Steven is a genius. I never saw this documentary, so never realized how they create, and he's a bona fide genius. When he first was at the piano I was kind of surprised, because although you can tell he knows the notes and keys, I really thought he just pecked at it and used left hand for some chords. But then a couple parts ago he's sitting at the grand piano playing like a real pianist. Then he's playing these other instruments, like the harmonica and guiro. Can hit those higher octaves with his voice, then he's clearly the originating/conceptualizing lyricist. Genius.
What a cool find. My wife worked with Kalodner at Atlantic from '78 to '80, when he took her to Geffen as his asst. until '89. Those days were flat-out crazy fun. She's retiring this very day after 40 years in the biz, yet these guys start a tour next April. Freaking amazing...
Scott Douglas MacLachlan ha! That’s amazing, she must have tons of great stories. Yes, and I will be seeing them in April too, always put on a great show.
@@sueellen360 We started dating in '82, so I was along for a lot of that ride, private backyard parties with these dudes at the president of Geffen's house, more after-parties, we picked up and babysat Bob Dylan's dog for a few months, she at Cher's home Christmas party, hung out too much with Coverdale/Sykes after concerts, as her job was to make sure everything was chill, and that all the right record company bigwigs got back stage or into the Forum Club kind of stuff, and I had my own crazy band stuff to deal with! lol We were so spent on concerts by '89, we bought a projector tv, had three kids, Geffen made a less demanding (A&R adminstrator) job for her, so another 10 years there, 9 at Warner Bros. Records, and 10 at Disney's Hollywood Records. Geffen himself stepped away in '96, and Kalodner hung in there until about 12 years ago, but he looked pretty happy at a Geffen reunion a few months ago. I just watched an Aerosmith concert at Donington, and though a few years old, they sure as hell still have it!
This was the video that made me want to learn how to record music. I have a MacBook open next to me right now with tracks stacked up, if it weren't for this video it wouldn't be there. Of all the ages of time on earth, knowing I got to live in the time of Aerosmith makes me happy 😊 🙏
I used to have this on video. I loaned it to a college/drinking buddy, and never saw it again. I love the behind the scenes stuff as their putting the album together. The arguments are all part of the process. Love every minute of the cockiness and insecurities. Make me an an album that will listen to front to back and then start over. Hell Yeah!
Those horn parts are tight. I like Joe’s rhythm against them too. Nice work

perhaps another word for genius is “talented” or “competent”

Love watching these “making of” videos, I nerd out over the process and the gear!

I love the way Joe talks. He's so cute 🥺❤

the scene at the end around 7:04 is so cute when steven says "but they're two old trucks! :(" everyone loved the name pump around the end hahahaah
At least those 2 trucks on the album cover (which is a pretty damn good album cover by the way) are as American as Aerosmith is. HEH HEH HEH!!!

the horn guys playing....I think that's David Foster and Bruce Fairburn (RIP Bruce )
I was around!
“But their two old trucks.”
“Cuz it’s hilarious”. Kalodner is such a geek.
How the hell did Tom get that scar on his arm? 10:29
The same people, but, with different hair color.
That's John fucking Lennon.
"Ain't Enough "should've been on Pump....
After listening to it a few times, I agree. Just think if this album contained Deuces are Wild, Sedona Sunrise and Devil In Disguise as well.
Why is that guy taking a photo at 3:31?
To get a record of where the eq and levels are for those channels on the board.
Lo veo borroso, soy yo o el video es así?
pumps; white sneeker years i don t miss...
Their producer is wearing a Metallica T-shirt....how disrespectful.
Metallica toured with Aerosmith on i believe the Permanent Vacation tour. It's a sign of respect, not disrespectful. They were buddies at that point.
James Hetfield of Metallica even said "Aerosmith......they made me wanna play guitar". Kirk Hammett even compared Joe Perry to the Lord above.
@@wseeback They toured with Guns N Roses on the PV tour.
