These mid 1970's Tonkas are a dime a dozen. Before I worked on it, it was worth around $30. Restored in original condition, might be worth $60. It's really a toss up either way, but the right collector might like the uniqueness of a custom paint job. With the right collectors going after this one, it might end up going for $80-$100. There are only a few Tonkas that are rare enough to be worth any decent amount of money, And the serious collectors that pay top dollar are going to want those in mint condition in it's original box
Funny you should say that. I just restored a dodge pickup( yellow/ black) and a dodge dump truck( orange) and made 160. They paid for parts, paint and labor. 2 new windshields, a steering wheel, 4 tires with white inserts and new hub caps, sheet metal, welding wire, axle rod, decals, rivets, & rivet tool. P.S They both want me to restore more items.
I do this professionally for collectors and museums. As the others said...these are all over the place. If you wish original they must be Japanned (baked enamel) not power coated yet most do not care. Good question. Huggs, captjack
I was born in 97 and had a ton of my dads old school matchbox and larger size Tonka stuff my dad had new as a kid growing up, I’m glad I was able to play with some of this stuff because toys now are shit.
When I saw all the rust I thought for sure you'd have some pitting - but it doesn't seem like there was much at all. And yeah the Tonka mustard color scheme left a lot to be desired - the blue looks awesome! Nice restoration!
I had one of these as a kid. It was blue as well, but not so deep of a color as this. A friend and I took our trucks for a ride around the neighborhood, me sitting on the camper back as if on a skateboard. What a blast we had, until we got home after being gone for hours. Oh the days gone by.
What a great memory this brought back for me. I got the entire Tonka camping set for Christmas in 1965. It had the camper, a Jeep CJ, a Wagoneer, and a little trailer with a yellow plastic split window Corvette on it. The whole set was in that funky tan color. One little trivial tidbit, the camper also had a "US Steel" sticker on the roof. Beautiful restoration job!
New sand blaster? A toy that was made over 40 years age. Can be broken down and made to look new. But things made now... Company's(most not all) don't want them to last more than a few years. That go from toys to T.V.'s. Great Video!
I watch a few other restoration (Tonka and tools) and just now came across yours. This truck is now better than the original. Lol. Beautiful. Love that there’s no annoying music. 👍🏼
Blue was a great idea! Over at the military museum at the old Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland, they used to rejuvenate old rubber parts with KY jelly. It took them a while to convince the manufactures that it wasn't a joke and they really did want to order a 55 gallon drum, delivered to an Army base, but eventually they understood. Now convincing the wife that the KY out in the garage is for work use might be a tougher sell, but it's an idea if you're ever in need of something to restore rubber parts. I like the Hand Tool Rescue t-shirt, it's good to see makers supporting each other!
As much as I’m a fan of keeping things original you’ve done an absolutely brilliant job. Any kid would be proud to have such a beautifully restored truck. Excellent work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Welcome Back! You have been missed. Congrats on the new "YAAAYYYY!!" Box. I, like many others, wholeheartedly approve of the improved colour scheme. I can't Imagine any Child who receives it as a Gift would be concerned that it wasn't the original colour. They would only see a really cool new Toy. And THAT is the Items Real Value. Another job masterfully Done!
LMAO, I had one of these!! My young brother and I had birthdays only two days apart, so our family always celebrated both of them on one day. Lol, then my mother marked our gifts wrong, and I got my brother's tonka truck, while my brother got my Mrs Beasley doll. I loved that tonka truck, lol.
Like like the way u filmed the tearin down the Tonka. Not the fast speed so much. Enjoy seein rushed items brought back to their former glory. Thanks 😊.
That is one good looking truck, and I don't think the original color was real anyway. Which ever it is your little upgrade definitely was nicely done sir.
I have to agree. When I first started watching, I was thinking "Please don't go with the original color!" I was hoping he would have gone with more of a "Winnebago" type livery, but I think it came out really nice in the color he chose.
i had that when i was 3 yrs old. it was my favorite toy.. my brother broke it.. that was my very first heart break in life.. i had to stop and watch this vid..
I like that color, in fact, it's my favorite color. My betta fish is that color. But, it doesn't look right on a '70s camper in my opinion. Great job though, as usual.
Wouldn't it be worth more if it was original?

Your new blasting cabinet is awesome. Love the mount for the nozzle! Seems like it makes sandblasting smaller pieces much easier.
I love it!
@@TRGRESTORATIONS What so you use for blasting?

Try a bag of Black Diamond from Tractor Supply. It’s around 10 bucks or so. Works very well for these applications.

I love the rusty post apocalyptic look of this particular camper. If it was missing wheels, only then I would've restored it. Beautiful job regardless
