Rayman’s portrayal is literally a commentary on how Ubisoft treated him. He was their greatest risk that paid off big time, he’d go on to be their “studio mascot”, and he was living the high life. That was until the Rabbids came into focus as one of his villains back in 2006 and suddenly these things were wildly more popular.
Being claimsd to have more of everything that Rayman wasn’t and began fading into obscurity since Ubisoft decided to ditch their mascot for the Rabbids; they got multiple games, a show, and even got to collaborate with Mario and Rayman…he made his comeback with Origins and also Legends, but despite having great sales and amazing reviews, he got relegated into Mobile games…even his comeback with a Console release was just a side character to a Rabbids game, something that used to be the other way around.
Rayman’s depiction is accurate if you go off his history with Ubisoft. He was this hopeful, humorous young man that wanted to make a difference for Ubisoft and turned into this depressed, angry man who hates the corporation he has been a dog to.
This man needs his redemption arc. Give the guy therapy, put him in a mental hospital for recovering addicts. ANYTHING!!! Poor guy.
I want him to be the main character if they have a season 2 or a very prominent side character and that we get a reboot of his games , origins was my childhood , I got it when I was 11 for a birthday and I’d rage at it cause I was a dumb kid but I still loved it and I got older and better and beat it

• Met Snoop Dogg
• Snorted Coke
No other video game character can surpass what Rayman has done in his life.
Let's not forget he humps nymphs
Rayman is basically Ubisoft's Johnny Silverhand when you think about it.
Except Sonic the Hedgehog!
Apart from conker from conker's bad fur day
He is technically in his 30s
Gotta give props to Rayman's voice actor. He somehow managed to capture his charm from the video games and give him a range of emotions we've never seen from him until now.
David Menkin is freaking phenomenal with any role that he has, and Rayman here is no different. He's also Malos in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and Barnabas Tharmr in Final Fantasy XVI, among other roles!

As a Rayman fan, I am very on board with his portrayal here. This is what would happen if Rayman was taken from his world and put into a cyberpunk dystopia. Heck, the show goes out of it's way to show that Rayman used to be how he usually looks before the life he ended up in here.
Rayman has always been a cool hero who does cool things, so seeing him turn into this edgier antihero for this show is a fun unnatural evolution though he shouldn't become like this in the games.
This is like the contrast from the status quo of the Sonic series to the Shadow The Hedgehog game, except it was thought out a bit more.
Plus, he's genuinely still a good person, he just took Eden at their word that he's doing good.

Well said!
Now he feels more like K from Bladerunner 2049
Rayman was destroyed in this; someone got paid to forget his entire personality and backstory; I feel for Michel Ancel
Rayman being like this was absolutely shocking because in the games he was a happy go lucky guy. Really liked the side of Rayman in the show though!

Reason why he was USED as the "face" of Eden.
From what I'm getting, he's got washed out actor energy and to me that's an amazing concept
@@Scrofarit's more like he got a wake up call and realised he was being used
The funnier part of all of this is that man that created Ray-man really loved this. He fully approved Ray man being in there because a cartoon character being the face of politics felt real and perfect satire.
The warden tells us what happened at the end of the show. There has always been a group of powerful people controlling the world and she wanted to take them out and make her own group. She had on the back of her skull the same symbol of one of the board members. It shows that she was secretly one of them the whole time and planned everything in the show so that she would be the only one in control.
My farts are better than Saberspark and Saberfart's farts
Tying it once again to assassin's creed, with them being the templars. I honestly never connected the dots from AC to Eden until the templar reveal.

Didn’t see that yet, but I’m not surprised.
There are really no happy endings in a cyberpunk reality. Edgerunners, Lazerhawk… what is with cyberpunk being full on dystopian?

