You are proof that it is possible to knit the things you want, it only takes putting the time into the projects. Thank you Amy for sharing this with us 💗
I never knew you were an engineer! as a fellow person who is from Mass, an engineer and one who knits to relax it makes so much sense why I love this channel so much!!
Amy I really appreciate the amount of preparation you did to film this video. I watch many other knitting podcasts and the creators scramble around grabbing things and struggling to remember yarn used or name of the pattern etc. You have all of that prepared and I appreciate it.
A lot of people don't have same gauge when they knit flat vs. knit in the round. Then when you knit in flat, you are purling every other row. And a lot of people have a difference between their "knit" and "purl" length. Try to swatch in the round. You don't need to knit all the way around. Knit the required amount. Let's say 10,5cm then let about 11-12 cm yarn piece unknit (that way you can put your round gauge swatch on a flat surface for measuring.) Join your yarn to the other side and knit in the round. Less knitting, flat measuring gauge but knitted in the round. I am one of the lucky ones. My knits and purls have same length. So I can swatch flat. I never pin my swatches tho. I put them right side down to prevent the curling. When that side is semidry I turn the wrong side and it drys very flat. No pins, no unwanted stretching.
You managed to finish SO MANY projects this year, it's really impressive. I also watched your "Disappointments of 2023" video and it's too bad about the Uppbót and the Whitmore, but that Zipper Sweater turned out wonderfully and your Lanikai is possibly my favorite thing from this video.
About your gauge trouble - there could also be a difference between your gauge knitting flat vs. knitting in the round. A lot of people knit tighter when it's in the round.
I always add a mini gusset to the fish lips kiss heel for the same reason you mentioned. There’s a free pattern that has a mini gusset called Friendship socks that you can just use the mini gusset from. I actually only add 4-5 on each side instead of the 6 in friendship socks and that adds just the little extra to the diagonal that I need
I'm not sure what I'm more impressed by, all your knits or how efficiently you went through them! I'm still thinking about the provence sweater, so dreamy!
Thank you Amy! I love how you share your thoughts on the yarn you use as well at the patterns. It's so helpful to hear other's opinions on those details. I always look forward to watching your videos! Thanks!
I also LOVE the Wool of the Andes worsted! I made my mom a gorgeous cabled sweater (Millisande pattern on Ravelry) with it in a deep red shade and it has such gorgeous stitch definition, color and texture for finished fabric.
Hi, here's another full-time engineer from Korea! I don't knit as much, and I probably do not knit as fast as you do. So I enjoy watching your video. Hope that makes sense 😂
I would think twice about super wash yarn for your husband sweater, I did one for my husband that grew to the size of a dress and then I tried drying it, and got holes in it, and I also tried over dying it black which did not go well… now it’s a Friday the 13th sweater for Halloween!😂
I do love all your finished objects, always a cozy video to watch ! I did knit the Weekend Hat too and I have to say I am a tight knitter, but I ended up sizing up to a 5mm needle (recommend size is a 3,5mm needle), and it did fix all the sizing issues I had prior : the hat doesn't feel to tight around my head, no mark on my forehead, it doesn't slide up... I would really consider changing up your needle size if you do plan on knitting on again in the future, because it is quite a warm and comfortable hat if you do get the fit right !
Thank you Amy for all the prep you did for this video. Actually, you ALWAYS prep so well. 😊 Like everyone else, I’m so impressed by not only how many things you made but the variety. I’m always sitting with pen in hand when I watch. You are very inspiring. Your opinion on each item is also most appreciated. Regarding your swatching… you didn’t mention whether you swatched in the round. I’m amazed at how much looser I knit flat. And be sure to swatch with the exact needles (wood or metal) as I’ve also found quite a difference. That’s just my findings but it might be worth testing for yourself. I look forward to each new podcast 👍🏼 😊
