a realistic offer for him.
Despite having a couple losing seasons, the Giants are a winning franchise with meaningful history. This makes the Giants a good fit for Ohtani. Plus the Giants know this off season is important. Get ready to see the Giants on the rise
@@juansantamaria7476 A couple losing seasons? They only have one winning season since 2014. Ohtani will not sign with the Giants. He wants to be on a winning team.
The Ohtani contract will absolutely DESTROY any team he goes to! Anyone who signs him won’t EVER win a championship! If you’re going to pay ONE person a half of a billion dollars, that person should contribute every game. If he gets hurt hitting, he can’t pitch. If he gets hurt pitching, he can’t hit. Already he has to miss 2024 and not pitch so you lose HALF the value on this trade. Not to mention, if he slows the rehab process or gets hurt while batting next year then you’ll lose all value attached to him. MAX I’d give him a two year contract. Once he rehabs and proves he can pitch every five days and DH every day then I’ll toss in the money he deserves. Until then, this contract will easily destroy any team in baseball! Too many people think what he’s doing in the league is a rare occurrence, but most don’t realize this. In the US, for years we’ve advocated for our athletes to pick one attribute they’re good at and stick to it. If you grew up in high school or college and could pitch AND hit, once you got to the minor leagues they MADE you choose one or the other. Why?! Because again you’re a liability if you get hurt hitting then you can’t pitch. If you get hurt pitching then you can’t hit. In Japan, they’re very accepting and accommodating of two way players. This is evident when you see just how many two way players have developed in overseas baseball as opposed to the US. Isn’t it funny that now the US is accepting of two way players as several of them were drafted this year?! I like Shohei, but what he’s doing isn’t that special. He’s the perfect storm of being the best at baseball in a market where we literally don’t allow two way players to exist! If he wants a ring, he’ll take a pay cut, plain and simple. Because of Ohtani, the US will let the flood gates open and allow for more two way players to be a part of baseball, and they will arrive sooner than you think. Anyone who signs Ohtani to a long term contract will feel the effects of that IMMEDIATELY, while other teams reap the benefits years later!
As a giants fan I would love to see them pursue Ohtani. However, this is why that isn’t going to happen. As a power hitter chasing home run records, going to San Fransisco would be one of the worst places to play. The cold foggy weather and tall right field wall makes it extremely hard to hit home runs. We’ve seen this and haven’t had a single player hit over 40 home runs since Barry Bonds. It also makes sense that Aaron Judge didn’t want to go to Giants because his home run numbers would have gone down significantly. I believe Ohtani will most likely go to the dodgers where he can play in a more hitter friendly ballpark and have a chance to break records
Ohtani will not sign with the Giants for several reasons. He wants to be on a winning team, which the Giants are not. They only have ONE winning season since 2014. Second, The Giants will be outbid. The Giants GM is a cheap liar. Zaidi should be fired!
With the monster payroll already allocated to Freeman and Betts? Nope. SF doesn’t have that payroll problem. Tons of room to offer whatever they want to get him. No huge contracts on their books. Will they? Who knows. They have too many holes to fill. That and I don’t trust Farhan to reel in a big fish. He and the ownership group up to this point have been far too cheap. The Giants will probably sign someone like Matt Chapman, and a few other “complimentary pieces” and call it a good productive offseason. Which would be a kick in the balls to any Giants fan. The Dodgers right now desperately need pitching. Not two yrs from now. They have plenty of offense. Great pitching and defense wins championships. They have the defense, just not enough quality healthy arms to pitch.
As a giants fan I've been trying to speak this into existence. 🤞 Padres got no money to sign Ohtani said he wants to stay on Westcoast because time zones with japan.
The time zone doesn’t matter. Most of the games here are in the morning anyways west coast or east coast, there’s going to be some games that’s late but most of it are on the morning. He could sign with any team and the time zone is going to be fine.
@@therealjaystone2344The AL west is just too competitive now, I would avoid it at all cost, if I’m Shohei. The Astros and the Rangers then the Mariners. Its probably the toughest division this year when it comes to star power.
The west coast bias is more likely due to closer to home. Easy flights. Great video, except you should have made it about the red sox. Get him to Boston!
It’s a good thing iTalk isn’t right most of the time. I like his takes but I feel comfortable saying he won’t sign with the Giants. We’ll just have to wait and see though 🤷🏽♂️
I thought I heard last year that he told the Giants not to bid for him as they had just gone through Judge and Correa and he didn't want the fans disappointed again. I've felt he'd go to the Dodgers but as a 60 year Giants fan, I'd love to see him come here. It'll be interesting to see
Even if the giants and the doggers get him they would not win the ws, both teams need pitching, giants need batting too, so no i dont think he will win in sf, but i think he will sign there tho, doggers dont want to spend.
I wonder if him being from Japan, playing for the SF Giants would be in a way an honor to him as the Tokyo Giants are the biggest team in Japanese baseball. Taken from a article about the Tokyo Giants, "Not only were they the first professional team, they are the winningest and arguably most popular team in Japan..."
But as someone watches NPB, everyone on other teams doesn't like Tokyo Giants just like how every MLB fan outside of Yankees fans doesn't like Yankees. It's basically the same saying Ohtani is going to choose Yankees because they are popular
Ohtani will sign with the Rangers. They were a Final 3 finisher last time and that's when they were terrible. The Rangers are set up to be a juggernaut for years and the players love playing there and for Bochy. Plus they have plenty of money available. A lineup of Carter, Seager, Ohtani, Adolis, Jung, Semien, Lowe, Heim and Langford would just be unfair. To flash forward to 2025, a SP of deGrom, Ohtani, Montgomery, Eovaldi, plus whatever big get they acquire when they deal Leody Tavares and Ezekiel Duran (a SS capable of hitting 25 HRs and hitting 3rd for most teams) to add to a top 10 farm system will be scary. If he wants to win, this would be a dynasty.
As a Giants fan, I don't think he should come here. I want him to win a bunch of World Series rings. The Giants are not a serious team anymore, or Bochy and Sabian would still be there. Go to the Rangers! Winning team, great management, set to win for years.
GIANTS FANS…DON’T FORGET WHO JUST WENT TO THE WS AND WH0 JUST WON THE WS…!? The Texas Rangers and The Arizona Diamondbacks would be the teams to be beat next year, not the Giants!!
If I’m San Fran, I offer a 3 year deal worth $120M USD, where year 1 is at $30M USD, year 2 is a player option at $40M USD, and year 3 is a player option at $50M USD. If the Giants or Shohei want to restructure or extend, that can happen, and if the Giants need to move him, the contract isn’t going to make him an unmovable asset like Judge or Tatis.
Ohtani will sign with the Dodgers, but Giants will get Yamamoto because Yamamoto won't want to be on same team with Ohtani (too much pressure to be compared)
I think the Giants possibly signing Shohei could be bigger than baseball, the whole city of San Francisco could possibly built off the attention possibly fixing the hell you see in the streets of the city. I know there are politics involved as well, but singing a Shohei and having with around town definitely good publicity for the city.
I agree. An additional point I think that you could have mentioned that I think hurts his chances with the Dodgers is the fact they're currently are in shambles with their pitching I feel. Them tacking on another 40M+ to their payroll for another hitter when they're deep in their lineup and could better spend that money on pitching for next season doesn't make as much sense to me. I think Giants get Ohtani & Dodgers pivot to Yamamoto & Snell to bolster their rotation significantly.
jpn TV pays 25M to the west coast team where Sho belongs. But.. it will be only 10M if he moved to the east! why? because.. The game in east coast usually start at 3 AM that no one watch tv in jpn. Therefore, ohtani is the cheap date for the team located in the west coast but, expensive for the east😅

