    This has been a life saver - thank you so much for posting. The issue is also on all Linksys Velop systems including the WHW303, AX4200 and AX5300. I have been struggling for a couple of years with this issue and never got anywhere with Linksys. All Iphones and some other devices would just just stop getting internet data for no reason many times a day. Even though the signal was strong they could just not get an internet connection. Its been driving me bonkers. So many people have the same issue. I followed your instructions completely and now have solid connections.
    Thank you so much for working this out and taking the time to post the solution.

      I'm glad this worked out for you. I've talked to linksys multiple times and they refuse to see the issue for some reason. I don't know why, even after watching my videos, they can't seem to understand whats broken in their code. The routers are just attempting to change channels so much that it consistantly drops connections. Shrug, maybe one day linksys will fix this for people so that it works flawlessly out of the box. We can hope! :)

    First off, thanks for figuring this out! I was getting incredibly frustrated that this thing wasn't working out of the box. I had the same issues you described and couldn't figure it out. I will note that after watching your video it wasn't separating the bands that solves the issue, but it most definitely was selecting a channel for each band. I have a smart home with many devices and it would have been problematic to separate the bands.

    • @itgroup
      @itgroup  2 года назад +2

      Totally agree that it was setting the channels that fixes the issue. I separate the bands because some of my devices will only latch on to the 2.4GHz because the signal is so much stronger because of it being a lower freq. So I separate the bands so I can keep my gaming laptops and what not on the faster band rather than the slower 2.4GHz band. Glad the channel fix helped you out though! Thats awesome!

    • @itgroup
      @itgroup  Год назад

      For sure! I'm glad this worked for you. You're right, it's not separating the bands, but locking in the channels that does the trick. I just separate the bands because i want certain devices to only use 5GHz and others to only use the 2.4GHz. And besides, I believe that we should have full control over what network a device uses at all times, and not all devices (like apple devices) gives you that ability, so therefore, you have to force it by splitting the bands. Now the locking in on a channel, thats something linksys should be doing out of the box and for some reason it fails at doing so and then causes all kinds of issues.

    Thank you! Thank you! Thank you in advance! I said in advance because I just ordered a set of Atlas Max 6E to replace a brand new set of TP-Link Deco XE75. They too are doing what you have been demonstrating and I have beating my head for at least 2 days. Unfortunately I wasn't smart enough to use all of the tools that you have show so I thank you for that too. As far as I can see there is no way to configure the Deco channels but who cares. They are going back and Sunday I will be setting up the Atlas routers using your tips. I am sooooo grateful! I would have been very upset to have gotten them only to see the same issues. I am pinging the router as I type and the ping times are anywhere from 2+ to 140+. How ridiculous. I also like the fact that I can separate my channel bands so that I can force what gets connected to each.Paul

      Glad you were able to find this video and see what I had to go through and see how easy it is to fix it.. Those ping times are horrible and i don't know how linksys got that firmware thru their QC department the way that it works.. Shameful, but this fix works and my routers have been working perfectly ever since.

    This is good info. Your setup is exactly what I have been looking for, not the connection issues but how to configure the Linksys via the Web interface. I was about to trash all three of mine. I want complete control of the settings in the router and my needs don't match up with the standard consumer. I was hoping that you would share the process that you used to configure for bridge mode and if you knew if the web interface was documented anyplace.

    Thank you. This has fixed my frustration with this product. I still had higher pings and variability in pings after setting the channels for 2.4 and 5 gHz bands. Since my devices are not hardwired but I think connect over the 6 ghz band, I set a band for that radio also and that brought pings down and consistent.

      @@itgroup Just to update you, had my first real issue today, my child node disconnected randomly. I do have this one connected wirelessly to my main node.
      Re-connected it back up just fine, but thought it was very random and shouldnt have happened as I had 11 days without an issue.
      Thought Id try to be helpful and let linksys support know so they can acquire the routers logs and have a look.
      Turns out thats a big mistake - literally talked to 3 agents all of them didnt really understand my concern and just stuck to their script of resetting the node and re-connecting. One agent even went as far as telling me where I could change my wifi name!!! The strangest thing is that they told me to change the 2.4 band to channel 11 and width to 20 and 5ghz channel to 140 and width to 20.
      These settings are the worse Id ever seen less than 100 mbps on 5ghz!!!
      Was really surprised with the lack of knowledge linksys support has on their own products.
      Anyway I took your advice again and started documenting the link speed via the status on windows. I found setting 2.4 band to 3 and the 5 ghz band to 44 and both widths set to auto gave me consistent 1.2gbps connection via 5ghz.
      So yeah as quiet a few have said in here, you deserve a medal from linksys. But theres very little chance they will even get to figure out the problems if the support isnt even willing to receive logs, there stance was if it disconnects, its no big deal to re-connect the node.
      Really disappointed by the support from linksys, I had a 10 year old tplink router before and tplink managers would email me the next day asking if things are fully sorted even after the live chat had resolved the issue.

