  • As a doctor, I get to experience a healthcare system more intimately than the average patient. Over the past few years, I have learned a few interesting things about the Spanish healthcare system.
    I am interested in this also as someone who considered building my own practice in Spain.
    My personal journey should be enlightening for those who move to Spain and aren't accustomed to the Spanish healthcare system.

    NO sé dónde te han atendido pero eso no pasa en la sanidad pública, he visto cientos de veces extraer por ejemplo sangre, y la higiene, el uso de guantes, la esterilización de la zona de extracción y la toma de datos del paciente son rigurosísimos.

      The sanitary conditions and processes are quite rigorous. However, in certain health settings such as the US, we put on more of a show that is not based on clinical science. So I mention my observations because many Americans might be accustomed to a certain standard which they believe is necessary for good healthcare delivery but in fact it just creates a lot of waste.

      Qué? Desde cuándo no se ponen guantes para sacar sangre en la Seguridad Social? Además quizás en ciertas ocasiones no hace falta, pero en los hospitales y quirófanos, las medidas de seguridad son rigurosísimas.

      It would be best to contact a local physician or hospital group to find out. I don't think there is a treatment in India you can't get here in Spain but I'm not an expert on the topic.

    Do people wait a lot at hospitals or to see a doctor like in canada ?

    • @DigitalNomadPhysicians
      @DigitalNomadPhysicians  4 месяца назад

      Definitely. For issues that aren't life threatening the wait time is rather long. There is the private system where you can get much faster access if waiting isn't ideal.

      @@DigitalNomadPhysicians i hate waiting. Do you recommend me to choose private insurance ? if yes which type and how much it cost per year?

      @@user-wt9sr2me4qIf you are not a Spanish citizen or if you have not been in the country legally working and paying taxes for several years, you will have to choose a compulsory private insurance because the public health system is for Spanish citizens paid with our taxes, not for foreigners to abuse it.

    If under non lucrative visa, ppl should buy health insurance before entering Spain , right ?

    • @DigitalNomadPhysicians

      You will need to prove to the consulate that you have health insurance. The start date can be later but you must have the policy in hand.
