Thank you for the coverage, we are glad you enjoyed our game! You raised some fair points in the video, we intend to play close attention to player's feedback and provide free updates post launch. In particular we will for sure provide more fast travel locations, and make some of the temporary shortcuts permanent.
Huge Metroidvania fan - literally never heard of this one. I am learning about it exclusively from your review. Mission accomplished, devs! Looks like a fun game.
Finding a good review for a small indie game is usually pretty hard, so I just wanted to say this was a really well done review for a small channel. Well written and presented, good camera and mic, nothing annoying in the intro. Good stuff.
YT just randomly put this video on my feed, and I'm glad I followed the rec-clicked for the shirt, and stayed for the thorough review and awesome narration. I hadn't even heard of this game… I love the aesthetic, it looks really fun and I'm all for slower-paced Metroidvanias. Instant buy and instant subscribe to your channel! Thank you, Pam!
Just grabbed this recently to play on my Steam Deck. I've never been a particularly ardent metroidvania fan, but for some reason I keep buying them specifically to play on my Steam Deck.
I'm the same way. I think because of the nature of metroidvanias (lots to do, can explore or make progress) makes them great for traveling. And 2D sidescrolling games work well on a smaller screensize doesn't hurt either.
That looks like a lot of fun! I totally dig the slow paced vibe, and not so much story that I can't just pick it up and play when this busy Dad has time to game. :)
The whole 'cant see the map until you find a certain person/entity' thing is something I actually really liked from Hollow Knight, so I'm not unhappy to see it here again. Makes the initial foray into new areas feel more adventurous and the sense of relief finally finding the 'map revealer' is great, kinda like the feeling of reaching a new bonfire in a Souls game.
That's one of the things I love about your channel, Pam. Constantly learning about games I probably would have missed. This is the first time I am hearing of this one and it looks awesome! Thanks!
This immediately gave me early retro game vibes. Like something originally made for an 80s home computer, but modernized in presentation. Which isn't bad or good so much as just 'neat'. Also, liking the longer hair. Suits you. 👍
Whoa this looks frikkin awesome. Where do I start? The controls look solid and the different traversal mechanics look fun to utilize. So many indie games are gorgeous, but lack in-depth or finely tuned mechanics. Admittedly I haven't played it yet, but it looks like a good game. I'll look for it on steam.
After watching a video on "25 upcoming metroidvanias" this was on my shortlist of ones to check out because I liked the astronaut/alien planet aesthetics. Glad to know it's worth playing.
Graphics and textures are stunning in this; best I ever saw in a metroidvania. Wow 😳 things have some a loooong way since I played Super Metroid on my Super Nintendo original hardware way back when.
I don't usually like non-pixel-art Metroidvanias but this looks pretty good. I enjoy slower paced deliberate platforming. 16-20 hours is a lot of content!
I didn't know about this game until ads were all over Reddit. Now I see your coverage here! I want to check it out. Hopefully, It's not too hard (what can I say? I'm become more casual as I've gotten older >_
The game is not too punishing, especially in "standard" mode, difficulty ramps up more towards the end, but you can an always spend some time upgrading your gear if you want to beat the bosses more easily.
Just picked up this game last night. It's gorgeous and tons of fun. My only real issue is the lack of fast travel points which makes navigating the map cumbersome at times. Other than that, it's the best metroidvania I've played since the Ori games.
It looks pretty good, the art and animation are very good. I now think Oscar the Grouch is pretty cool and I watched Imprint for the third time in my life tonight and it's so insane that I still don't understand the ending.
Definitely appeared to be a fun title. I may look into. I'm in the middle about Metrovania type games. Currently playing "Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom".
It was a while since I watched your videos..I am so sad that castlevania do not continue so you will continue your persona as a vampire gamer woman . I still love you like that!
I'm glad I found this review. I will probably give this game a go. I haven't found a modern side scroller I've liked as much as Shadow Complex, but this game may break that streak.
just had a conversation with a friend about double jump in metroidvanias and how giving it early is bad design. it just changes the standard spacing of platforming which doesn't change much over just keeping the original standard platforming spacing if it weren't implemented. It only really changes things in terms of combat. So my opinion only implement it after most exploration is done and it just allows access to the last few secret areas or make traversal to finish the map simpler or just leave it out in entirety.
