    Bruce’s matchup against Prison isn’t too bad, just requires you to manage your resources and watch what you soul blast.

    • @vazis
      @vazis  2 года назад +1

      I definitely agree that if you manage resources it can help a lot, but I think the matchup can be really bad especially if Prison goes first since it makes it a lot harder for Bruce to use some of its combo cards effectively like getting soul numbers for the SC 4 order and Bryan. This especially being the case if Prison rushes early to take advantage of Bruce in that capacity. Although if Bruce goes first they definitely have more opportunities available to them since they will have at least 1 turn to go full combo against Prison. Prison has the opportunity to go full combo back tho, so that one just depends on how aggressive Bruce gets to be versus how defensive Prison gets to be back I think. And if Prison guarded Bruce on turn 3 then they would be at 1 damage going into that turn (assuming no crit on Bruce's turn 2), so I would say that they have pretty good odds most things considered even though Bruce can get like +3 crit. Then the next turn is a lot more in Prison's court since Bruce would need to deal with the turn 4 and then still be able to build back up the resources to muster a good aggro again. Managing their resources definitely could allow Bruce to do more restand turns in the game for sure, but I think if Bruce doesn't get to try to go real crazy then it can be a pretty mid offense (at least for the G4).

    Wait, Greedon is quite good against Prison

    • @vazis
      @vazis  2 года назад

      I don't think the matchup is super favorable from what I can imagine at least since the soul manipulation from G4 Snow leaves Greedon on an uphill battle trying to maintain their number of cards in soul each turn (due to the need to sb2 to restand and they only really get 4 from rears and Snow taking 2 means they net even). Plus, they might have to lose out on certain other cards that buff VG like the G2 that gives him 5k so the VG attack won't really be too strong. A lot of other cards that can help Greedon hurt in the Snow matchup too since they are either CB/SB heavy or call another thing to the RG circle for another swing which can just benefit Prison more. Not to mention, Greedon doesn't really plus from drives too often unless you use one of the skills that increase that, so I imagine, from a hypothetical standpoint at least since I've never actually seen a fight of it personally, that it would be extremely tough for Greedon.
      There could definitely be something that I overlooked there though if there was a certain card or way to play that actually makes the matchup super good if you could tell me whether that is the case or not?

    • @BlackKyurem5
      @BlackKyurem5 2 года назад

      @@vazis It's quite easy for Greedon to soul charge, even more so now thanks to Dofund. Getting to 10 Soul even against Purelight isn't really a problem. You are also forgetting Greedon player chooses what cards from Soul go to damage so you can keep the important stuff in there
      It's more of an uphill battle for Purelight to get many cards in the Prison, they have to use effects to get Drop Zone, Soul and Deck into Prison as against Purelight, it's best for Greedon to leave an empty field, and then on your next turn, you just use Greedon to call from Prison for its skill so you don't have to worry about using your hand to do Greedon plays. When Purelight is used to rip 2 cards from hand, I just put in 2 cards I was going to call for next turn anyway. Because the limited Prison stops Purelight giving the front row from getting Criticals, they have to try to get to 7 damage with only 3 attacks
      If you pace your CB around Prison, Greedon easily walks all over Purelight

