All of you have been so gracious with us, and I feel like we are not doing it justice.

I am not Albanian but love the country... Missing it right now... I have had so many good experiences there. The losses of this city to Ottoman forces hurt the Albanian cause in 1560s.. If the west had given real military aid it woukd have made Europe more peaceful. You are in the Tosk dialect area now

The shop by where you grabbed a beer is run by your operators. They are full of info ... Good people. So pleased that you are enjoying Albania. There are many ancient castle sites across the country. The, area you are in became buot up during the early Ottoman period. Across the suspension bridge is a similar area with a great church. Taking a taxi to the castle is a good option especially once the temperatures increase. Berat is spread out along the river. The Pasha was a type of governor or war lord. The palace has mostly gone and that open space has recently been developed. If you walk along the pedestrian way towards the dome of the hotel you will find more if the city. Go too far and you may find a new bridge bring built. This will make travelling to Gjirokaster easier There are other small places near to Berat that could work for you also.
I think that you will find a warm welcome becsuse of your manners. Ask about a restaurant called Lili... In Albanian nouns that end I are usually male.. Have fun

Greetings, thank you for visiting my country.
My comment is about the windows.
It is called The city of window over window )
not the city of thousand one windows
when you say it it’s only one letter makes the difference
That’s why people get confusing. Enjoy your stay.

I'm glad you showed the rectangular commode. You probably don't want to talk about this, but they are superior to the American styles, IMO. 😂

Most of what you see is from 1600s to 1700s. Parts of the castle go back to before Alexander the great. The people were known as Illyrian. They were part of the Hellenic world but linguustically different. Much of their history was destroyed by Roman conquest.
Gjirokaster has similar buildings but the grooves do not have tiles but stone shingles.
If you search videos of Kruje you can see other Ottoman styles.... All over the Balkans it can be found,,Ohrid, Skopje, Shkodra etc. But you have be curious like you... Have a great day..

@@albirtarsha5370 I have been thinking of Albania for 10 years due to a now failed romance. I can read and speak Albanian to a very basic level. The joy of Albania comes from staying in a small place and just accepting that it is how it is. If you go I woukd suggest that you look for local guides or take a tour.
I had contacts and help when I needed it. The place they stayed in is normal. Many places include breakfast in the price... I miss breakfast... So as we say Te dua Shqiperia... Giitha te mirat

@@albirtarsha5370 what means Illyrians were part of the Hellenic world? it's like saying that the hellenes were part of the Illyrian world....in the case of the Macedonians it can be said that they were part of the Illyrian world since they were vassals of the kingdom of Dardania until Alexander's father gained independence during the time of King Bardhyl..( Bardylis)

Berat is under UNESCO protection law. It is more than average!! It's probably the oldest town in all of Europe. More than the "PLAKA" neighborhood in Athens! Which by the way is an Arvanitas/Albanian neighborhood.