I think it’s possible he goes to SF. I’m curious if saying he wants to stay on the West Coast applies here though. Anaheim and San Francisco are two pretty different places.
Money isn’t the problem with shohei he will get paid, its whatever plan franchise’s have to offer to win now and the future which is what the dodgers have there in win mode now and the future with a great farm system something the giants don’t have and aren’t in win now mode.
Is there any particular reason why the Cubs aren't being considered? He did consider them a lot initially and probably would have signed if they had a DH at the time.
As a homer, I think he would be better with the Braves. We have enough pitching for next year but could use a more consistent bat. Plus, the Atlanta area is primed for a Japanese super star to be marketed 😅
I wouldn’t sleep on Seattle either. They haven’t had a major signing recently, and they’ve showed signs of life recently with their playoff berth last year. Seattle has a huge Japanese-American population too. I can also picture them sending Ichiro over to Ohtani to persuade him.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Mareno added an extra $50 million past the highest bidder. It’d be a complete waste considering he didn’t ship him at the deadline for a massive farm haul out of contention.
The Giants' three best chances at getting him are: - the young players are on the rise and looking promising, system-wide - getting to play for Bob Melvin on a team he truly loves, and... - getting to pitch to Patrick Bailey. Patty Bats is an insane framer and partner for any pitcher. The Dodgers have proven they don't show up in the playoffs, and that miiiiiiight just be enough to deter Shohei.
To me the problem with shohei is he’s a huge gamble rn. I mean as a hitter he’s amazing but his pitching is way too up in the air. You really can’t count on him being a pitcher again if you’re planning out the future of your team. So I think that hurts his value quite a lot.
If the Dodgers want him, they will get him. Giants can't outbid Dodgers. They can push the number to where the Dodgers feel Snell and another all-star bat makes more sense. Still think they will sign Ohtani.
Buddy, where do dodgers get money if they ain’t winning money? World Series wins money, losing post season makes players turn heel like ohtani who won’t see a future with dodgers
The Giants can absolutely outbid the Dodgers if they need to, the dodgers had a $240m payroll last year and need to add quality pitching. There's no way they can shell out more AAV than the Giants, especially cause they're gonna be paying 50% extra for the luxury tax