I just wish I didn't have so many problems out of the box with it. But since doing this video and fixing my issues, it's been fine ever since! Thanks for the informative video! I wouldn’t have bought the system if not for seeing your solution to device drops, so you deserve a check from Linksys. I don’t see why they hide the fixed channel options. Hope they fix auto someday. Only prob I have now is my computers with wifi 6 cards can’t see the 6 network, still have to use wifi5. Maybe my cards are just wifi 6 and the network 6e. Other than that, seems to be working much better than my old network which was pretty good

      Thanks for the nice comment! I appreciate that! :) Mine has been working great ever since and I've been very happy. It'd be nice to get some commissions from linksys, but ultimately, im glad to help others. With the 6GHz network, you will need a Wifi 6E Device.. I'm dying to find one that I can use on my laptop to test, but im not going to replace the internal one until the laptop is out of warranty. Until then, i'm fine with the 5GHz network since really the internet speed is slightly slower than the full 5GHz network. So having the 6E device won't make a difference for me yet. I am definitely future proof now though! :)

    On the 2.4GHz side you want channel width 20MHz only and channel 1, 6 or 11. Having the same ssid for everything works fine. 5GHz has a shorter distance then 2.4GHz. If a device is to far. It will hook onto 2.4GHz. It’s doing what it suppose to do. I have the MX8501 and MX5300 wired up between a 8 port switch. Parent and child nodes using the same ssid with 40+ devices. It works great and rock solid stable.

    • @itgroup
      @itgroup  2 года назад +1

      The reason I split the bands in my video is because some of my devices dont have the capability to set the 5GHz as the preferred band, so what ends up happening is that it will always latch on to the 2.4 because it's always a "stronger" signal. So I split my bands so that I don't have to worry about it, and with these routers, and where I have them placed, I can get very strong 5GHz signal anywhere in my home and in my yard.
      I first started doing this on my original velop system because some of those legacy devices just would not work with the mesh system until i split up the frequencies. Like my original amazon echo, and there was another device that I used all the time that wouldn't work until I broke up the 2.4 and the 5GHz signals. Since then, I have just always done it so that I have full control and can connect my laptops to both networks and then if the 5GHz disconnects, it will automatically see the 2.4 and connect to it. But thats my setup here. :)

    I have tried to do what you say in the video but i didn't work for me and linksys support is no help but i have another option in wifi it called 5GH2 I don't know what to set it as.

Once I hard set the channels I am now getting 600-700 down and 200-300 up. I was considering returning it as like everyone else said, too expensive to have such a downgrade in performance. Now I need to figure out why my overall speeds on Fios are still lower than my 10 year old WHW03 Velop 3 node system. I could consistently get 900+ up and down wired but now get at most 850 down and 400-500 up. I have tried every setting. Have read a few places that said it is a compatibility issues between the Atlas and Fios. Anyone else able to resolve this? So, I reserve the 5GHz network for things that need the speed, so phones, tablets, computers, smart tv's, etc. Then the other devices, like printers, alexa, ecobee, lights, etc, I use the 2.4GHz network for them. Or if i have a device that's far away from one of the access points and can't get a good 5GHz connection then i will put it on the 2.4. Thats my current setup.

    • @itgroup
      @itgroup  2 года назад +3

      So i have spoken with them via phone once and in email multiple times. It seems that their engineers weren't grasping where the problem was and thought that I had something else setup that was causing the problem to begin with. They requested that I give them a network diagram showing them how everything was setup. Quite frankly, at this point, if they can't grasp this video, they can either pay me for my time and I will give them everything they need, or they can re-watch the video and focus on how i explain how everything is setup. They think because the IP addresses aren't set to default that I am pinging something thats not their device.. i say " wrong, rewatch the video and look at the ip address from the browser showing im connected to your device."
      Anyway, it is a sad day that their engineers, who i know have watched this video, can't grasp the simple concept that their devices have issues with auto-channel configurations in certain scenarios where you're around quite a few other wifi networks.
      Hopefully this video helps enough people to get past the issues that they are having and eventually I hope they either pay me for my time or watch the video enough that they finally figure it out and release a fix for everyone to enjoy!