Gauge swatching - I have difficulty getting gauge and measure my gauge swatch before and after wetting/washing. Also after washing I do not pin swatch - just lay flat on a towel and measure gauge after the swatch is dry. I usually find the gauge fabric ‘look’ I like - then determine my gauge st/“ & based on this I change the size I knit, usually going up one size to get the smaller finished size I want. All of your 2023 knits are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing.
The Icelandic sweater looked good on you. Matched your skin tone. If was the best-looking garment on you. The other garments were pretty, but it was just "Ok. look nice. The norm.". The blue, indigo and grey made a statement.
Hi Amy, you are my favourite podcaster, and I really appreciate your 2023 projects review. You are very prepared and give all the important information without the excess rambling. And you also give an honest feedback about how the project turned out for you and the yarn comments. Thanks to you I realized that dropped shoulder sweater should have some more positive ease and possibly be made with the more flexible yarn. I have one dropped shoulder pullover and I never knew why I am not wearing it. It turns out it does not have enough positive ease, similar to your cool beige sweater. You have made tons of beautiful projects, and it was a pleasure to watch. congratulations 🎉
Hi Amy - What a wonderful recap of 2023 knitting.. I think. my favorites are the Boho Shawl - gorgeous color on you; and the Turtle Dove Shawl! Wow! Such a pretty knit. I agree with your comments about size - very cute and the texture looks wonderful. Congrats on a very productive year!
It was fun to see all of your knits! For “husband” yarn, I have used Queensland Collection Kathmandu. It comes in DK and Aran (but I knits like a worsted). It’s tweedy and soft - I think it’s merino, silk and cashmere. It’s great to knit with and I have knit multiple sweaters for my husband out of it. He wears them all the time!
Impressive amount of work this year :) Thanks for the review, tips, yarn info! I'm a similar size so really helpful! Agree on your assessments of most of them but I think the Whitmoor cardigan came out fitting great! Just personal preference I guess :) Definitely going to make myself one of those Audrey tops!
All of the cons you have with the fish lips kiss heel, I’ve experienced too😩 to a tee! It’s definitely not my favorite which shocked me because when starting socks I was like “heel flap and gusset is not for me it looks ugly, and it’s my absolute favorite and love the process of it!
❤Loved all of them especially the Uppbot. I purchased the pattern and mail ordered the yarn the first time I saw you working on it!!! And…….have not even read the pattern. But I love the finished object!!!!! Also love the Turtle Dove. Purchased pattern 2 days ago .. I plan for it to be my next cast on. Trying to use it for knitting candy to get motivated to finish a few WIP. Thank you for sharing!!❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much, very useful review. I'm of similar colors and similar shape (Kibbe type) so what looks best on you would probably look good on me as well :)
Amy, I just want you to know that you've made me absolutely obsessed with Sewrella's Toile color, and I'm patiently waiting for the spring tonals drop so I can get a sweater quantity XD So obsessed with that color
Yes! Cast is an irregular verb. You do not add 'ed' to it. Ive noticed other Podcasters doing this. The past tense is ' i cast on', ' i have cast on, i will cast on'. Can say i am casting on. I do love your analytical style for both pattern and yarn. I love fingering weight and linen for summer. Was the quince&co. linen yarn hard to knit with like the knitting for olive silk?
I just found your channel and love all your garments!! I have some yarn in my stash that ive been trying to figure out what do with because it’s just not quite enough for a sweater and the Lana vest would be perfect for it! Your vest is gorgeous so thanks for the inspiration!