showhey ohtani
He’s going to the Mets, they have the money. Mets will drop $600, that being said, I will be a fan of whichever team he goes too.
I don't know about that. There is no guarantee he will ever pitch again. Is his bat alone worth 600M?
@@ForestOfSleep He will definitely pitch again but I'm worried by the amount of innings he can throw. Maybe they should just make him a closer
The mets plan was a 2-3 year retooling according to Cohen, I doubt Ohtani would want to waste any more time with teams that aren't competitive now. They're about to get rid of Alonso and Senga is their only good starter
I definitely see this video not aging well
Not to mention Oracle park is pitcher-friendly, but was also built with left-handed power hitters *cough* Bonds *cough* in mind. It’s a perfect fit.
Angels gotta beat out the rangers Astros and mariners that’s harder then the NL west
Shohei Ohtani don’t wants no part of this losing teams, He already bring their and done that with the Angels.
I don’t wanna get my hopes up. Hopefully we get him. We definitely need him.
As an Angels fan, I will support whatever decision he makes. He has our hearts. Always will.
The #1 Reason: McCovey Cove
He wants to win. The question is does he want to be the transformation for a mid tier team or just a piece of an already winning team? If it’s the latter, he is better off in Seattle or San Diego. Not San Francisco.
San Francisco is a hell hole, I don’t think he wants to live in that city
I Told you
The Giants hiring Bob Melvin is almost identical to them hiring Bruce Bochy back in 2007. Former catcher who was the manager of the Padres, now managing the Giants with one year left on his contract with the Padres

Giants or Mariners will be dope especially since those are my 2 favorite teams
I could see it. Honestly love your videos man, always a well thought out and considerate approach to your breakdowns. I still think the Dodgers, Astros, and Rangers are all strong contenders
Somebody said the rangers might get ohtani . if that happens thats gonna be wild
i really hope he comes to SF a city known for it's two-way pitchers
Dodgers seem to think the exact same thing. Ultimately it’s up to Shohei, and the Dodgers have that edge of winning for almost a whole decade. We’ll see won’t we.
Losing in every post season? Yeah… we’ll see
I’ve seen the Giants be thrown around a lot, but I just don’t see it happening.
He got Correa ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
🙄
@@abnushagnasty805 And got nobody again this free agent 🤡🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think the Legal would be legitimately shocked if Ohtani stays with the angels
A huge Wild Card team that I think should look into signing him are the Mariners. The owner is Japanese and Ichiro can help sell the team to him. They have a great young team, just need to get over the hump.
I would love to see the Mariners win it all!
This is the prophecy
Hi! Italk I have been here since 45k subs
Good point about bob melvin. It does show that they’re probably going to be big spenders this year.
But their owner, Greg Johnson, said he wants to break even! That is NOT big spending!
It’s a huge risk paying him market value as a TOR pitcher in addition to as a slugger. One injury and you’re down your best pitcher and hitter. Elbow issues and you’re paying $20-25 million for a guy whose solely a position player and or reliever.
They better do something. The attendance at the new park had mostly been in the top 5 until 2018, and after that it's been between 10-15.
Come to Arizona Shohei we're an up and coming team 😢
So proud of your team! And what a gem your manager is!