Super frustrating! 🥵 To the point I have starting to look around at different wireless systems. I had an older Orbi system which worked well, but I wanted to move to Wifi 6E. If I am correct Linksys has not updated the firmware since November 2021, which seems like a longtime.

      Have you split the two networks? I know my Apple devices are notorious for choosing the 2.4GHz network, which is slow in comparison to the 5GHz network. To split the networks, all you have to do is set a different SSID to the 5GHz network and it will be split and then you can connect to the 5GHz network SSID directly on your Apple device and it should run a lot faster. Let me know what you find out! I'm here to help!

      Sorry for the late reply, but you can verify this by connecting to each node individually based on the child nodes IP address, but it does duplicate these settings to all the children nodes on its own.. At least mine did, and I was able to verify it with all my tools as well to see that everything was running on the same channel for each frequency.

    I've had nothing but trouble. Disconnects, even to the point of not wanting to reconnect..This thing would be fast, then slow,. My exercise bike would only get 40 mbps, and doing a speed test was difficult because for some reason the web interface could not choose a server. It just sat there. My security camera had problems with pixelating. So, I bought a Google wifi pro system. Night and day.. Though this router is most definitely slower than the Linksys, when the Linksys played nice, all of the aforementioned problems are gone.

    How do you connect the the 2 children routers to the mother router using Ethernet? I have my mother router connected to my Xfinity modem. I have the 2 children routers 1 at each end of my house. Currently I have 2 Ethernet cables plugged into the back of the mother router and the other end plugged into the children routers in the yellow socket. I hear some people say they not supposed to be plugged into the yellow socket. My question is where are you supposed to plug the Ethernet cable on the children router?

      Im not sure because I have never tried to hook these up via ethernet to each other. I believe I read somewhere that you would run the ethernet from the switch side of the main router, to the internet portt on the child router, but don't quote me on that. Someone else here may know for sure. I do want to say that I read that in their manual somewhere.

Have not opened it yet just because wondering if I should have gone to 6e. Is only available at ridiculous prices. Three pack 6e for $2000 CAD. I would like to get the 6’s running and integrate the 6e’s progressively when priced more reasonable. Note also, forced to upgrade due to soon redundancy and no more support for my google onehub’s. Would upgrade these except no 6 available and I am not buying already nearly out dated equipment. Thx

      Sorry for the late response, but if you don't have any 6ghz devices, you won't make full use of a wifi 6e router. The only reason to go ahead and get these is, if you can afford it, and you will have or already have wifi 6e ready devices. Otherwise you will be potentially over paying for something you don't need right now. As more wifi 6e devices come out and the routers aren't bleeding edge, their prices should drop and you'll be saving yourself some money. Hope this helps!

      @@danphilpott6302 Not sure, but I can tell you that I have their Wifi 5 Mesh system and even though it's a velop along with the Atlas Max, i tried to work in the Wifi 5 with the 6e version, and it does not work that way. The Atlas Max uses the 6GHz freq for it's backhaul so a 6 does not have the 6GHz band, so i'm going to say it's probably unlikely that it will work that way. I have not been able to find a way to change what band the backhaul uses, although you can use the ethernet port to backhaul your data between nodes, but still doubtful that it would work between the two.

      I had one network name for the 2.4GHz network, one for the 5GHz network and then finally one for the 6GHz network. So 3 network names.. This way I can choose what devices should go on what network. Like my amazon alexa can go on my 2.4GHz while my xbox can go on the 5GHz network. Some of my devices will simply try and pick up on the strongest signal which is almost always the 2.4GHz signal because of the way the frequencies work, but this way i can force it to the 5GHz network.

      Hate to ask this question because im sure you are doing this, but are you sure your device is connecting to the 5GHz SSID? Did you set a separate SSID for each band and verify that you're connecting to the 5GHz band? I ask because I do this to get the higher speeds because I have devices that will default to the 2.4GHz network because they get a stronger signal from the 2.4 so they connect to that network and thus the lower speeds.

      I have separate SSDS for each network, so they are locked in and staying on the right networks, just slow wifi speeds for some reason. I get no disconnections or anything, just slow speed as if it is throttling me or something strange.