@@p-__oh shut the hell up, you keep commenting over and over and over
As someone who hasn't seen the show yet, but is a huge Rayman fan let me explain some things that might click with what's going on with the show
>1st game: happy go-lucky adventure. Nothing really of note here apart from it making Ubisoft really popular
>2nd game: little bit darker. Dealing with robot pirates trying to enslave the entire world of Rayman. It was also the most ported Rayman game next to the original game
>3rd game: way more lighthearted. This time it's just Rayman & Globox (a character you meet early on in Rayman 2) going to the doctors multiple times to get the main villain out of Globox. Quirky antics ensue.
Now this is where it gets interesting.
>4th game: never came-out. The game was about Rayman fighting a horde of idiotic rabbits, and was really ambitious, but was in development hell for a really long time. In the end Ubisoft cut their losses and turned it into a simple minigame collection called Rayman Raving Rabbids.
>Ubisoft made bank with Rayman Raving Rabbids, and found their new cash cow. With each new Rabbids game slowly pushing Rayman out of the limelight until Rayman and the Rabbids are completely separated from one another.
>With the exception of Rayman Origins and Legends, Ubisoft was never interested in greenlighting another Rayman game since it wasn't really a cash cow like the Rabbids games
So Rayman being this edgy in Laserhawk is one of those things that's surprising at first...but makes a bit more sense, and even becomes funny once you know the history of this poor fellow
Rabbids pushing Rayman out of his own franchise now makes so much more sense in why they've made him a refugee in the show. >_

@@gilitovenegas2339
Yes that's also true. Though, what I find interesting is how many people think the game has BS level design when in reality there's probably only like 4 or 5 spots in the entire game that's like that. Most of which are from bosses, some pixel perfect ring placements, and the one enemy that was placed just outside the camera's view. The rest is just genuinely hard levels.
Rayman 1 is also infamous for its lack of play testing which could explain some of it's weird difficulty curves *cough*Band Land*cough*. Though, what most don't know is the PC/DOS version of the game actually changed the level design from the PS1/Saturn version to make the levels much easier. They're still tough, but not nearly as tough as they were before.
Jade, the girl you couldn't remember, was criminally underused. She's from the Beyond Good and Evil where she's an investigative reporter who exposes an alien conspiracy. I'm hoping she has more to do in season 2.

The frogs name is Bullfrog, funnily enough.
And he is the GOAT.
Bullfrog may be an original Assassin's Creed character, but his personality is inspired by numerous well-known Assassins of the franchise.
Captain Laserhawk: Come for Rayman, stay for Bullfrog
It was a good touch having Rayman make use of his ability to literally throw his hands like that. Honestly this is pretty well done. "Raymone" was tastelessly edgy but somehow didn't pull me out of the story. The message of being treated like a replaceable product and not a person is a very real thing. His reactions to what happened to him and how he wants to stand up for what's right make sense.
Harry Vince!
You mean tastefully edgy?
Right?? The gag with his hands was so great
Rayman being a part of this series was a shocking surprise, but a welcome one. That infamous scene with the cow is the last thing you'd expect to see him do, but it's so hilarious. And the rest of his performance is great too. I love this series so far and I hope it gets a new season and gets even better.

Highly recommend playing Beyond Good and Evil to fully get how robbed you are by Jade being killed so quick.
"I don't know much about games"
Saber... YOU RUN A GAMING CHANNEL.
As a recommendation, to Saberspark and anyone reading this, please give "Scavengers Reign", what I'd personally call a masterpiece of a sci-fi animated television show that finished it's first season about a week or two ago on MAX. It's animated beautifully, has a setting unlike anything I've seen before, and it's themes are more important now than ever. It's this incredible animated show that has not received the attention that a series of this caliber deserves.
It is not for the faint of heart, though.
It has some serious body horror.
Scavenger’s Reign was absolutely brilliant and visually stunning. Pantheon is also another series you should review as well, it’s a series that will definitely make you think.
Rayman is usually seen as a carefree guy who likes to look out for his friends. Though in rayman origins it was a bit strange. In the game you save these nymph sisters that give you powers, and their outfits are a bit... small. Though the lore pretty much says that they created him and not even they know what he is.
The only thing that drew me to this show in the first place was seeing Rayman's existence in it, but then I found a really interesting story that does the whole "dystopian cyberpunk future" thing incredibly well. I'm so glad you're talking about it, cause I want as many people to watch it as possible so we actually get a second season (and maybe more if we're lucky)
I have never heard of it until now but this is reminding me of Conkers Bad Fur Day they way it's putting a 90s kids mascot suddenly into a very adult media.