I just finished a cumulus blouse holding lace wool and suri alpaca and it is absolutely lovely. It is such a versatile pattern that suits many sizes and body types, highly recommend! You had a very productive 2023 in knitting!
Your husband looking so thrilled to be your model 😂 Seeing your Monday sweater finally motivated me to try my WIP on cause I just love the way yours looks. So excited to get mine done! Totally agree with you on the Tynn silk mohair. I think it’s my least favourite. Not a fan of the feel or that silvery look they all have.
Have a great appreciation for all of your knits, your approaches, and reviews. Keep knitting! I am 5'1" so I find your modifications give me perfect insight. Which mitten pattern have you found (so far) to be the most anatomically correct?
I just came across your videos and am really enjoying watching them. You knit some very nice projects! Very impressed with the sweater with the zipper. I tried a zipper once and could not get it to work and finally just stitched the opening. Any tips on putting in a zipper?
I made that blanket from Two of Wands too! The tassels were my bane until I found a tassle twisting device. The only downfall has been my cat loving to mess with the tassles😂. I think I am going to have to cut them down to be a lot shorter.
wow, you did a lot of knitting last year! the DH is adorable🙂. for future sweaters for him, what do you think abt making the ribbing longer?...your round necks are so well-shaped, not elongated sideways--bravo!...i thought the LS blue one fit well, too bad it's itchy...also, thx for adding time stamps and chapters--very helpful.
I love love love your podcast. Also this is kind of weird, but I knit a sweater using Sunday and tynn silk mohair and I also felt it was so prickly and itchy. I ended up putting it in a ziploc back and put in the freezer (crazy I know, but I did some research and it does something to the fiber) and it helped so much it isn’t near as itchy. 🎉 maybe that could help the Monday sweater as well ?
All of your knitted items are lovely. I feel you knit too many oversized sweaters and the one sweater you think is too tight, I think it looks perfect! We all have are own aesthetics. Enjoy watching your vlog. Keep up the good work 😊
Your husband is so cute!!!!!! (Not coming for him lol, I just mean he seems so sweet based on my 15 second impression of him modeling your hand made sweater ❤)
I really enjoyed all the hats I made with sock yarn held double. They all happened to be SW merino/nylon blends, usually 4 ply but a few were 2 ply and I liked the fabric on 3.5mm needles. I did make one with 1 strand of sock yarn and 1 strand of suri lace that I also loved!
I have no idea why anyone tucks their sweaters in their pants or skirts. It looks silly and adds lbs to their appearance. It looks as if you just came from the restroom and didn't check to see that when they were doing their pants up they forgot to look in the mirror 😂😂😂 Also the Wool of the Andies sweater is nice, I wouldn't frog it. It will become bigger as ot streches out in time.
FYI there is no such word as “casted on” as that in an incorrect conjugation of the verb cast, so please say cast on as it means past and present tense
Love to hear that you are also an engineer in MA! :)
Knitter engineers unite 😉
Another knitter/engineer here 😊😊
Count me in as well! Just in AL and not MA!
I've found my people! Knitty engineer in NH here. Great podcast!
Amy I really appreciate the amount of preparation you did to film this video. I watch many other knitting podcasts and the creators scramble around grabbing things and struggling to remember yarn used or name of the pattern etc. You have all of that prepared and I appreciate it.
Such an inspiring episode! I would love to see a wardrobe tour/how you store your knits type video
Agree!
your husband modelling the sweater was so cute haha
Such an interesting overview, thanks for sharing.
The Merlot-colored yarn of the Lana Vest is such a great color for you, it looks amazing!
Thank you!
Your zipper sweater is the crown jewel in your collection. Love it!