I have been saying Giants would be Ohtani’s free agency landing spot since last year. It just makes sense.
No it does not. He wants to be on a winning team and the Giants are a losing team.
It makes zero sense lol, giants are not close to contending

Despite having a couple losing seasons, the Giants are a winning franchise with meaningful history. This makes the Giants a good fit for Ohtani. Plus the Giants know this off season is important. Get ready to see the Giants on the rise
@@juansantamaria7476 A couple losing seasons? They only have one winning season since 2014. Ohtani will not sign with the Giants. He wants to be on a winning team.
Ohtani will sign with Dodgers, already decided. This is an insider knowledge.
As a giant's fan I'd love to see it!!!
As a dodgers fan just hope this doesn’t happen
I think he’s either going to LA or SF so regardless that rivalry is not going away any time soon.
I’m a giants fan and I hope it does happen
Ohtani will not sign with the Giants for several reasons. He wants to be on a winning team, which the Giants are not. They only have ONE winning season since 2014. Second, The Giants will be outbid. The Giants GM is a cheap liar. Zaidi should be fired!
I'm calling it now. Shohei Ohtani is going to the Los Angeles...........Dodgers.
Ohtani is going to....... Seattle Mariners, to follow in Ichiro's steps.
As a giants fan I've been trying to speak this into existence. 🤞
Padres got no money to sign
Ohtani said he wants to stay on Westcoast because time zones with japan.
Could be AL too and Seattle can compete
The time zone doesn’t matter. Most of the games here are in the morning anyways west coast or east coast, there’s going to be some games that’s late but most of it are on the morning. He could sign with any team and the time zone is going to be fine.
@@therealjaystone2344The AL west is just too competitive now, I would avoid it at all cost, if I’m Shohei. The Astros and the Rangers then the Mariners. Its probably the toughest division this year when it comes to star power.
god i hope your right, we need to turn this team around, i will be ready to cry if it likely wont happen tho 😢

We thought the same with Judge, we know how that turned out
The west coast bias is more likely due to closer to home.

@@mirantilin like I said, I wonder, I'm not a Japaneseologist

@@tedjohnson7485 so you're saying America and Japan are different.... Gotcha! Thanks for that info
I’m still praying for the cubs
Ohtani will sign with the Dodgers, but Giants will get Yamamoto because Yamamoto won't want to be on same team with Ohtani (too much pressure to be compared)
I think the Giants possibly signing Shohei could be bigger than baseball, the whole city of San Francisco could possibly built off the attention possibly fixing the hell you see in the streets of the city. I know there are politics involved as well, but singing a Shohei and having with around town definitely good publicity for the city.
The city is at its decline and businesses are leaving as the city needs a shining of light
As a Giants fan, I approve this message. I really wish it would happen in this off-season. Fingers crossed.
a sleeper team that I think might be aggressive with trying to sign him is the Mariners.

2:42 It would be an interesting time to be all-in on pitchers in 2023, then cut both Scherzer and Verlander mid-season to go all-in on Ohtani’s batting prowess for 2024.
He could have made it to the world series with the Rangers. Crazy he was stubborn about being on the west coast/close to Japan.
Would LOVE Ohtani to come to SF. Now that the DH is league-wide, he doesn't need to be AL anymore
You guys are already stacked tho.
The f do you need Shohei for 😂 get more great pitchers, not more hitters.
On the east coast here, can someone explain why Bob Melvin gets no blame for what happened to the padres this past season?
Because it’s a team full of players who have insanely high egos
I think the Dodgers situation is better than the Giants so I think he goes there even if SF offers more I can see them getting Yamamoto.
The Giants' three best chances at getting him are:
- the young players are on the rise and looking promising, system-wide
- getting to play for Bob Melvin on a team he truly loves, and...
- getting to pitch to Patrick Bailey. Patty Bats is an insane framer and partner for any pitcher.
The Dodgers have proven they don't show up in the playoffs, and that miiiiiiight just be enough to deter Shohei.
there a lot going on in the front office rn. i dont think they will get him sucefully but as a giants fan i wanna see it
Might be a stretch considering the Giants had a losing record and the now defending world champion Rangers are most likely gonna be calling.
To me the problem with shohei is he’s a huge gamble rn. I mean as a hitter he’s amazing but his pitching is way too up in the air. You really can’t count on him being a pitcher again if you’re planning out the future of your team. So I think that hurts his value quite a lot.
Hoping this becomes a reality. I for one am ok if Ohtani just focused on hitting. He will definitely prolong his career if he did.