    Hello! I’ve got a question I was hoping maybe you might be able to answer! I have an an Atlas Max 6E system setup with 1 parent and 2 child nodes - same as you! I use a single SSID and have also fixed channel selections instead of leaving it at Auto. I frequently experience what seems to be a dhcp server issue specifically with the iPhones on the network. The Wi-Fi icon disappear at the top of my phone and I see 5G/LTE, but when I open my settings-> Wi-Fi screen, I see that it's showing as connected to my SSID but the IP address field shows a 169.254.x. address. My LAN is 10.x.x.x, so this is obviously an issue. Restarting the velop system seems to do the trick, but turning my phone or Wi-Fi switch off and on doesn't work. The other thing I have seen work, is if I turn off one of the two child nodes. A temporary fix has been turning off the “Private Wi-Fi Address” switch in the iPhone Wi-Fi settings for my SSID, which basically uses a secondary MAC address when connected to the network. Could it be that my iPhone is trying to constantly/repeatedly connect to two nodes? I have turned OFF airtime fairness, node & client steering options, but haven't had much luck. From what I have read online, an extremely old Linksys solution recommended using the renew lease option within the apple iOS Wi-Fi settings for the network, but that option is no longer available on the more recent versions of IOS. Any thoughts?

    • @itgroup
      @itgroup  Год назад

      I have not seen this issue with the system, but then again, i split my networks. I do have some devices that historically have had issues with mesh networks, like my sonos devices and my alexa devices. Since I have had these issues before, on my original velop system, I now ALWAYS split my networks between the 2.4, 5, and 6GHz with a different SSID for each.
      This might be one of the situations where this might help you. You should try and change the 5GHz network to a different SSID in the web interface and see if this resolves your issue. I wish iPhones allowed the user to pick the band they wish to prefer or use but iPhones dont do that. Now I also can tell you that historically iPhones connect to the strongest signal and in the case of my old velop system (not sure about the new atlas max) but my iphone would NEVER connect to my 5GHz band when the SSIDs were the same, they would always connect to the 2.4GHz network, which is definitely slower.
      The other thing I should ask is do you have any other possible devices on your network that could have a DHCP server configured on it, like another router other than your atlas max? Even your modem from your ISP sometimes will have DHCP turned on and can possible interfere. I've seen this with some spectrum connections here locally.
      Hope some of this helped!

      @@itgroup I think it’s possible - I know I have dhcp enabled on my AT&T fiber modem but I limited it to maybe the first 10 values of the fourth octet in the IP address. I may try turning it off now that you mentioned that.

      @@itgroup I turned off DHCP and DHCPv6 at my AT&T fiber gateway. The Linksys router stopped working entirely. I believe you just have to do dhcp-fixed and specify IP pass through. Nothing else is connected to the fiber gateway LAN and the subnets are totally different to avoid conflicts? Is there another way to set this up with the intent of disabling dhcp on the fiber gateway?

    • @itgroup
      @itgroup  Год назад +1

      @@stanvmusicofficial If your AT&T fiber gateway (with dhcp turned off) has an address like 192.168.1.1 then you could probably manually set the linksys to 192.168.1.2 and set the gateway to 192.168.1.1. Now if you have the abliity to do IP Passthrough, or bridge mode on the at&t fiber gateway, that is probably what i would enable and then let my linksys handle all the port forwarding and nat'ing for stuff that i might want to open on my internal network. That's just me. This way also you don't have 2 devices trying to make decision on how to route stuff on my network, the at&t fiber gateway and the linksys.
      Of course, before making any changes, make sure you can set everything back to the way you had it before making changes in case something doesn't work right in the end. Currently I have my ISP setup in IP passthrough to my firewall, so my firewall manages the public IP that I get from my ISP, and then I have my linksys atlas max set up in bridge mode to my firewall, this way everything just simply passes through to my fire2wall from both sides of my network. If you don't have a firewall that sits between your ISP gateway and the linksys velop/atlas max, then your atlas max will handle the connection.
      So to sum up, If it were me, i would turn on the IP passthru on the at&t fiber gateway, and then set up my linksys atlas max to handle all traffic on the network.

    Jason, why did you rename the ips address from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.2.2?

    • @itgroup
      @itgroup  2 года назад

      Out of the box the linksys router sets the default ip to 192.168.1.1 ... So the router that was still in it's default mode (the one to show how it was acting like it was broken) was set to 192.168.1.1 ... Now the other two of the three set is still configured with the way my network is actually setup. I have a firewall that runs on the 192.168.2.X network, so my parent node when plugged into my firewall and working in bridge mode gets a 192.168.2.X because the DHCP is being served from my firewall and not the actual linksys product. Thats where the confusion may lie, but the fix in this video will work regardless. The IP doesn't matter for the fix in this video and the issues that the routers were having. We split up my three set with linksys to test, so we can make sure that nothing else was connected to the one that was exhibiting the issues. So thats why the two different IPs.
