  • This is one of a series of videos intended primarily for as training aids for clergy and others on how to conduct services according to the Book of Common Prayer (1662) in the Church of England. Please see also the ‘Narrated’ version of the same service, which includes a voiceover giving suggestions as to how the service might be used in practice, with common variations.
    This video presents the original 1662 version of the service for the Solemnization of Matrimony. We also have demonstration videos for the alternative ‘Series 1’ form (very close to 1928). Both versions are authorized for use in the Church of England.
    The video was recorded at St James’s, Sussex Gardens (Paddington), in London.

    What an absolutely beautiful service. This is what the marriage service should be like. Beautiful yet dignified and religious. It's a serious commitment to get married. And I think that's a problem with a lot of couples today. Is that they love each other. But they are not taking the religious and the dignified part, well seriously. The Church of England needs to bring this back. Along with the real {1662} Book of Common Prayer.

      It doesn’t need to be brought back - it is always there to be used when appropriate and asked for. It is the keystone of Anglican liturgy.

      @@paulknight9260 Try asking for it in most parishes. And see the response you'll get. Also, like trying to find a High Church service in most parishes. The analogy of the needle in a haystack comes to mind.

    Aw, he didn't get to kiss the bride? :( That was a beautiful and touching service, though, so plain and simple and yet very reverent.

    No wonder they call it the "solemnisation" of marriage. Very big and serious vows to make, scary actually. But so beautiful ❤

    Did the 1928 revision delete the verses about “to satisfy men’s carnal lusts and appetites like brute beasts “?

    Good Afternoon, in the prayer book exist a "gay union"? the anglicans accept this form of matrimony? Thanks :)

    • @prudencedailey4144
      @prudencedailey4144 5 лет назад +19

      No. There is no provision for same-sex marriage, or any other type of same-sex union, in the Book of Common Prayer of the Church of England. There are, however, other Anglican Provinces that do accept this, and disagreement within the Church of England between those who support the current doctrine (as expressed in the Prayer Book), and those who want it to change.