    • @vazis
      @vazis  2 года назад

      @@BlackKyurem5 Oh I didn't know about Dofund! That certainly helps for soul, but what I was referring to was more so that Greedon has a small 4 card soul once they hit G3, so they are comparatively limited in options to remove cards from soul so they can't have a ton of good pieces in there like Greedon usually can. Bofund certainly helps with that, but he doesn't help as much with Prison's win condition.
      Properly playing Prison in that matchup means that you limit the Greedon player's CB so that they can't just call 4 from Prison with it every turn. Prison would just swing with VG and give crits to rears and give 1 cb each turn, which would require the Greedon player to either SB to get cards back or call from hand. This would mean either weaker attacks or more cards in prison so that they could go for the 10 if they want, but it isn't the active game plan. The win condition for Prison is to deck Greedon out since Greedon would have around 28-30 cards in deck (assuming restand on first turn for max aggro and the average 2 damage, otherwise it could be an easy setup turn for Prison guarding Greedon's turn 3). Since Greedon takes 5 cards out of deck each turn at a minimum (for draw and 4 drives), excluding persona ride and cards like Bofund and such that SC or increase drives, and the one damage a turn would take 1 card out at a time too. After a little while, once the Greedon player is at crit for death range is when revealing a crit is super important since it would mean that the VG and the RG w/crit would need to be blocked on top of calling 4 from hand due to no CB (maybe a little with soul depending on how much you can afford, but hand would probably be better at that point). It can be worse if the RG to guard is the one that puts guardians to prison since it increases prison number and, with little resources, leaves no way to fetch them back.
      Another game plan the Prison deck could run with would be calling down a ton of aggro early to accelerate the game pace since if Greedon responded by calling rears then they would just be imprisoned and let the Prison deck get more in the way of power on G4 turn, which paired with the rush could sting a bit. So the main options are either to guard or to take hits which would just leave the match to what develops out of that. The Prison player could also consider, in this instance, not using the G4 effect to nab from soul so that the CB gained from the rush can't be used to gain back units and make it into a slug fest, but that one's just food for thought.
      This is what I would imagine optimal play would be for the Prison deck since just giving the outs to Greedon by feeding them damage with no other plan of action (like the rush or restricting them to deck them out) would be like handing them free cards lol, also apologies for the response being pretty long, but is there another counter-play option that you think Greedon has that I overlooked?

    • @BlackKyurem5
      @BlackKyurem5 2 года назад

      @@vazis Those Prison strategies aren't effective against Greedon when Greedon strategy against Prison is just Vanguard swing and hide your units in the soul. You seem to be speaking theoretically while I am speaking from experience as a Greedon main who has 2 mates at locals who main Prison.
      You are heavily underestimating Greedon ability to maintain soul in matchup, it's really not that hard at all
      Prison won't be able to damage deny Greedon effectively if Greedon is the only thing that can attack, unless they want to forfeit Vanguard attacks which just makes the kill turn much for difficult to pull off since you'll be trying to go from something like 0-2 all the way to 7 while Greedon has a hand they didn't bother guarding with before.
      If you don't have kill pressure already, rushing against Greedon is a bad idea since it'll trigger the 5k in the Soul so much faster. I often no guard early game.
      The only strategy that works is hoping the Greedon player decks out, however Greedon is getting a new support card that prevents Greedon from decking out at the cost of only 1 Prison target for leaving it out there so that strategy will fly out the window.

    • @vazis
      @vazis  2 года назад

      @@BlackKyurem5 I'm just trying to discuss optimal strategy here, not attack Greedon. Every deck has weak points otherwise they would be tier 0 and that's why knowing matchups is always so important, to know what your deck can do to best exploit those weaknesses while hiding your own. I also have a friend who is really good with Prison and I've fought against him a lot and know Prison inside and out which is why I was comfortable making this video.
      The Prison deck would want to only give one damage a turn by swinging VG to VG so they don't want to damage deny, they want to damage restrict. They would also want to stall Greedon below 4 so Bushokku doesn't go online and guarding is easier. Then they allow Greedon to deck out through not having a lot of options to increase aggression. As for the rush option, I understand that Greedon would likely no guard in order to have Bushokkus active, but that is the point of accelerating the game state since being at high damage can still be a little risky even if the Greedon player has guard that they didn't use early since power can get really high after turn 4 and it will take a lot more to guard one attack, and the unit that puts guard cards to prison could increase the power gain as well during those turns.
      I also made this video with the support at the time in mind since a lot of decks will definitely change over time and will become better able to deal with more outcomes. Desire Devil, Codok definitely makes it so that the stall tactic is less likely to be effective, but then Prison could adapt in turn with other cards too in the event that there is something to help them available.