bobby pills is a great studio, and french animation is some of my favorite, you should consider reviewing both wakfu (the animated tie-in series) and dofus as they are both very good. Also from some compilation clips i've seen what ray man does here does feel like things ray-man would do if the adult dial was turned up to 11, in the games he has the same personality more or less but it's kid friendly
French animation is also Arcane, Blue Eye Samurai, Super Mario Bros Movie, etc...
The "cute girl" and the "pig monster" are Jade and Pey'j from Beyond Good and Evil, a beloved old game that never got a sequel about fighting a totalitarian regime. Besides Dedsec (from Watch_Dogs) who fights modern corporate America, BG&E were easily the most appropriate characters for the setting, so of course Jade gets offed immediately. And Pey'j looks like a weird monster instead of an anthropomorphic pig for some reason.
Netflix should make their story driven shows release one episode per week
I can't believe this is Official from Ubisoft itself.
Oh yeah, I saw this during my last vacation! Can't believe some of the twists and deaths! But I hate what Netflix does to series like this, dumping a season in chunks and hoping people binge and come back.
Some help for you:
- "green-haired girl" and "pig monster" are Jade and Pey'j from Beyond Good & Evil; I really liked her, she died way too soon
- "the warden" is Sarah Fisher, daughter of Sam Fisher (who is also here), both from Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell
- "the VR facility guy" is Marcus Holloway, protagonist of Watch Dogs 2
- also featured are Pagan Min, the villain from Far Cry 4, and a Power Rangers- inspired group based on Rainbow Six Siege
The boss of the Rainbow Six group happens to be voiced by Adi Shankar, who was involved in Captain Laserhawk's creation; he also worked on the Castlevania and the (still upcoming) Devil May Cry animated series on Netflix.
I think the reason she dies so soon is because she's Jade and people would think she was going to be a main character ^^
Captain Laserhawk is just one of those shows that’s JUST GOOD there’s no explanation behind it
I grew up with many Ubisoft games. Was hoping for more Jade from Beyond Good & Evil, she was such great female protagonist even back then! Played several Rayman games and seeing this version here was hilarious but it worked for some strange reason. :D
a 10/10 show really entertaining and it locks you in. so fresh, funny, and gritty at moments, doesn't rely on sex jokes to be funny. No need of prior Knowledge of characters to understand the plot (my bro friend was legit blind while we binged watch it). Enjoyable over all im so glad to see this show blow up and I hope a season 2 is in the works.
Some people say that Netflix "ruined" Rayman but i don't think so. This is just a recreation of the character and Rayman will still be Rayman and the title of the show already says it's a Remix. The game will still going to be for kids and adults, no matter what and I think this show is one of the few good ones in Netflix.
I watched this series out of curiosity after seeing this video and it actually ended up being better than I expected. It has a nice animation style, a good soundtrack, and an interesting story. It held my attention the entire time.
Western style with anime flair: Ladybug definitely captures that essence of French Animation as well!
Rayman & bullfrog were the best parts of the show!
Btw captain laser hawk takes place in 1992 before the story of far cry 3 blood dragon. Although it’s weird Pagan min, Jade and Pey’j exist in the blood dragon universe.
I had just binged watch the whole show in one sitting, and honestly I really didn’t like the pace of how the show went either, it felt all to fast, and was always in my face, I felt like the characters and moments in the show never really had time to breathe and couldn’t stay, so it all felt like a weird fever dream to me and I never tried to really get attached to anything. It sucks that the show had to stop at just ep 6 too, I don’t really know what’s up with that tho tbh. But besides the pace of it all, the show was actually really good! I love the animation the animators did a AMAZING job with that! And the story and characters were so good too! (Love Bullfrog btw please keep him safe🥺)
I just felt like the show’s storyline progressed so fast it made it harder to really appreciate what was happening on screen and I just wished it would slow down a bit that’s all.
WHERE TF DID RAYMON COME FROM??!! HOW DID HE FIND IS WAY IN? WHO LET HIM IN!!??
The pig and Jade (green haired girl) was from the game Good and Evil and I think a lot of people were also a bit pissed that Jade died way to fast as well. It's one of those game series that is beloved by those who know about it but other people really have no idea about it at all. What lost me in the show was when they started to do the sort of pixel live action stuff which felt messy to me. Besides that and Blacklist I didn't really play other games from Ubisoft, but the show was still interesting enough, especially the dynamic between the main cast.