This game really just feels incredible to play. It's definitely not a mind blowing metroidvania by any means though. After about the first hour of play, I find myself just pushing through it. I'm never compelled to see what's next. It's just very good looking, runs well, and actually kind of relaxing to play. Would I love to see a sequel? I absolutely would. Would I be mad if the sequel did not offer a ton of new features and gimmicks? Yeah, I would be mad. This game has a very solid foundation, but again, as good as it looks, I don't feel like I can't put it down. Instead, I feel like I want to honor the style by finishing the game, which is not exactly the same thing as playing a really good game.
This game just popped up on the store outta nowhere. With just one review I had to get some intel on if this is worth it. Metroidvanias are my favorite genre and this seems to do a lot of things differently but luckily the right things still the good old way. I like the setting and I guess I will give this a try. I guess I can live with the few bad things you pointed out. While most metroidvanias try to go more vania this gave me more metroid vibes.
Hi! I love your channel, and I love that it focuses a lot on metroidvanias, which is my favourite genre. Will you be covering Ultros? It looks so good! Anyway, keep up the good work, love your videos and your chill personality--so many people on youtube are given to histrionics to try and stand out and... I personally can't stand it :D All the best to your youtube channel, you deserve more subscribers. I'll be adding The Mobius Machine to my wishlist now ;)
Thanks so much! I played the Ultros demo and found it a little hard to visually parse what was happening. It was a lot. I might check it out if it ever comes to Xbox.
I want to create a Medroidvania handheld that allows you to download and buy and play metroidvania games like this. I feel like there is a lot of them and they all are great and have an awesome library has been built over the years and I think there is a huge gap in the handheld market as people tend to want to play games while watching youtube on the TV. Thanks for the video.
@@Cannotbetamed1 I am not doing it. I never do my ideas. I am going to try to make a choose your own adventure but somehow employ statistics where you can fail the choice and have a setting and event based Markov Chain to optimize decisions so that it increases engagement and enjoyment while having a unique story. But it will likely take longer than a quarter and more like 5 years outside of work. I will let you know if it is done.
The game looks great!!! The music reminds me of blade runner ost a little bit. The only thing im a lttle worried about is the actual gameplay, and if im gonna like it enough to pick it up. Because it feels a little.....basic. Like the usual platforming and very run&gun:y . Sometimes basic can be good though, if the controls are tight and the environments are well-designed. The underwater section does look interesting.
Not going to lie I had your video playing on in the background as I was rewinding a VHS tapes I don't know if that's the strangest comment I ever left on the content creators video in 2024 but I just I just rediscovered an the VHS format I swear movies like finding Nemo looked better on VHS
Game looks great, but should reduce the bullet sponge factor further so one or two shots does them in. Reminds me of Blaster Master and Metroid on NES.
It looks like an incredible game, but the lack of variety of equipment bothers me, but it's a review, maybe the game contains more content, anyway it's on my steam wish list now
New to your channel, but this was such a great review. You cover all the 'need to knows' and a fair numbrr of the 'nice to knows' too. I would maybe suggest adding a bit more character to the review, some personal flavour - such as your personal favourite games in the genre, other titles you've enjoyed recently. But that is purely my subjective view and is by no means meant as a criticism. I'm gonna sub regardless!
Of course, collecting trash. That's why Oscar the grouch T-shirt. I just got that. The graphics and some of the aliens remind me of Oddworld: Abes odyssey. Only it's a 3D game playing as a 2D game instead of rendered frames. It looks like it has its charms, and that's never a bad thing.
I had not heard of this, but now it is on my wishlist. The graphics look incredible although the transitions between some of the animations look a bit too abrupt. The price of high responsiveness I suppose.
@@Cannotbetamed1YT issue it seems, I rewatched parts of it to time stamp it but it doesn’t stutter after rewinding it and watching it again. So it must be on my end.

This is exactly the feedback I was hoping they would see! This is now an instant buy for me. Thanks, both of you!
I'll buy it if you put it on GOG
I found myself sucked into the world in a way that hasn't really happened in a Metroidvania since Axiom Verge - the world-building was top-tier.
Just my kind of games & it looks gorgeous. Wonder if it works with a fighting/arcade stick (PS5). It would be nicer that way than a normal controller.

This is in fact exactly how the map works in Elden Ring.
