- Ekseption was a Dutch ensemble active from 1967 to 1989, playing progressive rock and classical rock. Central character in the changing list of members was conservatory-trained Rick van der Linden. The band knew some commercial success in the 1970s, having Dutch top ten hit singles with their adaptations of Beethoven's "Fifth" and Bach's (Celebrated) "Air." The second album, "Beggar Julia's Time Trip" (1969), won the Dutch Edison Award for album of the year, and the first five albums all went gold.

Plus personne depuis eux.
Ekseption, élégance et virtuosité.
Finally I'm back.... after 50 yrs.
The music of my teenage years in the early 70ies.
Symphonic Rock at its finest.
That's fu*king great stuff...
When Ekseption recorded Aram Khachaturian's "Sabre Dance" in 1969 or 1970, the composition was only 27 or 28 years old. Strange to think that their rendition is now (almost) double as old as the composition was then !
Simply cool! Rick was a genious with keyboards.
A few days ago I'd never heard of this band. I've now listened to quite a few things, think I'll need to buy something.
I suggest, if I may, their double CD - Selected Ekseption
its not something you normally see is it - the trumpeter sat on a John Deere combine harvester?? Love it, absolutely mad as a stick!
Imagine the keybords sat there 😬😄
great ,incredible ,fantastic ,beutiful ,I cant imagine how there are still people
who doesn´t like music like this
Trop bon ! C'est une musique pour se réveiller !
Playback or not, Rick still kicked ass.....
WHAT AN AMAZING WALL OF SOUND!
PERFECTION!
This was fun! Never seen them before.
Truly unbelievable! To date, I didn't even know there was any live video from Ekseption. And then I find this absolutely overwhelming piece of music here - performed live in a barn.
I have known Ekseption (from the record) since the end of the 70s and have heard songs like this more than a thousand times. What always fascinates me is that it still sounds so modern.
Glad you enjoyed seeing this video. Just like you, I very much enjoyed and still enjoy listening to their music. I have seen them performing live too, in 1971.
@@Shalev53 Exseption es una gran grupo,a la par de sus paisanos de Focus.
I'm pretty sure it's not live. Given the track I'm not even sure it was _possible_ at the time to perform it live.
i was 4, 5, remembering this from my oldest brother, we had most of it on LP at home, after i grew up with Slade etc. lol, thanks bro
Браво Эксепшнс!!!!!!!
Sabre Dance from Ekseption with Advertisment for Tractors of John Deere! ;-)
Wunderschön der Säbeltanz aus dem Ballett Gayaneh
Oui, Rick est un phénomène. Oui, il devrait être reconnu comme tel, maintenant quand même et pas dans cinquante ans...
Rick Van Linden Maestro!
Amazing!
Hadn't heard this since the early 80s or so! Had to make up a bit by listening to it 4 times in a row...
that cover is the ultimate !!!
EKSEPTIONEL!!!!!!
Coisa mais linda, gente!!!
Demais, né? Impressionante!!
oh that fantastic EKSEPTION.....forever thanks to RICK.....
Great !! Theese boys are the best
Cool classical jazz-art-prog Band!!! 🎺🎹🎸
.....progressive rock.
No real art rock influence from them
Excellent
Wow!😍🎼🎶🤗❤❤❤
Great 😃
Rick Rocks the Classics
Wow! I mean WOW! I love keyboard players who use their finger tips deftly instead of modern day players who insist on playing heavy handedly without breaks. Yes, I also love Keith Emerson, R Wakeman, Vangelis, Rachel Flowers Ralf & Florian and others for the same reasons. Tis a great pity how modern day synth efforts are muddlesome compared to the earlier standalone pieces such as this one, Telstar, Popcorn, Cars, Vienna, Tainted Love, The Model, Nutbush City Limits - et al, where finger tipped synth has created and left us with such fine, memorable tunes.

These guys are amazing. Wish I could have heard them in concert back then. Sort of a Dutch version of ELO.
ELO? Or are you talking about Emerson Lake and Palmer?
@@detectordegados5292 I would have stated ELP if I meant Emerson, Lake and Palmer. I think Ekseption is an amazing progressive rock band that at the time reminded me of ELO

Ekseption/Spin are awesome
Ah...Memories!
Wow, I just love Rick van der Linden, too bad he wasn’t really well known, because his keyboard skills were just top notch, comparable to the likes of Emerson and Wakeman, if anyone wants to hear more of his music, I suggest also checking out the later band he formed (Trace)
Bra gjort av dem.
I learned how to drive a tractor on the same model as the John Deere in the video.
NOSTALGIE...
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👍🏼
very well..................................
I saw Rick van der Linden play Beethoven's 2nd piano concerto. He was classicaly trained. Note also Von Weber's 2nd piano sonata of which he plays a snipped.
Woooooowwww.
Einfach nur Geil 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Aram Katschturian exceptionel....
Why have I never heard this group before today?
Well, better late than never, they say ;-) In case it helps: They introduced us in school to Exception's Toccate, but we didn't get it then...
Because there was no internet back then.

Pirelli wheel commercial music in 72 or 73
This cannot be 1970. The Synthi A model seen on top of the keyboards debuted in May 1971.
Indeed. The sound is the original song from 1969, and the video recording is from 1973 (between March and November).
How could they forsee the dutch farmers protest over 50 years ago?
What keyboard is he using for piano sounds (the one right above Hammonds)? Looks like it has Hohner logo on the right, but I can't think of any hohner keyboard from the 70s able to do these kind of realistic piano...
i think a hohner clavinet
@@renzo5441 or Pianet maybe...
I think they are not performing live. That piano sound was impossible in the '70 from that kind of keyboards. The honner pianet sound like a wurtlitzer not a real piano.
It’s a Hohner Pianet N electric piano

Anybody notice there was no guitar?

And the Flevohof!
At 2’15 what’s this classical piece please ??
It is all the one and same piece (Sabre Dance), only that the Ekseption have produced various arrangements to the same composition.
@@Shalev53
At 2’15,he made a « citation « of a classical piece…
@@jeanlucchapelon I'm sorry, I don't see a "citation" at 2'15. Are we looking at the same video?
Sorry it’s at 2’10
Its called Perpetuum mobile by Carl Maria von Weber. The Rondo Finale of his Piano Sonata No.1, Op.24
What's with the farming equipment 🤣
This clip was recorded at the "Flevohof", a farming theme park that existed between 1971 and 1991.
Probably at some event at the opening of the park, or for publicity around that....
ОТОЖГЛИ!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sounds a bit agricultural.
Plate spinning music. Certain acts used to go on the Ed Sullican show, see, on Early Television, right? ANd they would spin plates, on whippy sticks, see? And they would always accompany this act with Kakachurian's Saber Dance. NO shit. Another ancient useless fact from Ergy.