This show is actually really good
1:08 Rayman just likes his steak extra juicy. Nothing wrong with that. 😏
Can't wait to see Sonic as a policeman and Mario as a 'Ndrangheta member.
The thing with Rayman is that was kinda the mascot of Ubisoft, like their version of Sonic, and eventually was totally replaced by the Rabbits, which born from a Rayman game.
So I think on it as a *Wreck It Ralph* kind of villian.
And Netflix cutting seasons in half is to increase their relevance. Sadly with almost every show, is in the peak of popularity during the first 2 weeks, and then falls in the absolute oblivion. So they space it in time to have more people talking about it for longer. And I think that works, cause I feel that the shows that have 1 episode per week tend to be more popular than the ones you can watch all at once.

Normally mainstream French stuff is really boring a lot of the time to please to a wider market. This definitely wasn't the case, but there was too much compress story at the detriment of character development which they were are all awesome in their own way even the bad guys and minor ones. The action was absolutely cook especially with the Megazord fight at the end.
My farts are better than Saberspark and Saberfart's farts
Makes sense, its a french american production. Ppl keep calling it anime tho :(
Rayman went full Jak II Style.
When I saw the Raymond edgy animation on X (Aka. Twitter), I thought it was just a fan animation and nothing more. I am so surprised.
This is literally my new all time favorite show, it's just SO. FUCKING. GOOD. NETFLIX, DON'T FUCK THIS UP.
1:08 Just say what you are man, everyone will accept you.
Please do some kind of video about Blue Eye Samurai too; it’s an amazing series that deserves at least another season and needs all the attention it can get
I literally just finished this earlier and immediately saw you post this. The timing couldn’t be better!
Saberspark needs to play Beyond Good and Evil for the other channel. And then he can really see how they did Jade and Pey'j dirty in this show.
Only watched for bullfrog and rayman
They carries it honestly
The frog was ment to be a parody of murfy rayman's mentor but also assassin's creed because rayman gets advice from him toward the end
I love Rayman, I didn't seem to care about the characters...just Rayman...and Bullfrog
Same, only two interesting characters.
Yeah same, but maybe later on the other characters will grow on me and I will like them, still baffled my mind how they made Rayman very violent n all lol
I'll simply say that Rayman was definitely out of character he's usually the type that fights against authority and not complies with it
Admittedly I forgot what the Canon is now after the whole rabbids take over.
They did Jade dirty but then again that's basically what Ubisoft does to the characters anyway
Ive been wildly interested in this and NOT just by the cow girl.. the whole idea of a game in the Blood Dragon universe fascinated the hell out of me..
It’s great to see Rayman again! It’s been a long time since he’s been in anything. This along with Mario+Rabbids 2, is at great to have you back, Rayman!🌟
They did Jade and Paige so dirty in this
I watched this because i loved far cry 3 blood dragon, and hearing pagan miin’s name scared the shit outta me
Thank you for talking about this show, I hope it gets enough attention for a season 2!