The Husband Cameo !!! What a good sport ❤ A year of lovely knits . Excellent work .
Love your makings ❤❤❤❤❤❤thank you for sharing ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

What a sweet hubby! Such a good sport! ❤😊
Awww Nick is a good sport, definitely knitworthy. This was a fun review! Loved hearing your take on some patterns that are in my queue.
This was so informative and you are so talented! Thank you for sharing your knitting adventures with us.
Thank you Amy! I love how you share your thoughts on the yarn you use as well at the patterns. It's so helpful to hear other's opinions on those details. I always look forward to watching your videos! Thanks!

Ah, you're an engineer too! That explains why I enjoy your channel so much. Great content, from a fellow knitting/crochet engineer.

I’m so impressed by all the knitting you’ve finished. Really beautiful garments. Thank you for sharing with us.😊

Wow, the camisole #5 looks amazing on you 😀. The colour and shape really suit you 😻.
You are a delight and a very eloquent knitter. Thank you for sharing!
Glad you made it 🎉 from across the Tasman…

Thank you for sharing your techniques with us👌🙏
Really enjoyed watching. Thanks for putting the pattern name and yarn up on the screen, sometimes it's so hard to catch!
Fabulous vlog…. So informational and inspirational….. Details so appreciated… thank you 😊

Oversize knit sweater and tee shirts high square neak. Extra large for boxy fit.
Silk is technically not a plant fiber hehe. It doesn’t have stretch in the same ways that plant fibers do, which is why they’re so similar

Wow! I followed along with your summer knitting, and took inspiration from you and knit six tees and tanks! Thank you for a great year of knitting!

I'm working on a Sari Nordlund pattern right now and I have two more ready to go in the queue, I love her patterns so much!
Great episode, I’ve enjoyed watching and super excited what you’re going to create this year 😊
Happy New Year Amy! This was a great roundup. I learned so much about the patterns and yarns you worked with in 2023 and that's so helpful ❤❤

Wonderful recap! Loved seeing your yarn choices for each pattern again! Happy New Year!😊
Loove your color choices 🤩✨ especially the Camisole No. 5, put this on my list also now finally hehe
Your husband looking so thrilled to be your model 😂

a lot of knitters use the sophie scarf as a head scarf, not a neck one. Love the color you used.
Have a great appreciation for all of your knits, your approaches, and reviews. Keep knitting! I am 5'1" so I find your modifications give me perfect insight.

I followed the video tutorial on petite knit’s website to do mine!
I made that blanket from Two of Wands too! The tassels were my bane until I found a tassle twisting device. The only downfall has been my cat loving to mess with the tassles😂. I think I am going to have to cut them down to be a lot shorter.
A tassel twisting device sounds amazing for that project! It was also my bane while making it 😂
Thank you for doing this for us Amy, I know this has to be a long video to film!

Put some elastic in those blue socks so they stay up better!
I love love love your podcast. Also this is kind of weird, but I knit a sweater using Sunday and tynn silk mohair and I also felt it was so prickly and itchy. Hi Amy! Thanks for another great video 😊 Do you also alternate speckled or variegated yarns when knitting socks to avoid pooling?
All of your knitted items are lovely. I feel you knit too many oversized sweaters and the one sweater you think is too tight, I think it looks perfect! We all have are own aesthetics. Enjoy watching your vlog. Keep up the good work 😊
So now I'm wondering, what kind of engineer? Also, bravo to Nick for agreeing to model. 🙂
Your husband is so cute!!!!!! (Not coming for him lol, I just mean he seems so sweet based on my 15 second impression of him modeling your hand made sweater ❤)
How do you like the filcolana Peruvian? I've just bought the Oatmeal color for the Moby Sweater
I really like it!!
impressive work! just started knitting and I hope I will do a sweater this year. With the Oslo hats, which was your favourite yarn to use?
I really enjoyed all the hats I made with sock yarn held double. They all happened to be SW merino/nylon blends, usually 4 ply but a few were 2 ply and I liked the fabric on 3.5mm needles. I did make one with 1 strand of sock yarn and 1 strand of suri lace that I also loved!
@neknits Awesome thanks!
Hello, I know you're a left handed knitter, how do you translate the patterns to you so that it is not troublesome?
This gonna be comfort rewatch for sure ( ꈍᴗꈍ)
Is petite your go to person? I notice a lot of your patterns are from that designer. I’m rather new to knitting petite knit is really known
❤🌈👏
I knit 2 hats lmao
I have no idea why anyone tucks their sweaters in their pants or skirts. It looks silly and adds lbs to their appearance. It looks as if you just came from the restroom and didn't check to see that when they were doing their pants up they forgot to look in the mirror 😂😂😂
